Just for the record There were only 200 F6F/F4U planes shot down in air to air combat. And the F6F shot down over 6,000 aircraft. And the F4U shot down 2,140. This game is weird.
The US had a tendency to attribute air to air losses to other causes such as ground fire, mechanical breakdowns or landing accidents. They lost more than that in air combat for sure. And the figures you gave for the downed planes are claims only. The true figure is certainly lower.
