  • The 5 MIGHTIEST Dwarven Warriors in Tolkien's Legendarium - The Top 5 Best Dwarven Warriors of All Time.
In this video, i list the top 5 best dwarven warriors ever written in all of Tolkien's work. This includes, but is not limited to, the silmarilion, the hobbit, and the lord of the rings trilogy. In the fantasy of J. R. R. Tolkien, the Dwarves are a race inhabiting Middle-earth, the central continent of Arda in an imagined mythological past. They are based on the dwarfs of Germanic myths who were small humanoids that lived in mountains, practicing mining, metallurgy, blacksmithing and jewelry. Tolkien described them as tough, warlike, and lovers of stone and craftsmanship.
Dwarves were long-lived, with a lifespan of some 250 years. They breed slowly, for no more than a third of them are female, and not all marry. Tolkien names only one female, Dís, Thorin's sister. They are still considered children in their 20s, as Thorin was at age 24;[T 3] and as "striplings" in their 30s. Despite his young age, Dáin Ironfoot was 32 when he killed Azog, the orc chieftain of Moria. They had children starting in their 90s.
The Dwarves are described as "the most redoubtable warriors of all the Speaking Peoples" - a warlike race who fought fiercely against their enemies, including other Dwarves. Highly skilled in the making of weapons and armor, their main weapon was the battle axe, but they also used bows, swords, shields and mattocks, and wore armor.

Very cool. I love the movies, but i am not super well versed in the book stuff, so a lot of this is new to me.

I understand. Most fans of LOTR are only fans of the movies, but the books are fantastic and i can't recommend them enough.

Love Tolkien's Legendarium. My personal favorite Dwarf, other than Gimli, is Dain II Ironfoot.

Tolkien's legendarium is the only fantasy world that has enough solid lore to be close enough to history to interest me to this extent.

You have the facts about Azaghal muddled a little bit.
Firstly, a big misconception: Túrin Turambar was younger than 10 years old during Nirnaeth Arnoediad, so, he couldn't have defended him there. Secondly, he didn't die of a poisoned arrow. He died because Glaurung the dragon climbed on top of him and tried to squash him (and was ultimately successful in that), but during that, Azaghal plunged his KNIFE deep inside Glaurung, wounding him badly and driving him into an escape. He died, though, and his company of dwarves slowly, while singing, brought his corpse away from the battlefield, however noone dared to block or hinder them.
The person who died of a poisoned arrow (to the eye) was Huor, the brother of Húrin (who was the father of Túrin), while they were covering for the escape of the now High King of the Noldor, Turgon (whose brother Fingon had already died on the battlefield).

Dwalin. A beefy dwarf for the true of heart.

Right. He is one of the few characters from the Peter Jackson Hobbit trilogy that actually was handled well.

If all dwarves were as good as Gimli in combat, they would be, by far, the greatest warrior race in the entire legendarium.

That's true. If every dwarf could account for 40-60 orc kills per battle, the odds would never be too steep for them.

Same could be said for Legolis and the elves.
