I think your right, one of the most iconic 70s songs with mandolin sound, Mandolin Wind another Uncle Rod hit is on my to learn list
Thanks. Yes, I love that song, too.
Thanks again Rock & Pop .😄😁😄
No problem!
Great lesson. This is one of "my" songs and I've always played it "my way" but now I'm challenged to get off the Sinatra kick and play it right! Thank you.
Cool! Have fun with it.
After playing guitar for many years I have just bought my first Mandolin. I love this song and your video has helped me so much in learning to play it, thank you 😁
That’s great, mate! Glad I could help.
Such an awesome lesson man. This is my seventh instrument to learn. The mandolin is very fun to play. I was gonna tell you from what I hear the last chord of the intro is a Bm then goes to the verse
FYI - there’s a video of Ray Jackson actually playing the ending solo on the song. From I can tell he only played on the ending.
He’s playing it solo in his living room during an interview about his contribution. It also sounds like he’s playing more than single notes. Like he’s playing an open string for a drone effect
Cool. Do you have a link to that?
Just search “Mandolin solo on Maggie May - BBC interview”
Jacka has always said it's a couple of multi-tracked takes and edits (including the lead and melody riffs and the secret is in the strumming.
Really helpful, thank you !
Great! Awesome that I could help out.
Really enjoying the lessons and the channel thanks!
Most welcome! Thanks!
Excellent, thanks.
No worries!
Rod Stewart also did another cool mando song called Mandolin Wind...I'd like to learn that one...
Well, funny you mention that one. I’ve just recorded the video and will have it up here in a couple of weeks! The mandolin solo is really fun.
Awesome! Most people forget about that one, but it's been one of my favorites for years...
Great can not wait to try this one!
Thank you so much - very nice und good explanation :)
Thank you!!
Awesome lesson. I just picked up the mandolin a couple weeks ago, and your lessons already have me playing with confidence. Have you considered doing a lesson on Sylvan Song/Dream of the Archer by Heart?
That’s great about your playing. But don’t know that song. I’ll check it out!
Thanks. I'm picking it up after several years of guitar, but it's thanks to your videos. I've watched a few other channels, but I think yours is the best.
@@scottalderman9615 Thanks so much!
Ok I’m in. Subbed. 👍.
Thanks and welcome aboard!
Hey been enjoying your lessons. I have a song request, "That's what I like about you" by the Romantics... seems like a mandolin friendly song.
Yes, I like that song. But it’s a tough one for mando. I could give it another look. I also like Talking in Your Sleep by the Romantics.
how about another Ray Jackson Mando part. the haunting Lady Eleanor by Lindisfarne
Cool! I'll check it out!

I've been performing this on guitar in the key of C instead of D. I'm thinking about trying mandolin on it now but on C it may be not suited for mando.
I'm thinking it would be nicer sounding to detune the mando a whole step instead because there seems to be open strings sounding out. What do you think?
That could work. But it’s quite a simple song in D. Why not play it in its original key?
