Every time that I listen to Maura sing this I cry like a baby. Nothing else can make me cry. I am dying of cancer stage 4 and am trying to bring resolution to the close of my life. Lorraine Spence broke my heart but there is so much more. Don't wait folks until death is looking at you to bring peace into your life.
+Judith Volborth Thank you for sharing life's most precious lesson. I pray you managed to find your resolution, and if you're still with us, God Speed, Judith.
Reading this and listening to this song today made me cry. You wrote this a long time ago . I dont know if this journey has ended and another begun for you or not, but thankyou for the message within your words. They mean so much
The music buissness today is pure rubbish. Listening to this rendition is in my opinion what music is all about beautiful meaning full lyrics sang with pure pure emotion.A master piece .RESPECT
Nigel Walton the value of music is subjective for each listener, music cant be rated from a functionalist perspective like you would an automobile, can openet, etc
humm, she just placed that on canvas right before our ears! Took my breath away & it wasn't until almost to its end that I noticed tears streaming down the sides of my face. I don't think I've heard something this beautiful in years. P.S. someone posted that Maura needs to return to Ireland and "they" need her. Well, Maura's a perfect example of what (and who) made America great, so we'll keep her!
"The Water Is Wide" (also called "O Waly, Waly" or simply "Waly, Waly") is a folk song of Scottish origin. It remains popular in the 21st century. Cecil Sharp published the song in Folk Songs From Somerset (1906).

Saw her sing this in Cambridge with Carly Simon, wow
been a fan since early 1990's when I'd hear her on Fiona Richey's Shamrock Shoe on NPR

Is it true the Angels speak Gaelic? Maura proves they do.
I never thought that Judith Durham would ever be equalled singing this one, but now I'm not so sure...
