One question if you purchase an older android phone in which the life cycle for OS and Security updates has already ended will the phone automatically update to the latest OS and security update that was available for the phone?
note 10 plus user here, and I love this phone, i was handed down this phone from my father
the display is prolly the stand out feature of this phone, incredible colors and decent brightness outdoors, goes upto 1440p but ive set mine to 1080p saves some battery and i dont really notice the difference in clarity
battery is decent, it won't blow u away, (get it? cuz its a samsung lol) i get a little over 6hours screen on time on cellular, light use on a full charge, around 7 hours SoT on wifi, ive had rare days with 8 hours on wifi on full charge, i say full charge because i limit my battery to charge to 85% and the SoT i mentioned is by extrapolating it to 100%, overall the battery is really good for an almost 5 year old phone
it is a 60hz display and is stuck on android 12/oneUI 4.1 which is the only noticeable outdated part of this phone by 2024 standards
should u buy this phone? I'd recommend to spend a little extra and get the s22 plus, primarily because it gets at least 2 more years of software updates, it has the ai features and has 120hz, but if your budget doesn't allow it and want a phone with S pen, you WILL NOT be disappointed getting this phone, the pixel 7 is also a really good option too imo

Last week I've just bought a refurbished (like new condition) Prism Black 512 GB Galaxy S10+ for ~250$, after i've dropped the old one (prism white, 128 GB), and the screen cracked. I don't care about software updates, because like you said there isn't much difference between OneUI 4 and OneUI 6, except the AI features.
Amazon just landed in South Africa, hopefully we'll start getting refurbished phones

I was debating between the s21 and s21 fe but I am leaning more towards the s21 for the extra base RAM and better display. The price is pretty similar for both. On a side note I feel like the iPhone 13 would be a better choice because it starts with base storage config of 128GB instead of 64gb. Also the battery life is better with the 13 compared to the 12. Not sure if its the best price but a quick search on eBay shows that a 12 with 128GB is about $100 less than iPhone 13
I'm looking forwards to buying a Note 20 5g from eBay. Though do you know if the product is listed as brand new it could be actually refurbished? I'm not in the US so I wouldn't really be able to sue and getting the money back will take over a month due to shipping issues. If it does come perfectly I'll be very happy 😁

I got a refurb Pixel 7 Pro for like 360 USD and i love it. (Not american) It even had only 100 battery cycles and it was spotless so it's great. I had been always wary of pixels mainly due to its 3 biggest drawbacks:
Overheating, subpar connectivity modems and battery life.
While they are true, i have seen ppl for who these are real bad, but in My case it hasn't been significant. Im pleased.
Got a refurb American P7P for $350 on Amazon and it had 1 cycle and still had the Google screen wrapping on it. I'm beyond happy with it. Before that I had a P6P I also got refurbished from them and it had 500 cycles. Still had 90% health and didn't really feel degraded. They hold up well.

What about the security updates?
Definitely out of the list, the V60 is the winner. Miss LG not being in the market. If nothing else, they kept Samsung honest. Loved my Note10+ as well though. Maybe my favorite phone I've ever owned. Between it, and the Note9.

Oneplus 7t user and my phone is super snappy and the 7t pro looks much better than any phone even today because there is no notch or punch hole camera
Dang oneplus 7t gang here, this is the best phone I've ever had. It has served me extremely well in everyday use for the past 4 YEARS. The only real problem I have with it, is my battery sucks now which is to be expected after 4 years of heavy daily usage.
I'm looking at the oneplus 10t but something about the narrow design throws me off
