I really give Nick a lot of credit for regularly discussing the price differences in the Porsche range, and asking "is it worth it?". Too many car channels on UA-cam, including several from people who really should know better, always just drool over whatever luxury car they happen to be reviewing that day. And of course, common consensus is that the more expensive car is always the better car. But as Nick demonstrates over and over again, that's just not the case. Keep up these great "value-for-money?!" rants. They are a great addition to all the fanboys on UA-cam who just run through the features list in their videos. Thank you!
"Bang for the Buck" will typically always favor the lesser model of most lineups Not only are they (obviously) cheaper with same build quality/engineering/service. Same with options...example: Base 911 with say, one or two options will probably be the sweet spot for the entire Porsche line ;-)
I think most of those reviewers just drive very expensive and unattainable cars and say “this is really good! You should buy it!” As much I find Nick disgusting, he makes good realistic consumer advises.

Thank you for doing this comparison, Nick! I'm tired of reading the geezers on the Porsche forums who say that the Macan S is a pathetic offering compared to the Macan GTS even for 2022....I think this video proves them wrong.
I have been waiting forever for this video! Especially since I just ordered a Macan S last month. I dropped everything at work to watch it as soon as it was posted.
Nick brings a unique presentation to auto journalism. I like it. He’s funny, self deprecating, sincere, knowledgeable, witty, and fair. He keeps it down to earth. Well done video/presentation. I agree with Nick on all points! Had the S & loved it. Cheers/B
My wife just bought an S. We went to look at a GTS but found a beautiful, very well appointed S for much less in her favorite color (Chalk). Awesome car.... it's getting wrapped and a ceramic coating this week.
I have a 22 Macan GTS. Loaded out. Love it. My 911 on stilts. Please note that unless you have the GTS in Sport plus mode vs sport…..you haven’t dialed up the mapping to maximize the HP and Torque figures, not to mention the PDK mapping. The options standard on the GTS and the lower profile is great. You mention the exhaust….wow, it’s great. The big deal with the GTS is the chassis. I do like the S grille better…..but ordered mine in Smoke grey and it looks sinister. Thanks for an intriguing review.
I spotted that as well, when I run sport vs sport +, the GTS is far more aggressive and lively. Definitely different mapping and shift more aggressive also. Run it again using sport+, and ffs do a launch as well? Guessing this won’t happen as it doesn’t suit the narrative of ‘the S is the best’ each to their own. GTS for me, chassis and suspension setup is incredible
@@MrBeckPJ hi Peter…..you get upgrades that are not standard on the S, but some can be optioned…….but then one might as well purchase the GTS. Good question. Best
Mine (GTS) has the Chrono package and it's definitely more more aggressive when Sport+ or Chrono. From Porsche they told me if I buy all options on the S the GTS has already then S would cost more... But Europe probably totally different Market.
Loved the video! The race results did look like it could be a difference of 60hp in my book. A 10hp difference would've made the race virtually a tie, the GTS wouldn't have been able to pull away like that. I don't think Porsche is fibbing, but the peak hp number only tells part of the story, it comes down to where it's making the extra horses in the powerband and for how much of the power band it's making them. I think this is a great illustration of how a raw hp number won't necessarily equate to more performance in the real world. This video should serve as a good check for those who want a GTS just because of the hp figure. it's a lovely car but the extra hp isn't where the GTS's value is.
60hp difference between 2 otherwise equal cars is massive. Especially 40-100+ mph. Keep in mind… it’s the exact same engine and turbos in each car. Just a different state of tune or not😉. My guess is 410hp vs 430hp. Which would make feel silly paying more for the GTS branding.
Virtually the more plausible explanation to get the GTS is if you are ordering it to personalize it. That race was not a 60 HP difference for two vehicles that weigh the same and with the same engine.
You walk in knowing you are going to be ripped off. As long as you understand that there is no value for your dollar, that it is a luxury purchase that no other brand can replicate you can be happy. $600 for a painted keyfob? GTFOH!
@@cvn6555some of the options are totally superfluous and even unnecessary. Realistically, there's a reason pretty much every single macan on the market has Premium Package or Premium +. They almost all have an optioned wheel. And a good lot have things like PDLS and such. Those are options you really should get. Like honestly, the value of what you get out of Premium + is an easy box to check. But little things like oh deviated stitching or extended leather or painted this and that, useless. They're really not necessary and that's why they are options. To me, just get Premium + and a wheel option and PDLS. Those to me seem like "necessary" amenities.
Great, honest video! Amazing how many UA-camrs out there fail to cover the basic stuff people want to know, but this video gets straight to the point and tells you everything you need to know, and nothing you don’t . Great job!
You are one of my favorite car youtuber. Love the fact that you are able to speak ''normally'' and genuinely to your audience. A lot of car youtuber seems to be transitioned to a way too formal presentation or obviously trying to put a show, which loses some authenticity along the way
i have a 2022 macan gts. when i spec a s model with same options on my gts the price is the same....why would I not pick a gts. both at current prices..
Because I may want options that don't come standard with a GTS. And, I may not want some features that come standard with a GTS like PSE and have to pay extra. Different buyers have different needs and wants.
I have a lightly specced 22 macan GTS, I couldn't spec a S to how I wanted without getting "almost" as expensive. Biggest differences for me: I got the 8 way sport seats, which aren't available on the S (I don't use any lumbar or need extra thigh bolsters because I'm only average height) nor do I want the seats to hug me any tighter (they are already tight enough as is). I really was put off by the plastic trim options on the S. If there is really anything I didn't really "need" on the GTS it was the sports chrono and the coated brakes. Also, I'm very happy with the alcantera headliner, and expensive option, but one that I do not regret. I guess if I liked the wheels that came on the S, it would help the S more, but I'm sure their marketing department knows that people will pay the 3000 just to avoid those ugly wheels. Biggest complaint, being blinded by the piano black interior on the center console on bright summer days, where I live windshield tint is illegal, but I may have to risk the ticket.
Hm, i ordered Macan S my way, Sport Chrono, PSE,air suspension, leather upgrade, white gauges, heated gt steering wheel, performance oriented, $84140,and similar GTS with same options was still $13000 over... I drove both cars, and i didn't feel any significant difference... Steering is beautiful, brakes, fit and finish... I think we can see difference in last 1000 rpm...
I used to have a 95B.1 and for me the standard air ride and PTV+ and lower PASM were well worth it (we have lots of curvy roads here) - the other interior and exterior options were icing on top. I do agree if the GTS is more expensive than an S optioned the same way, the GTS badge alone isn't worth it.
Dear Nick - I got so impressed with this video of yours that I am now a subscriber of your channel. I am a super big fan of the Macan S to the extent that I have two of them - a 2017 Macan S 3.0L V6 TwinTurbo 340bhp since June 2017, and now got delivery of the 2022 Macan S 2.9L V6 375bhp in March 2022, and I so much appreciate your analysis that the GTS is just a "placebo" option that has very little difference to the Macan S that is the "sweetspot". It re-endorses my choice. A wonderful video that highlights blatantly the reality of Macan GTS. Thank you.
I went from a 2014 SQ5 to a 2018 Macan GTS. Really miss the turbo diesel push back in the Audi but the drive and handling of the Macan is second to none. Great honest videos. Love it. Thank you
@@JoyceWanjiru-ub7pq The SQ5 I had no problems with until 5 years when I had to replace an injector. The Macan GTS I have had for a year now, coolant leak, piece of trim broke and rear diff bearing replaced. Lucky all under warranty,
Thank you Nick! After two Macan S 3.0 I bought a Macan S 2.9 as tested in the video. The Macan S delivers, even on a German autobahn. I never missed the 60 hp compared to the GTS. Top speed (tach) is next to 170 mph and the car isn't nervous at all (but the passengers are). One comment: In Europe, the GTS comes with standard PSCB (coated brakes, not carbon brakes!). Replacement cost: USD 14 k for all 4 discs and pads. The standard brakes on an S come for approx. USD 2 k.
Thank you Nick! As a former Macan owner (2017 base), and having spent a lot of time in various loaners (good relationship with my dealer has had me taking lots of them on extended test drives) and (until an unfortunate race car accident caused me to cancel) as someone who had a 2022 GTS on order... I have a question for you. One thing that was immediately noticeable when comparing all of the models vs. GTS in the PREVIOUS generation (2015-2018): the PDK tuning. The S, the base, and even the Turbo, always felt "lazy" with the PDK tuning. Wanted the higher gear all the time, took its time to downshift when rolling into the pedal, etc. The GTS, by comparison, was always quick to grab a downshift, always ready to go. That in itself made the GTS feel much more spritely when driving around.... and it's what made it a "no brainer" for me to order the GTS over the S. I drove a 2018 GTS for a few days, and a 2021 Turbo for a few days - and while there was an obvious HP gap between the two (expected).... the Turbo felt lazy thanks to the PDK. Did you notice anything like this, in your comparisons of the 2023 S vs. GTS?
Absolutely excellent review. The plain sincerity was so refreshing. I was on the fence and deciding between the S and the GTS and you just helped me make my mind and helped me save $15,000. That was awesome and thank YOU!
Hi Nick, I saw you driving the Green Macan today on 95 North. I was driving my 991 Cabrio in the next lane but you exited onto the Milford Connector. Regardless, the green color looks amazing. And of course the green color of Kiwi, the fruit, and your being from NZ makes the plate “A-Kiwi” on the Green Macan priceless.
Having owned the first gen Macan S with the 3.0 and a Cayenne S with the 2.9, dropping the 2.9 in the Macan will have made a world of a difference even if it was “detuned”. Excellent review as always Nick!
I had a 2018 Macan S 3.0L and just got my 2022 S 2.9L 2 weeks ago. It is a massive upgrade. The 3L isn’t a bad engine at all but the 2.9 is a totally different animal.
I have a 2022 Macan S on order. Fully loaded with $30k+ options.. I got the S model at MSRP sticker.. they wanted like 20k over sticker for a gts. The S model with all the options was cheaper. I plan on pumping the performance up anyway with some help from Flat 6 Motorsports. It doesnt arrive until October this year.. Super excited.
Great review Nick. In the process of buying the Macan S having come to the same conclusion. Other point to note is that replacing the PSCB brakes on the GTS will be a much more costly affair when compared to the brakes on the S. Also good to know that the air suspension is excellent….have added it to the spec.
Loved this video. I ended up getting a 2023 GTS (traded in my 2018 S) because I wanted to grab a few of the performance options, air suspension, sports exhaust, etc and by the time I did, the price difference wasn't big enough to justify the increased depreciation of the highly optioned S. Both are great cars. Thankfully I got my order in before Porsche decided to increase the price for all their models without any sort of update to the Macans.
991.1 GTS vs S...no contest. The way that car sounds and goes, it's amazing. Press the "sport plus" button and let it rip. Too bad it had those weird spoke paddles for the PDK.
Nice job on pissing off some GTS fans on the Macan forum! Always love your no BS reviews. By the way, contrary to what the pinned user said about GTS being the same price as S spec'd with options, it depends on which options are chosen. If you choose options that don't come standard on GTS the price gap you mentioned remains.
Unless you want the options that are standard on the GTS. When I optioned an S up with 21" wheels, PASM, Sports Exhaust, Sports Chrono (all standard on GTS in Australia) there was very little difference in price. I also like the GTS seats and some of the styling of the GTS which adds to the value I see in the GTS. And a stock GTS should always have a higher resale price than an optioned up S (who pays for options on a second hand car?) so in my opinion it's worth the extra couple of grand even if there isn't a huge performance difference.
I configured and ordered a '23 S and have been twisting myself up thinking if I should have just paid up for the GTS instead. I'm glad I didn't after watching your video. Thanks! 😅
Hmm, when I added the options to the S that I wanted it would have cost more than the the GTS...that is why you get the GTS. Sure, could have skipped some options but in grand scheme of things it was insignificant amount of money. In the previous generation of Macan the GTS was the obvious choice.
This is a great video thanks loads. I got out of my 992 911 S last year and was considering the Macan GTS as I used to have a Macan S Diesel back in the day 2018. Your video has me reconsider and to buy thr S
I’ve got a 2019 facelift, Macan S, it’s the previous 3 litre model. Having also driven the latest 2.9 litre GTS, I think my car is more tractable in the lower rev range? Particularly noticeable in Normal-Mode! Excellent review!!
I ordered a new Macan S back in February. I couldn't justify the price difference here in the UK for a GTS. A few nice options, and I have a well specced S on order. The only problem is that coming up to August, I've still not had a build date. And TBH I don't expect one this year. Who knew all those essential car parts were all made in the Ukraine? More like Manufacturers delaying petrol / diesel cars to push EV's to lower their overall emissions to meet targets. 2 year waiting list for a 911, but you can have a Taycan within 6 months !!! Obviously EV's don't have all those electronics petrol cars need !!
As an S owner, I think you need to go all the way with the Macan. GTS, air suspension, sport exhaust. Otherwise there are cheaper and better options out there. Just my 2 cents. I've been underwhelmed by the car.
what don't you like about your S? I drove one a while back and I thought it was a nice handling compact that seemed well put together...but I have never lived with one.
@@commanderrussels2612 I enjoyed my test drives (hence why I bought it), but yes after living with it I am less than thrilled. At 4200 lbs it's heavy. Acceleration is adequate but not exciting. Handling is good, but not as good as a sedan. Comfort is OK, but below other offerings. Cold start sound amazing, but you don't hear much in the car, even in sport mode. It tries to do a lot of things, and is compromised because of it. Also, not a fan of the squealing brakes. It's one thing for a track car, but in a "practical" SUV it gets really tiresome. X3 M40i doesn't have the handling, but is a more satisfying vehicle. Again, haven't owned a $100k MSRP Macan, only a measly $75k version. :)
Great video. I have a 2022 S and added 20k in options. Still more options for the money than you can get with a GTS (-9k to be exact) and with my spec you can not tell it’s not a GTS. I love my S
Did that with my 2017 S. Took GTS money and turned it into options…..which, in terms of Porsches cost, out-accelerate a Saturn V. When I got done, I had very ( to me ) desirable suspension and exhaust options and was still about 10K back of the GTS. The exhaust option was pretty funny. I asked the sales rep what an “exhaust package” was….. In true Porsche fashion he replied….”about 3 grand.” Oh…..ok…..yeh, I’ll take it…..((((: It has been a phenomenal car / SUV. Of course, I’m taking it in for a new transfer case…….incredibly common problem……and covered by Porsche. Buying a matching 911 Carrera 4 as soon as the allocation comes through……. Incredible cars……
As the owner of a '22 Macan S, if you really want to get Macan owners upset, remind them that Porsche only makes two actual, proper sports cars--- and both have their engines somewhere behind the driver.
@@mileswang1200 The "real" proper Porsches have their flaws as well. The 911 has the engine in the wrong location and the 718 has inferior 4-wheel strut based suspension.
@@z06van21 I've been dreaming about those cars since I was a kid. So yeah, sure they're not perfect. No one is born perfect. But the idea that Porsche 911 takes the imperfections and works hard for years and decades to be one of the best sports cars in the world...just sold me.
@@z06van21I may sound biased as I’m a Porsche fanatic, but even though the 911 may have the engine in the wrong place, Porsche has invested into making it handle even better iteration after iteration, making it a solidly joyful driver’s car of any generation. Thanks for all the information you share with us! My Macan S is coming this month and I took your advice against my dealer's recommendation for a GTS. The light colour interior looks mega though, I kinda regret going for the safe black interior.
@@robrowman6156 I have mostly dark interiors on my cars haha. I got a beige CPO Panamera for cheap this year, the car market is pretty slow here in China for 2023.
Yeah, I have always been dubious of the value, and the "rigid" options glued to the vehicle. I would rather just build my S and call it a day. Know that resale is likely higher on the GTS, though, given it's "rarity". And if someone wants a GTS, they want a GTS.
in fairness, in the 0-60 test, the S probably was trailing by more than 1 mph, by the looks of the analog speedos, about 4mph. Still basically nothing in it. But the refresh cycles on the digital speedos helped out the S, (the S had just refreshed the speed, the GTS had not).
According to the Nick's video it was 4 or 5 mph, which is significnt. This was also demonstrated during the dragrace - full car lenght till 60 mph is a lot and cannot be achieved with only 10-20hp difference as mentined by Nick. And no, I do not own any GTS - only 987.2 base Cayman and 944 turbo :) Interesting that Nick does not even notice handling differences, even though if nothing else, the GTS is on 21'' wheels vs 20'' on S. Seems that Nick simply does not like some GTS models. But I agree with him, that best value GTS models are 718, Panamera and Cayenne.
I am looking to order a GTS and the main reasons I am buying the GTS over the S are when I option the S to the GTS spec there is not much difference in price. The main reason though is that when you option an S all that extra cost is lost in resale value. This is not the case with the GTS. They hold their resale value because the options are always part of the GTS package. End of story. Resale is the key and that is why I am buying the GTS over an S.
Having received my blue Macan S 4 months ago, I have been wondering if I should have spent more for the GTS engine. I love everything about my S with painted exterior package that gives me more blue than GTS! My only complaint is normal mode changes gears way to low, so I just drive in sport mostly and sport plus occasionally. Did you try both cars in sport plus to see if much difference? Wonderful video for your viewers-honesty over hype always appreciated.
Hey! I drove a Macan S. In normal/comfort, there is quite a big amount of noticeable lag off the line. Sport does help mitigate some of it. The handling was really comfortable. Wasn't really different from the Macan Turbo I tried.
Nick, I throughly enjoy watching your car videos, I find your presentation both informative, entertaining and credible. Please don't let the nay-sayers get to you, keep up your videos and chats. Maybe time for an update on your 993? Keep the flag flying.........
Thanks for your honest review. It’s refreshing to find a UA-camr that doesn’t just parrot manufacture marketing material. I love Porsche products, but even I can’t stand the way they ‘nickel & dime’ their customers over options that should be standard in vehicles in this price range. A luxury brand acting like an entry level brand is never a good look.
Thanks for another great video, Nick. My wife drives a 2017 Base Macan. We have had no problems of any kind. However, the caliper covers on the front are flat black and the rears are gloss black. I really appreciate the comparisons but hoped you’d include a comparison list of which I could take a screen shot. I would also like your rating on the room in the back seat of cars for tall people.
Look at the torque figures for the S and GTS and you'll see why there's very little difference in pickup. On the older Gen 1 cars, it made sense to upgrade from the GTS to the Turbo Performance as the power and torque increase were worth it, but I agree here and would pick the S out of the two.
When I later purchase a totally new and custom Porsche all my own, I'll add all the features I want. As for now, buying a pre-owned, I just need the necessary things to me. To me, the base model is perfectly suitable to 80-90% of buyers. Seriously, the base is underrated. They're fantastic. The only things for me that are hard selling points are Premium Package+, at least a 19" wheel option, PDLS, and Dolomite Silver. Other things can come and go.
Hi Nick. I want to share something with you. I don't know why, but when I watch your videos, I fall asleep the best. I do not know why. Maybe because of the sound of Porsche engines. Or because of your voice. (We both know it's because of your angelic voice).
Surprised at how this one shakes out. Your conclusion that there must not be as much of a HP difference between them as Porsche claims would be quite the scandal if true. Was looking at the specs on Porsche’s website and noticed that while the HP delta is significant (59 ponies), there is only 22 lb-ft of torque differentiating the GTS, so that’s probably why your butt dynos did not sense a huge difference. Still surprised that you and the GTS owner agreed there was NO difference though. From the specs, it also appears the GTS has a 50lb higher curb weight. Maybe the power curve on the “de-tuned” S is just really optimized and takes perfect advantage of the scenarios you tested. Don’t know! Either way, amazing effort put into these videos, and the Easter egg on the configurator was hilarious.
great video, your videos are always spot on, you helped me get my first Audi A3 a few years ago and now im looking for an SUV and was thinking on a macan! thanks
Good candid review as always. Looking to buy a Macan S when and if I fall out of love with my X3. Always fun to watch your videos. The Macan on blocks in the configurator was priceless :)
Acceleration at low speed is mostly determined by torque output. Power and gearing determine top speed. So without reading the specs I would guess the cars have similar torque output but the GTS does indeed have higher power. By way of example, a 2000 Audi RS4 has around 45% more power than a 2000 S4 but only 10% more torque. The RS4 only knocks around half a second (10%) off the 0-60 time.
I appreciate the review, but I don't get it since it's too vague. Yes, S and GTS are very close in performance, but they are also very close price wise, if you spec the S to have all the GTS trims. In this case, just go for the GTS. At the same time, you can spec the S to be very different from the GTS. Then go for the S. Separately, more HP does not show nearly as much from 0-60, then it shows at higher speeds and that rolling race is as accurate as the Porsche marketing department :D Handling at low speed almost-straight road, of course will be hard to distinguish as well. All in all, I agree they are really close, but at the same time, the review does not do a brilliant job at showcasing that very accurately :/
Great video Nick. I have a 2016 Macan S and recently decided to trade in for a new one (the cost of out of warranty replacements are adding up). I currently live in Taiwan where we have a 10% luxury tax after a certain selling price. Given the new price adjustment of Macan S, it crossed that threshold this year unfortunately. After selecting the same options that came with the GTS, the price difference is a bit less than USD 10,000. Also, Macan S is a more popular model, so the wait will be longer wait than the GTS. Needless to say I went with the GTS model. I totally agree with your review and that 90% of the time, a Macan S is more than adequate and pure joy for urban/suburban outings and some weekend long distance drive. I guess my point is that the perceived and actual difference between these two models sometimes come down to the geographic location and allocation. In fact, the price of a Macan base model in Taiwan is comparable to the Macan S in the US.
Nick, great video. You'll NEVER shut down those who choose to let their quest for the "biggest, bestest, fastest, costliest, mostest options" run away with their emotions and pocketbook. For some, it is akin to someone being completely obsessed with buying a set of speakers that are "....SO good, the human ear can't hear the full range of sound they put out..." It's a completely personal decision that frankly has more to do with ego than with the cars...if someone thinks they are an Einstein for buying a GTS, wonderful. Both cars are equally great-- depending on one's priorities and desires.
I've driven both and the s doesn't feel like a real Porsche, everything from the exhaust, to the transmission tuning, to the engine tuning, The bigger brakes, better interior, and air suspension. On the used market the gts is a no brained
We’ve got a GTS on order purely for the fact that once we’d specced the S, it was the price of the GTS but the GTS has the options standard. (Also the GTS holds the value more) Also did you use the sports response button in the drags?
Im in EXACTLY the same situation as you. I specc'd out the S jut the way I want it, and it was only 2k less than the GTS, hence, I went with the GTS for the extra power and ultimately, resale value which it will always hold above the S.
Hi Nick ! If you have option to buy a Carrera GTS with Carrera S rims or Cayenne turbo GT which one do you choose? Even better with the colors for both cars 😬, thanks
think of your friends and family, if you tell them you bought the best one, its a short great conversation. But if you buy the inferior version and then feel you have to drone on for 15 minutes explaining why, as this video shows, its a real drainer
The funny thing about this "sweet spot" nonsense is that the GTS indeed WAS the sweet spot back when there was a Turbo in the lineup. It was the trim that gave you the same 2.9 V6 engine (albeit slightly detuned) but was an overall better value. The Macan Turbo doesn't exist anymore and was basically REPLACED the GTS as the most expensive model that people with tons of extra $ will want to buy while the Macan S replaced the GTS as the model that also gets the slightly detuned 2.9 V6 for less $. Translation: The 2022 GTS is the new Macan Turbo while the 2022 Macan S is what the Macan GTS used to be. Macan S is the new sweet spot.
I love how you make realistic reviews without bulshit or calling others bullshit. I had to downgrade from an S to the base Macan because of the recent price increase. Still waiting for the car. Hope it doesn’t disappoint.
It won’t. I drove the base Macan and it’s by no means weak. Most people don’t drag race and the base Macan is plenty of power to overtake on the motorway
It's interesting to note that if you pause the side-by-side instrument dial comparison the GTS is around 5 miles per hour ahead of the S most of the time.
Nick Murray: speaking the truth since... whenever (e.g. “I wouldn’t want it any stiffer”) but maybe one aspect to consider for a buyer would be if S and GTS retain value differently which could influence the choice. Myself, I wouldn’t know as I consider the Macan a ladies car, and they should want it stiffer.
My '21 GTS with a stage 2 tune, exhaust, CAI, Dwnpipes, and lowered suspension smokes the Durango SRT and TRX beast. It can easily gap most high performance sedans as well. It's a total monster. Stock though - it leaves a lot to be desired.

They are 100% wrong
I have a 2025 Macan S on the way
I have been waiting forever for this video!
Cheers/B
Why don't you marry him! Lol
Aren't the chassis the same between the two models? Pretty sure they are...
@@CraigK80 - Obviously you want the GTS, he's just saying that if money's an issue, buy the S as the performance gain with the GTS is negligible.
He didn't do sport plus mode on gts. Had same Mode... wrong test
"Welcome to Porsche, please leave your wallet at the door"
You walk in knowing you are going to be ripped off. As long as you understand that there is no value for your dollar, that it is a luxury purchase that no other brand can replicate you can be happy. $600 for a painted keyfob? GTFOH!
Just don’t walk thru the door!
@@cvn6555 - Yep. Their rapey prices are idiotic. I feel embarrassed for them sometimes.
Gladly
I enjoy Nick’s video, down to earth content and detailed comparison between models 👍
A lot of car youtuber seems to be transitioned to a way too formal presentation or obviously trying to put a show, which loses some authenticity along the way
I just test drove them back to back and noticed the same thing. I mentioned it to the salesman and he couldn't really defend it. Lol.
lmao hilarious
One of the best and reasonable Macan S vs. GTS review I ve watched.
Thanks for doing a straight ahead and honest review. Very useful for me! Great job. Love all your videos.
i have a 2022 macan gts. when i spec a s model with same options on my gts the price is the same....why would I not pick a gts. both at current prices..
This is true, sometimes it is well worth getting the GTS based on price if you are getting a bunch of options! ❤
Nick's comment of the year "I wouldn't want it any stiffer". Great video mate 👌👊
That's what she said!
Love it. Thank you
Great one sir, interns of maintainability which one is better
@@JoyceWanjiru-ub7pq The SQ5 I had no problems with until 5 years when I had to replace an injector. The Macan GTS I have had for a year now, coolant leak, piece of trim broke and rear diff bearing replaced. Lucky all under warranty,
@@BirdcontrolaustraliaAu I love these 2 cars but I can't stomach reliability issues. Thanks alot for the info.... maybe I should go with SQ5
USD 2 k.
I wish there were more honest comparison video reviews like this. Excellent stuff.
GTS?
I guess I gotta drive a GTs because the 16 turbo I drove was slow to me
Absolutely excellent review. The plain sincerity was so refreshing. I was on the fence and deciding between the S and the GTS and you just helped me make my mind and helped me save $15,000. That was awesome and thank YOU!
You’re scratching the surface of genuine automotive journalism and consumer advice with your inimitable charm. Terrific video.
This the review I was waiting for! Collecting my Macan S tomorrow after 8 months since putting the order. Thanks Nick
I have the air suspension on my Turbo Cayenne, and Nick is absolutely right, it's worth it. Get it. I love it.
Cool so you’re going to spec a Macan S to be more like a GTS!
@@JCizzleSoCal jip the macan s is better value in the long run....also paying extra for black trims seems cost ineffective.
Thank you soo much for this video ! After a config torture, tomorrow I will sign for the S.
After watching this Im glad to have chosen the S. I have a 2022 with premium +, sport chrono and 18 way seats
Watched video even though no interest in Macan . Just love Nick videos.

Other reviewers promoting the GTS? like fake news lying to us. thanks for your honest review.
@@commanderrussels2612
I enjoyed my test drives (hence why I bought it), but yes after living with it I am less than thrilled.
Finally, the video I had much awaited for. Thanks Nick!
After I watched you video Nick, I am glad I ordered the Macan S 😉
Was waiting for this video as well since I just ordered a Macan S last month
Great video. I have a 2022 S and added 20k in options. Still more options for the money than you can get with a GTS (-9k to be exact) and with my spec you can not tell it’s not a GTS. I love my S
Did that with my 2017 S. Took GTS money and turned it into options…..which, in terms of Porsches cost, out-accelerate a Saturn V.
When I got done, I had very ( to me ) desirable suspension and exhaust options and was still about 10K back of the GTS.
The exhaust option was pretty funny. I asked the sales rep what an “exhaust package” was…..
In true Porsche fashion he replied….”about 3 grand.”
Oh…..ok…..yeh, I’ll take it…..((((:
It has been a phenomenal car / SUV.
Of course, I’m taking it in for a new transfer case…….incredibly common problem……and covered by Porsche.
Buying a matching 911 Carrera 4 as soon as the allocation comes through…….
Incredible cars……
Two cars I won’t buy but you still make the comparison fun to watch!
Always nice to see you !
As the owner of a '22 Macan S, if you really want to get Macan owners upset, remind them that Porsche only makes two actual, proper sports cars--- and both have their engines somewhere behind the driver.
But we, Macan owners, all dreams about having real proper Porsches, if we haven’t got one yet. And we all know that we’ll get them, one day…
@@mileswang1200 The "real" proper Porsches have their flaws as well.
Great review Nick. You sold me on choosing the “S” over the “GTS” model! Well done!
My cousin just got a new white base Macan (wifes car) and says its the best car he's bought , really likes it . Having ordered it last year he said could have sold it easy . Says it's plenty fast enough for him and especially his wife .
They should never drive an S or GTS Macan. After driving those the base model feels pokey.
Thanks, Nick. Been sleuthing down this comparison myself and wondering if the S isn't just under-reported. Much appreciated

Thanks for all the information you share with us! My Macan S is coming this month and I took your advice against my dealer's recommendation for a GTS. The light colour interior looks mega though, I kinda regret going for the safe black interior.
Black interior all day. With a black car and black rims and black windows abs black accents 🖤
@@robrowman6156 I have mostly dark interiors on my cars haha. I got a beige CPO Panamera for cheap this year, the car market is pretty slow here in China for 2023.
Nick, X3M vs Macan S which one to choose
Still not worth paying an additional $10-15 grand for the GTS for most folks
Just can't wait to see the 911 comparison of the S and GTS... looking forward to it!!!!!! Thanks for the excellent video!
Good to see you back in the saddle with a new typical outstanding video. Thank you.
I always enjoy the juxtaposition of the classical music intro followed by Nick Murray in a ridiculous t-shirt. lol
And for the 60hp Moore..

Just got my 2022 macan s and it is just such a great car.
I have the lowly 2018 s 😊. Out of warranty, the accessport bumps me to gts performance. Love it.
Another nick Murray classic
Look at the torque figures for the S and GTS and you'll see why there's very little difference in pickup. On the older Gen 1 cars, it made sense to upgrade from the GTS to the Turbo Performance as the power and torque increase were worth it, but I agree here and would pick the S out of the two.
Do you have any opinions/insights on the Burmester sound system vs the standard Bose?
When I later purchase a totally new and custom Porsche all my own, I'll add all the features I want. As for now, buying a pre-owned, I just need the necessary things to me. To me, the base model is perfectly suitable to 80-90% of buyers. Seriously, the base is underrated. They're fantastic. The only things for me that are hard selling points are Premium Package+, at least a 19" wheel option, PDLS, and Dolomite Silver. Other things can come and go.
Nice video Nick. Was deciding between a Macan S and Macan GTS and your video popped up!
Hi Nick. I want to share something with you. I don't know why, but when I watch your videos, I fall asleep the best. I do not know why. Maybe because of the sound of Porsche engines. Or because of your voice. (We both know it's because of your angelic voice).

I’ve got an S on order ( couldn’t afford the GTS) this video makes me feel a lot better !Thanks Nick
Totally agree with you Nick. I would get the S with additions and be happy. 👌👏
Separately, more HP does not show nearly as much from 0-60, then it shows at higher speeds and that rolling race is as accurate as the Porsche marketing department :D
Handling at low speed almost-straight road, of course will be hard to distinguish as well.
All in all, I agree they are really close, but at the same time, the review does not do a brilliant job at showcasing that very accurately :/
Excellent review and valuable to watch.
Hahahahaha
I've driven both and the s doesn't feel like a real Porsche, everything from the exhaust, to the transmission tuning, to the engine tuning, The bigger brakes, better interior, and air suspension. On the used market the gts is a no brained
We’ve got a GTS on order purely for the fact that once we’d specced the S, it was the price of the GTS but the GTS has the options standard. (Also the GTS holds the value more)
Also did you use the sports response button in the drags?
Im in EXACTLY the same situation as you. I specc'd out the S jut the way I want it, and it was only 2k less than the GTS, hence, I went with the GTS for the extra power and ultimately, resale value which it will always hold above the S.
@@turbokid99 it’s a no brainier if your willing to wait.
Sport Response doesn't hardly do anything but downshift for you...it provides zero extra power over mashing the gas and waiting for the shift.
Hi Nick ! If you have option to buy a Carrera GTS with Carrera S rims or Cayenne turbo GT which one do you choose? Even better with the colors for both cars 😬, thanks
I don't understand why anyone would want the Cayenne Turbo GT, so I am going with Carrera GTS all the way.
think of your friends and family, if you tell them you bought the best one, its a short great conversation.
Hola que tal, excelente comparacion. Pero que opinan en habilidad y mejor sensación entre MS y MT 2023 en camino con curvas . Cual me recomendarían ?
The other 400 youtubers are told to give a good review of the GTS, otherwise they won't be given any more cars to review
Love your channel Nick!
I love this candid car test!!
With 911 997 and 991 GTS was worth only because it gave wider body for RWD cars than Carrera S got.
Are the gear ratios the same for both? Not that I am in the market but both seem amazing!
My '21 GTS with a stage 2 tune, exhaust, CAI, Dwnpipes, and lowered suspension smokes the Durango SRT and TRX beast. It can easily gap most high performance sedans as well. It's a total monster. Stock though - it leaves a lot to be desired.
