I’m not bashing anyone but, I really appreciate how during this podcast Dev just let Ted talk, didn’t interrupt him or attempt to put words in his mouth. He also didn’t start the podcast off with the same old questions Ted has probably already answered hundreds of times, he switched the topics up, and I think that’s a good reason as to why this podcast resulted in being so lengthy, and also being so genuinely good. I think Nocturno is probably talking about the "Storm's of the Light Bane" alternate mix, the years don't line up with the Somberlain, also there is an alternate mix out there (I own the double CD that comes with it) idk if that's the same that he heard back then but is a different mix a bit more rawer, it's also on streaming services to check out.

Gotta respect Ted. One of the best vocalists in the genre, reinvented his vocals over and over, and he never started an annoying cult of personality around himself and his own music taste like Fenriz did for himself.
Fenriz didn't start a cult of personality. He simply speaks and acts his mind and people have found him to be unique and praiseworthy and they have started the cult themselves.

My guess is perhaps R.E.M (my very first thought honestly) and grunge. I know that bands like R.E.M. and Pearl Jam, for better or worse, considered themselves empowered on 'college radio' and the like. And I say that having heard interviews by band members on VH1 many years ago.
