    I have the V Strom 800 RE but here in the USA they call it just 800. The reasons you like your bike is similar to my own. The low and medium rpm torque with the front end coming up always makes me smile and I am getting my ECU flashed soon to bring out all the torque and power I can get.

      I saw your response on Google but I don't have a device to scan the qr code at the moment so I will reply here. I have taken the stock muffler off and put a cheap slip on to replace it and I took the baffle out. It sounds great and not loud at all. Until I get the ECU done I'm afraid to do much else because it may be too lean. Also, I had to replace the rear wheel speed sensor cause the magnet broke off when I replaced the tire. I will be more careful next time. The sensor was 90 dollars.

      @@cathy5722 Not sure what the QR code thing is about?
      But ahh cool, shouldn't need a remap unless you do any airbox/airfilter mods, so you should be fine with just the silencer 🙂
      I'd heard the horror stories of broken speed sensors when removing the rear wheel... I will have to remember that when I get new tires 🙂

    I have a standard 2024 DL800, (not called RE in the USA), and absolutely love it! Put on an Ixil MXR slip-on to give it a bit more "rumble". Been considering a remap of the ECU but since there are no tuners local to me, I would have to mail the ECU to them. Not sure I like that option. Looking forward to more content on the V-Strom 800. Subscribed!

    • @HippoDrones
      @HippoDrones  24 дні тому

      Ahh thanks for the sub! 🙂
      Is weird how bikes get different names in different parts of the world... great to hear you are loving yours. I do wish I'd got a slightly fruitier exhaust, but I still love how mine is with the more stealthy can... Unless you do air filter mods, you'll possibly not see any value in a remap with the slip-on, the bikes fuel great out the box, I think it is only when adding air in that they tend to run lean.
      I hope you enjoy the future content on the channel, I have some other bikes too, so it is quite varied bike content 🙂

    I'd love to dyno all my bikes and keep the printouts tbh, it'd just be cool :) Ah classic silly goose software, not actually turning off. That's a bit annoying.
    I kinda like the bigger front wheel sometimes, on slower curvy roads I feel like I have to work a lot more and it keeps me really engaged. But definitely not as sharp for sure. That induction noise is absolutely delicious. I like the noise tbh, the Z900RS is similarish, it's not mad loud until I open it up which I really like.
    I know they're fine stock, but I think almost all new bikes "need" a tune to be the way it should have been if that makes sense. No engineer who designs a bike wants to choke the thing for emissions.

    • @HippoDrones
      @HippoDrones  25 днів тому

      Haha, this is the first bike I've had set up on the dyno... the Aprilia tune was a downloaded map so a little generic, although was for my exact setup.
      I certainly like the bigger wheel on our pothole riddled roads, but I do also miss how easy the 8S was to throw around! 😀
      I love the induction roar, and that it is only in your face when being aggressive on the throttle, where as an exhaust can be a bit much if too loud on less hoony rides.
      Definitely... switch off all the rubbish restrictions and get the fuelling so it isn't potentially damaging the engine for the sake of the environment that would be worse off if we need to replace engines more often... stupid nanny-state world!

    I thought about a remap on a bike I had a few years ago but the insurance company said no. The bike's been replaced now, so not a worry any more but intrigued to know if it had an impact on your insurance? Strange that your friend earns more from the Kindle version, given the price difference!

    • @HippoDrones
      @HippoDrones  25 днів тому +1

      The Kindle version has no moving parts being just a download, where the book needs to be printed and posted.
      My insurance is a multibike policy with all the bikes modified in some way or another and even had my V7 insured on a like for like replacement (which would have been almost impossible to actually make happen), so a bit of fuelling mods which doesn't increase the bikes power by more than 5% is not an issue.

    • @HippoDrones
      @HippoDrones  25 днів тому

      It is winter here, so no idea temp wise to be honest, not that it ever ran hot.
      It all seems smoother and more predictable on the throttle, I'll have to try some MotoGymkhana GP8's or something to see how well it throttles at very low speeds, but I am really happy with it.
      Yeah, I was not after more peak power, but did want an improvement in torque and the bottom/midrange.
