If I known this 3 years ago, I probably wouldn't have failed my Maya lessons in Uni. This semester I'm retaking the very lesson I failed. And needles to say right now this tutorial is immensely helping out an animation student from the other side of the world. Thank you so much.
Great explanation! Didn't know that about the naming convention. The autosave option in the preferences is another good way to increment your scene while still only working/saving in the master scene.
So how do you advise I use this, I have a main scene and I’m gradually adding other models models I’ve pre-made so I don’t have to make in the main scene. I’m making a 2-3 minute animation, and heard you say something about multiple shots

Use the referencing system described
You can have environments, lights and cameras references into a scene and even the character rig
