I was brought up on airfields all over the place, and some of them are disused like that now. In fact I learned to ride a motorcycle on an airfield, one that was just used for emergency landings. In fact there are a few disused air bases quite close to where I live now. There are loads all over the east of England.
Used to go to that lake and airfield all the time to use my rc boat as a kid. There used to be a go karting track on the west side of the runway as well not sure if its still there havnt been back in years
What a great video, I'm addicted to watching your blogs, much better than the crap on TV Keep going mate. Got myself a 390 couple of weeks ago as second bike for great price as a pre reg and your vids will help me with mods.
Awesome stuff David, am glad you are finding them helpful. The exhaust fitting video wasn't 100% correct, the bits do align, I was just installing it incorrectly lol. I've gotten rid of my TV package now, I just watch UA-cam videos and Netflix/Prime, can't stand most of the stuff on TV.
I have another abandoned airfield video coming soon, am hoping to make a series of them, no idea why I find them so interesting but hopefully have some drone action from future visits! :-) Haha, aye I guess so! :-) Thanks CT :-)
Beautiful country side! Watched this as I ate my lunch.👍 It's a good thing they did fence off the runway. It's a piece of history and if it hadn't drivers would for sure use that as a drag strip. I wouldn't attempt that with a bike though with all that moss. It would be very slick. Maybe a dirt bike would do fine. Excellent vid man! Thanks for the great views while I eat my lunch!👍
Aye, I hope it doesn't get redeveloped into houses or a business park. Yeah, very rough ground now, even in a car it would bounce all over the shop! :-) Ha, hope you enjoyed your lunch? :-)
Nice one HD 👌🏼Pity you couldn’t get on that airfield with your bike as it looked perfect for some great photos. I really like when you find all these interesting out of the way places, great stuff mate 👍🏼😃👍🏼
I need my old Mk1 MX5 on that airfield, so i can pull donuts and do some drifting practice :) There's an old airfield somewhere close to me. I may need to investigate
I think it was (IIRC) an enforced no fly zone according to the app, but can't remember, Aye, easier to get to via A3, but not as fun to explore.... the reason for riding anywhere is not to reach the destination, but to enjoy the journey and experience! :-) Thanks for watching bud :-)
Awesome, I used to have an early 1050cc Speedtriple and went down to the Triumph evening at Destination Triumph on Thursday (vid coming out tomorrow morning) and might [spoiler alert] have booked a demo which will be posted in a few days time! :-)
I used to work near there mate. I was a ranger for Surrey County Council. It was used for model aircraft flying for a number of years. Funny how you have got into drones! (Matt H)
ROAVR Unmanned Aviation hey dude. Ahh small world lol. I'm possibly going to look into doing the license for it next year as it'll make using it a bit easier
Sad this isn't public land for public access. But still a pretty place to be at either way. Ah makes me wish I could live in England for a couple years to experience more of the scenery there. The adjoining fields beside the air strip looks like a nice place to cycle or take a hike, what with how cool and pleasant the weather is at this time of the year.
Brilliant road up there mate ! Is the shop gonna sort your baffle ?? . And you wanna watch it in those bloody woods there may be an unsavory person hiding 😂👍 damn shame about accessing that airfield cos you could blast down there at high speed ! .Damn That Drone warning ⚠️ I wanted to see that 😩! .Agree on purpose Achieved! Nice one mate ! 👍👍🍺🥃👊
Kirbonion I'd suggest if it is a daily commuter bike then keep it as standard as possible for reliability. The one that I had which was very Modded and tuned would have been utterly useless as a commuter bike as proved the only time I used it for something sensible... I melted a hole in it's piston.
Any upgrades you could recommend? that doesn't effect reliability to much, My dad's been fixing and modding rxs's since they were new so I don't mind it breaking every few months.
Kirbonion your dad seems like the best person to ask regarding tuning it then. I purchased mine already professionally tuned and modded. Mine had a YZ head and barrel that was ported and skimmed, an RD125 crank and carb and a butchered RD350 exhaust
Interesting video. Reminds me of the former RAF Brunton in Northumberland where I used to drive my Dad's Cortina when I was 14! I love old airfields, so atmospheric with echos of the past. You would enjooy Bruntigthorpe in Leicestershire....bikemeet.net/index.php?topic=6134
With the warning on the drone, you may have found a secret government installation that if you filmed over head, you would have seen the hidden entrance. Hmm, I wonder if you had a helium balloon and floated it up o a tether with a 360 camera, would that violate the drone rules?
Haha, I think it was due to the proximity to the wildlife reserve. It was a green warning which I could have overridden but I don't want to be responsible for hurting any wildlife with it.

OldManTony I find them quite fascinating, kinda like modern archeology :-)

I didn't know about the gokarts, I played at the lake as a kid too, beautiful place! :-)

Enjoy your 390, they are a proper fun little bike!
Really cool airfield and also that place was apart of you heritage just not supper old. lol Great video brother.

I really enjoyed the vid. very interesting about the lake and the airfield. Thanks for taking us along. RSM8
02bigkev cheers for watching mate. I feel a bit geeky enjoying the airfield considering how run down it is but I love this sort of stuff! :-)

Haha! Yeah it was a great lunch! Cheese Bagel with an egg and spinach, a little pepper and a coffee. And a side of 4 inches of snow haha!
Ooo, you can keep the snow but the bagel and coffee sounds good!
Yeah... guess I'll have to put skis on the bike.🤔
Great motovlog Bro. I would love to visit one day. Stay safe out there MOTOFREAK...
Ahh thanks mate, the UK has some great roads, but our weather can be a bit rubbish! :D
Nice one HD 👌🏼Pity you couldn’t get on that airfield with your bike as it looked perfect for some great photos. I really like when you find all these interesting out of the way places, great stuff mate 👍🏼😃👍🏼
yeah, was kinda gutted, but was still cool to be able to get on to the airstrip still! :-) Thanks dude! :-)
I need my old Mk1 MX5 on that airfield, so i can pull donuts and do some drifting practice :)

ahh cool, be ace to see it... and yeah man donuts and rwd funz! :-)
There is an RC flying club there that's prob why no fly zone and easier access is turning off A3 just before Ripley exit.👍

I notice you have a Triumph, how do you find it? :-)
love it 675 street triple 2012 great all rounder in every way ! 🙂

it is a bit frosty for cycling now, nearly fell on my backside slipping on ice yesterday! :D
Hippo-Drones , shouldn’t be a problem on dirt fields with a mountain bike XD falling is all part of the experience there.
falling off builds character! :D

Aye, new baffle should be arriving on Monday :-) Would have been cool to have gotten it up in the air properly. :-)
Hippo-Drones Nice one on the baffle mate ! Although it does sound good 😁👍 and yea drones give me grief as well just in a different way 😂😂😂👍🍺🥃👊
Cool place to explore. Too bad you couldn't get any drone footage.
cheers dude, aye, use is quite restricted in the UK
Currently got an rxs 100, Is it worth the money to upgrade to make daily commuting better?

Very cool thanks=]. Shame no dronage
cheers mate, the next one in the series has some drone footage and is a more impressive airfield to see too! :-)

Anthony Donnelly I do need to find some more of these abandoned ones! :-)
Willing to bet that every pilot in the area knows about this as a poentisl place to come down in a forced landing :)
It does have big metal fences blocking the runway at various places along it but would be a safer place to land than woodland I imagine! :-)

.... regarding the balloon, ha, I think that would probs be ok although a little harder to transport on the bike! :D
