With all the mods the Unicender will be my choice of mechanical friction devices when I graduate from the Blake's hitch. I like how compact it is and that lock off feature. Great job on explaining the mods.
Great video, thanks for showing the before, during, and after of the mods. The improvements definitely address the aspects of the Unicender that I had concerns about (like holding the rope against metal edges to descend). It looks great once you got finished with it. I'm surprised that Rock Exotica hasn't taken notice and developed an improved model yet. Somebody over there is asleep at the wheel... or in a tree. lol Thanks for sharing this!
I had to laugh at you grabbing for that rope in the beginning, and I do love the mods you performed on the Uni, but I still prefer the rope runner after seeing what you had to do to this mech, You did a great job here showing us your advancements, bravo my friend. And I’d like to hear your opinion about the unicender after 1 year of having it, God bless.
Poplar Mechanic yo, guess what bro, my rope runner suffered some stress fractures on the middle side plate, I called treestuff and they are sending me a replacement, I’m pretty sure you always do inspect, but please never neglect to inspect your gear before each climb
@@dqmc07 that's scary man, thanks for letting me know, I always do a quick inspection then a thorough one when I get time, I've never heard of that happening, must be a product defect.

When using unicender in double rope i found that clamping both top and bottom of unicender together works pretty smooth even,in single line you do really fly I only use the rappel mode In single line, I'm looking forward to installing the drum and rope capture soon great vid, had my unicender for like almost 2 months now

@@PoplarMechanic Thank you for your answer. I'm currently waiting for a shipment with a drum and an L braking plate. I will be installing them on my UNI.🖐️
I have the Reon Rounds bearing rope tender. Just wondering where you got the side plate and pulley. I know it is from a RopeRunner but can you just order the parts, pulley and plate and if so from where. I like Reon's pulley but it a very small pulley.
Just got the unicender the other day. Tried to order the mod kit but apparently richards store is closed for now. Wish I knew of soneone else that sold a similar kit.

Nice video brother, I'm new to the channel! hey, let me ask you this... between the akimbo, roperunner and the unicender... which one overall is the best? I want to buy for the first time a mechanical device but don't know really witch one... what I've seen so far, I'm liking the uni better than all of them, just for the reason that easy to mount on midline but what do you say and why buddy? thanks!
The akimbo is just as easy to add midline, Infact even quicker. In my opinion the akimbo is best. The uni kinda takes more getting used to than the other devices. The rope runner was my previous favorite, They are similar but I'll have to give it to the akimbo for ease of putting on the rope and no tools to adjust plus it's more compact. So hope that helps! Welcome to the channel and climb safe. 👊
are you shure it's a good system ?? 350e . the rope capture , 100e , the drum ??? i don't know , perhaps 60e , total 510e . do you feel it smoothy to move in tree ? i don't think so
Glad I choose the Akimbo. I can't understand what the "lock off" feature does for ya? I mean your locking it off in the open position manually but it lock's itself off in normal use?
I think it's more for when your moving alot, so you can quickly repel, it's not a deal breaker the main thing is ir protects from wear on the device. I probably will use the uni again but I dont think it will be my favorite.
I drilled into the axel/bushing with a bit then I used my thread repair kit to make threads. Then just tightened it up. You may want to use a center punch before you drill. Or a drill press.
I've been climbing for a "few years" and I finally got a Unicender. Been watching videos on mods and technique(Richard's of course) and just watched your video. Well done on the mods and the video. I haven't ordered the Drum yet, but looks like it's a "must have" mod. Your pulley mod looks really good, well done on that. 👍 Are you still using it and if so do you have anymore feedback??? Thanks for taking the time to post up the video. Keep yourself safe! 😎👊❤️🌲 Randy
Honestly I havnt used the uni that much just because I'm really giving the akimbo a run for its money. Lots of people use it and like it, Theres also a skateboard bearing mod for it to, you could always take it to a machine shop and get something custom and I would reccomend that. something like travors uni. Hope that helps sorry I couldn't shine more light on the use end of it , good luck and stay healthy 👊

O sorry I used a bolt, I used a tap and die set to make threads . So choose any bolt long enough to go through the side of the uni and into the pulley, If you dont have a way to make threads just drill a hole and use the bolt to make threads.
To be honest not really. I was gonna give it an honest try but then my akimbo came. I will give it a try in the future when I get bored, Alot of people like it though, For a first device i would probably recommend something else.
