After at least one month in over 70 countries and over 500 islands, I chose Samui as my base of operations for Covid and ended up buying a place there. We now use Samui as an unbelievable travel base for travel in the east and Bucerias, Mexico for the western world base. We have spent most of the last 8 months travelling SE Asia also and have been to 10/11 SE Asia countries (still no Papua New Guinea). We stayed for 5 days in Fisherman's Village at the Peace Resort the last week of November 2022. Loved the quiet community and the great selection of restaurants, market food and beach life. We hired a private driver for a day trip around the island which was great to see. We also spent an evening on Chawenga Beach Road at some of the pubs. Fun time to have a few drinks and enjoy some music. Great trip...would love to go back.

Another great video-- you guys do a great job mixing images with just enough commentary! You're both just so darn engaging too! So we (my wife and I) were in Koh Samui last summer and it was sadly our least favorite place we went in Thailand. We did LOVE the Elephant sanctuary we went to-- but the beaches were a little MEH. The Tourists- mostly Germans and Australians just were SMOKING everywhere and not wearing masks (which were required) and that in turn really seemed to turn off the near by locals who just assumed all the foreigners act the same (I can't blame them) so they weren't nearly as friendly and nice as other Thai locals in other locales. But I have to say- your video really makes me want to give it another try. Thanks!

Best advice about bargaining in Thailand is - just know that 10 Baht means so much more for them than the 0.29 USD means to us.. Hoping to make our first trip to Thailand soon - just enjoying our anniversary at a lovely resort - and then spending two days in Bangkok. But this area of Thailand you are visiting looks like a great place to plan for our future visits.
I'm really enjoying your videos. You come across as the most "genuine" and informative travel couple on YT, and I've seen a lot. Vietnam and Thailand were on my list, but I just can't take the heat. I chose Ecuador just over a year ago, and it looks like I lucked out. I've been to the Gallapagos and will visit the Amazon soon. Maybe someday I'll visit the hotter places like Thailand, but Cuenca fits me like a glove. The 8,600' elevation keeps the Temps at 55-75 most of the time. If I head south to the beaches, it goes up into the 80's+ Thanks, and stay safe!❤

This was one of the coolest airports we've ever seen and something I've never seen before. Then to make it even cooler, in the departure area they have a courtesy area where they have free coffee, juice, bottled water, and a variety of snacks - why doesn't every airport offer that? 😜😜 Can't wait to see you both....so soon 😍

It's hard to admit it but for shoes in the sand, road and possible monsoons... Look at crocs. I used to hate them as much as anyone but they are so comfy anf practical for all this stuff... They last for years too. Great video, thanks for making it!

Great, guys. I loved your introductory drone clips. One particular scene when Brian held up the glass of beer reminded me so much of a particular beach on St. Lucia. It's really enjoyable. We've just booked a 14-day cruise from Singapore and plan to spend another two weeks in some countries, including Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand and Malaysia.

Guys, I’m jealous of course. My wife and I were in Samui last November and loved it. There is a cool cocktail place that opens at 5pm captain Tao. It’s an old kombi van that the roof opens and becomes a bar. It’s next door to green light cafe. The lovely lady making the drinks is Tan, say hello from Canadian Sharon and Aussie Rod. We stayed in the B1 apartments adjacent to the bar, right on the beach. Enjoy your time. We’re going back for a month in mid July.

We will be in Thailand for a month in February 2024 and just discovered your videos. Your content is some of the best travel vlogging we've found. One question we are hoping you can answer about the Fisherman's Village, Bangrak, and Bophut areas of Ko Sumai ... is proximity to the airport an issue? Just wondering about noise and the potentially jarring experience of low-flying planes overhead. We were thinking we needed to find beaches and accommodations that put us further from the runway but maybe that's not a big deal? Thanks for any perspective you can share about that. Cheers!

I didn’t learn how to use flip-flops till I was well into my 40s. You have to squeeze your toes every step on purpose. Practice that with your left and right foot over and over slowly. It will seem tedious and ridiculous but your body will soon take over and do it automatically. It’s worth the work and much easier than learning piano or wearing Jesus sandals. or the retiree sandals. You got this! Thanks for all of your videos. Our favorite is Portugal so far also.

Hi Guys, It looks like you are both enjoying Koh Samui. I was there in 1996 for two weeks and stayed at a resort on Chaweng Beach. At the time, it wasn't as built up as it is now. You will find it busier than where you are staying on Chaweng Beach and Lamai Beach. Nice shirt, by the way!
Ha Ha, I laughed about your comment about flip flops, because I thought I was the only one that cannot wear flip flops. I have the same issues! Leather sandles work well.

That Chang is so perfect for drinking like that. It's something I miss when I'm not in Thailand. I'm flying over in two weeks, though not to Samui. I'm inspired to go there! Love the tours through southeast Asia. Would love to go. I don't want to be rude so I hope you don't take this the wrong way but to get rid of the lights flickering in your videos you need to adjust the framerate of your camera. I think Asia has a 50Hz frequency to their power so a 25, 50 or 100 frames per second should help. I think.
Not rude at all, John. I have tried to shoot at a higher framerate but it doesn't seem to help as much as we would like. The input is very much appreciated. We are still trying to master this film, editing, and UA-cam thing!! 😆 Cheers!!🍻

That is so exciting!! You do not need a GoPro to start your channel. We use one because of its size and the fact we have limited space in our bags. We also find it easier to use when out shooting video in large crowds or around water, but we have used our phones in some situations as well. I hated flip flops for the longest time, then I finally bought a good pair from Reef then another from Crocs. Life changing. I did have to learn to walk in them and and now I live in flip flops….except in the sand, just go barefoot!

It's hard to admit it but for shoes in the sand, road and possible monsoons... Look at crocs. I used to hate them as much as anyone but they are so comfy anf practical for all this stuff... They last for years too. Great video, thanks for making it!

We've just booked a 14-day cruise from Singapore and plan to spend another two weeks in some countries, including Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand and Malaysia.

Guys, I’m jealous of course. My wife and I were in Samui last November and loved it. There is a cool cocktail place that opens at 5pm captain Tao. It’s an old kombi van that the roof opens and becomes a bar. It’s next door to green light cafe. The lovely lady making the drinks is Tan, say hello from Canadian Sharon and Aussie Rod. We stayed in the B1 apartments adjacent to the bar, right on the beach. Enjoy your time. We’re going back for a month in mid July.

We will be in Thailand for a month in February 2024 and just discovered your videos. Your content is some of the best travel vlogging we've found. One question we are hoping you can answer about the Fisherman's Village, Bangrak, and Bophut areas of Ko Sumai ... is proximity to the airport an issue? Just wondering about noise and the potentially jarring experience of low-flying planes overhead. We were thinking we needed to find beaches and accommodations that put us further from the runway but maybe that's not a big deal? Thanks for any perspective you can share about that. Cheers!
The airport won't be a problem anywhere you stay on the island. Fisherman's bay is close but far enough away where there isn't any airport traffic to bother you. Thank you for the kind words and safe travels!!!

I didn’t learn how to use flip-flops till I was well into my 40s. You have to squeeze your toes every step on purpose. Practice that with your left and right foot over and over slowly. It will seem tedious and ridiculous but your body will soon take over and do it automatically. It’s worth the work and much easier than learning piano or wearing Jesus sandals. or the retiree sandals. You got this! Thanks for all of your videos. Our favorite is Portugal so far also.

It looks like you are both enjoying Koh Samui. I was there in 1996 for two weeks and stayed at a resort on Chaweng Beach. At the time, it wasn't as built up as it is now. You will find it busier than where you are staying on Chaweng Beach and Lamai Beach. Nice shirt, by the way!

That Chang is so perfect for drinking like that. It's something I miss when I'm not in Thailand. I'm flying over in two weeks, though not to Samui. I'm inspired to go there! It looks a bit more like paradise than Bangkok. Haha! Oh! Those shirts seem like Song Kran shirts. Very popular. I'm getting one too, come the 19th.

Love the tours through southeast Asia. Would love to go. I don't want to be rude so I hope you don't take this the wrong way but to get rid of the lights flickering in your videos you need to adjust the framerate of your camera. I think Asia has a 50Hz frequency to their power so a 25, 50 or 100 frames per second should help. I think.
Not rude at all, John. I have tried to shoot at a higher framerate but it doesn't seem to help as much as we would like. The input is very much appreciated. We are still trying to master this film, editing, and UA-cam thing!! 😆

My personal choice is "water shoes". Easy to walk in, in or out of the water, on boats, in the street, anywhere. Light and inexpensive.

Hi folks….a question if I can. My wife and I are visiting Thailand Jan and Feb 2025. Our first stay will be 3 days in Bangkok, upon arrival. Do you think we need to book our flights between our stays now, or while we’re there? ie should we book our flight from Bangkok to Koh Samui now or wait until we’re in Bangkok. I guess there’s multiple flights during the day? Thanks!
For hopper flights between locations we typically wait to book. But, i do keep a watch on cost and availability just to be sure.

I've been to Thailand at least 20+ times, but never to Samui. After watching this video, I want to go. If you can't wear flip-flops, try out some Vibram Five Fingers. They're great for the beach.

That is so exciting!! You do not need a GoPro to start your channel. We use one because of its size and the fact we have limited space in our bags. We also find it easier to use when out shooting video in large crowds or around water, but we have used our phones in some situations as well. I hated flip flops for the longest time, then I finally bought a good pair from Reef then another from Crocs. Life changing. I did have to learn to walk in them and and now I live in flip flops….except in the sand, just go barefoot!
