I actually adore the 1950s style... and it's not like you absolutely had to dress that way. It's just what was in style. We have fashion trend nowadays too and if you stray from the mainstream ones you may be looked down upon. That's just how it is with the fashion of decades.
Bunny Senpai exactly, I'm sure if some one dressed as if they were in the 50's at least someone would wonder why 💞 I personally think style in the 50's was much cuter and more respectful which I love ☺️
i like the 1950's style too but I dont agree that you dont have to dress that way 1) other styles of clothes were not avialible and 2)you would definitly be made fun of if you didnt dress the same way. so either you dress that way or your constantly mocked and esencially have to make your own clothes.
not true. ''dinner'' clothes in the 50s meant it was a dinner party, so it would be ''evening gowns'' similar to that shown here which would have been worn, with gloves and a shawl. Dark clothes were usually for men
Mizudayo Yes, but the color certainly isn't correct (they were generally cream, red, or a darker color, not powdery flamingo pink). Also, those are more flapper-style clothes. 50s dinner clothes have flared skirts and petticoats, and generally go off-shoulder.
Has whoever made this video ever actually googled the 1950s style? Firstly, not everyone looked so fresh and prim and proper. Secondly, bright blue eyeshadow was VERY popular in the 50s. BOLD lips were worn, literally EVERYONE knows that from googling 1950s. Bright patterns were still worn. Google Sofia Loren, she had armpit hair, and EVERYONE had pubic hair down below, it actually WASN'T a big deal at all back then. Leg hair, armpit hair, muff hair, it didn't matter. Rule number nine? Google Teddy Girls. They dressed in masculine clothes and were SO cool. Take this paragraph from someone who has actually researched the 1950s, and not just trying to make money off pretending that nowadays is far more free and that the 1950s were literally black and white.
Rule #1: You gotta have fun Rule #2: Don't get attached to anybody you could lose Rule #3: Wear your heart on your cheeck (and never on your sleeve!) Rule #4: Gotta be looking pure
Stephy Sarabia to be totally honest I think I have a great look I'm a girl with the shortest hair I don't like makeup and I hate wearing dresses because I think I look terrible in them and I have an amazing bf who just loves to hang out with me you have a point everyone should have their own look.😃
I mean the whole point of the video is wear what you like. I also love vintage style, but i dont love the idea of being mistaken for a prostitute by prejudiced and self-righteous men if i wear anything above the knee lol the video is not about any individual style but about freedom of choice
I love how bold and wild we've become but I will definitely still respect the femininity and gentleness of the 1950s, even if it was quite restricting. I think it just proves to show how strong women were to speak out and nowadays we certainly benefit from their struggles.
Same. But the nice thing is that nowadays, we can wear both, the 1950s style, but also any bold look - anything we want. You don't have to be bold, you don't have to be classy, you can be both, or neither, you can make your own choices - we expanded our fashion-spectrum, and in this case, there's really no harm in more choices! We can actually express ourselves, instead of being forced into one style or another, whether we feel comfortable in it or not.
what struggles did they face exactly? Women started gaining a voice when the men from ww2 came back from war. The women had to take their jobs because there weren't enough men in the country, then when the men came back the women were replaced by men. I don't see how women struggled anymore than the men did, but whatever.
Rebekah Zammit I am also fond of the gentle sophistication of the 1950's style. I like clothes that are conservative and flowing. I don't really like to wear clothes that show too much skin or else I feel half-naked.
MRostendway Could you just stop judging people for their taste in fashion? If you don't like it, that's okay, you don't have to - but that doesn't mean you have to insult other people. It's the sign of a very weak mind if you need to do that to feel better about yourself, if you need to split people into "inferior" and "superior" because of something so insignificant.
Mina This video is about the differences between female fashion in the '50's and now. Im commenting in the commentsection what i think about this change in fashion. I think clothing are a way of representing yourself so me making an observation is not "insulting".
Alicia It's not the same though, because they have developed a bit from that culture. They've been there for the new innovations, so you wouldn't be able to see a fresh reaction unless they had been isolated for many years.
I get that it's ok for anyone to wear a swim suit. But with this whole body positivity movement, we have forgotten the negatives that do come with being overweight: heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, etc.
Noelle Wright do you also say that to the extremely underweight women gracing social media on a day to say basis? science has proven that being overweight, while sometimes unhealthy, can still lead to a longer life than being underweight, yet people still think its their duty to tell one extreme they're not healthy while ignoring the other.
TakeThis L I eat healthy, am a healthy weight. And all the body positivity videos they do which aim to glorify women who are overweight. And they always say that women if healthy weight are "unrealistic".
Thank you for not being rude about it! Everyone has their opinion but in the end body positivity is important. However, I don't believe in glorifying obesity. It can be a real problem based on your BMI, your eating vs. BMR, and amount of daily exercise. But not all women considered obese are unhealthy. And not all can control it, which is really unfortunate.
Dog Love People think differently and that's normal, but I find her boring, unconfident, a person who is afraid to step out of the box and think differently, to breake some rulles ...
DoctorMadeME Sorry if i made myself unclear, I ment that its totally fine to dress up how ever you want. Nowdays we have so much freedom and thats awesome! You can dress up as the 50's girl and as the nowday's girl. Just be yourself. For me she sounds unconfident not couse she dresses up like that, couse again, people have different styles and that's normal, but couse of the points she made.Bout having armpit hair and stuff like that. It's the 21st century and people are more confident to show themself's the why they want, as the way they are born. As humans.
Panic! At the phandom no I bet she was confident you DONT AND I SAY YOU DONT BECAUSE SO MAY FEMINISTS SAY THIS HAVE TO sow skin to be whatever feminist's meaning of "confident" so how bout YOu stfu and what girls have you seen are classy oh my mom and I like it that way
Im happy with the present fashion, so much more expression and acceptance. The 50s had an interesting style but no way would I ever want to be back there.
weirdly cool k didn't know your u had that much self hate about being women you have. You would rather have no rights and look pretty than have all your rights and look less classy
I agree women can wear whatever they want but I do think that women from the 50s looked very glamorous and classy as well as sexy I love looking at my grandmother's old photos from when she was young
It was just to show the diffeence between the "rules" of fashion in the 1950s and now. Do you have a problem with reading comprehension? Stop trying to assign stupid meaning to a simple video lol
Cool Pixie I just saw your gmail , in there I saw a pic that you've shared , the caption says "when someone takes a joke seriously" , I think that applies to you
While fashion today casts a wide net, I do wish some people still appreciated class. There's an elegance to it, and it's a style I'd love to see come back.
Mara Henao Yeah. I don't think glob by lipstick, muddied shoes, and excessive jewelry (at least not the kind that the example girl was wearing) is even STILL considered fashionable today. Today, clothes that fit, natural makeup is still what most people wear for their everyday makeup, thin jewelry and thin gold rings, but it's okay to have a lot of rings and have two on one finger, and all that is what's actually fashionable... very few of those girls clothes are anything that I would expect to see on actual well dressed people today.
Depends on where you live. In a bigger city, specially one that is quite active you can easily find a lot of people wich style are diverse and "extreme" as these and are perfectly well-dressed. In the city where I study I' d say that a good part of the younger people have an unusual style and will dress in a very interesting and distinct way even or maybe especially if they go to "serious" events like conferences and vernissages.
That's not the point of the video. The video is trying to say that today, you can do whatever you want. You wanna wear excessive eyeshadow and lipstick, thats cool, if not, that cool to. The video is saying that now, there aren't rules, or not as many anyway. They know these things are not the norm, but that's ok.
I buy a lot of vintage fashion from that era and find the dresses were better quality and constructed much more flattering for the female form than today's fashion. The vintage reproductions don't compare
True but it ssves so much time and you always look put together. Anyway it gives you more room to have fun with accesories, hair, makeup and stuff without looking tacky
Eliana Peretz that is so true, my closet is mostly cool colors and knitted sweaters. Warmer colors look awful on me, I guess it's what I'm most comfortable in. It really depends if you like having diversity or just one certain style. But if you feel good and look good in what you're wearing it doesn't matter.
The video isn't about not liking 1950's style, it's about the restrictions of style in that era. If you like to dress that way, go ahead, that's the beauty of current fashion
This video was especially cringey because they added rules like "dress feminine" and "you can't wear swimming suits if you're fat" to show they're edgy.
rct3sweed the thing was they lied this isn't true in 1950s many wore huge/ brightly colored outfits, belly tops and crazy hair, punk bands started then and also fat ladies (no offense) were often seen as the ones with belly tops what is cringed is that you believed it all.
You mean people actually wore other clothes in the 50's?!? They weren't forced to follow the above rules for fear of becoming the ultimate social outcasts??
Actually, in the 1950s women didn't want to be very skinny, they wanted to be an average weight and wanted to gain weight. (But not enough to be overweight) so no, they didn't want a slim figure actually.
Yes, I'm glad that certain things changed, such as the "rules" as to the way women should dress, but I actually quite enjoy the 1950s style, and think that it's fascinating how women dressed then compared to now. Fashion changes, but it always returns after a few years, and we have to remember that.
Alice except you can do fun things with your hair like dye it and cut it into different styles, armpit hair is too close to your body can't really bleach it and do crazy colors like you can the hair on your head, plus it's not on a super sweaty enclosed space on your body
I mean, as long as you keep your armpits clean. Wash them with a wash cloth and have certain products you put in it? I don't think its as gross as everyone is making it seem
I think they're forgetting that there were female greasers and pin-up fashion back in the 1950's. If they're gonna show alternative fashion from today's world, they should also show alternative fashion back then.
DietCoke I don't think it really matters whether I spelled the word correctly or not. I think it matters that it makes women feel like we don't have to fit a beauty standards and that you don't have to be a certain way to be beautiful and you should dress however you want. Thanks for telling me I spelled it wrong, I'll make sure to spell it right next time.
Why is it, that buzzfeed need to tear down one sense of style, to make others okay? If you want to be punk, be punk. If you want to dress 1950's style, dress 1950's style. You do you. No need to disrespect the more traditional style.
They're not disrespecting or tearing down anything. Their saying that you're free to wear what you want and you don't need to follow the "rules of fashion"
dmitri cochrane there's other styles other than makeup.... I dress really out there but I wear absolutely NO makeup, you don't have to follow the trends
Rule #7 is not bad to follow. Having a mixable wardrobe where every piece can be worn with others is affordable and space saving. And helps to save money.
nah not really, there are several subcultures that still use 1950's fashion style, and even more people that still follow those rules, so it it extremely normal :)
Armin K Aw sweetie, that's all you've got? Please, tell me how I am fat especially since you have literally no idea what size or weight I am. Go on, enlighten me.
Males really didn't have any gender roles other than having to work for families, be dominant, don't show emotion or weakness, and don't be feminine. We lived in a male dominated society where men were top dog. Women had to do all the housework, take care of the children, cook, shop, and follow every demand any male had.
Adam Trabelsi No, because every culture is different. There's a lot of places where women and men are expected to be one way and not venture outside of the guidelines. In fact, I think in every country there has to be at least one place like that.
oh you misunderstood me, when he said "this is just america" i was like "-and most of Europe". I meant that these rule does NOT exist in most of europe x)
layla-505 did I ever say I disagree with the video? I don't, in fact, I'm sure they could find an old Cosmo with content even more abhorable. Ps. If you've ever read a "history book" you'll know they must cite their source to be considered reputable, that's all I'm asking buzzfeed to do.
I actually agree with the 1950s rules as a way to look sophisticated and classy and SLAY! (Minus the "those without a slim figure one", however I believe buzzfeed made that one up to make ppl in the 1950s look hateful tbh) Of course though you do YOU and SLAY!
Didn't even notice that girl's underarm hair until she obviously looked down at it! I've always thought underarm hair would look awful but she actually pulls it off. Fair play!
BS. Voluptuous full figured curves were adored in the fifties. Ladies typically stayed away from being too waifish because they thought it made them look too young or boyish.
BS my mam'ma grew up in the 50's and had the body of the model up there in the bikini of the video she was made fun of for being fat. My Pap'pa has nudes of Marilyn Monroe and Betty Page. Monroe was the Icon of beauty yet she had even been called fat by other models and actresses at the time her measurements were as follows. she was 5 ft 5.5inches tall She fluctuated weight but in actuality according to her personal seamstress she never wieghed more than 120lbs and actually started her career at 115lbs Bust: 35-37(she never exceded 37 inches in the bust waist 22-23(she never exceeded 23) Hips 35-36(again never exceeded) She wore a 36D for the time(sizes have changed since then in drastic ways) She had her dresses made so tight they needed to be sewn on. She would wear an american 2-4 and a UK 8 or so. Basically your modern Idea of curves and the idea of curves back then in the actual 50's is very different.
Tyrone Randall yeah I get that, but how would one be shamed unless they already feel shame? if you don't feel shame about your looks already then no one can "shame" you.
My main complaint is that the woman from the 50s doesn't have a proper 50s hairstyle. Tighten up those curls, ma'am.
Oh my God bless you, I was just thinking that!! Just look up some pin curl tutorials, it's not hard. She looks like a modern suburban mom.
SERIOUSLY. It was hurting me to look at. A pincurl brush out is not hard to do..
I know, right, if you’re going to do 50’s style, do it right

I think a good middle ground between the 1950s and wild present style is best but that is my opinion for myself. Everyone should wear what they want.
See now that is a good way to comment your opinion :) Thank you!

I've always wanted to bring somebody from those times to see us now, and see how they react to our styles, technologies, values, etc. Dunno why.
That would be a cool concept for a film/movie!
They would have a heart attack due to the shock of being taken across time. The end.
I think about this all the time
You know, there are people who were born in the 1950s that are still alive today, for example, if you were born in 1950 you'd be 66 years old.
Alicia It's not the same though, because they have developed a bit from that culture. They've been there for the new innovations, so you wouldn't be able to see a fresh reaction unless they had been isolated for many years.

It was just to show the diffeence between the "rules" of fashion in the 1950s and now. Do you have a problem with reading comprehension? Stop trying to assign stupid meaning to a simple video lol
caarolflyy Sooooo edgyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
I love how there are no rules at all for fashion now
Grace Cardy There are. People just don't follow them that much
Grace Cardy meaning anyone could dress like prostitutes looking for money to buy drugs
Cool Pixie I just saw your gmail , in there I saw a pic that you've shared , the caption says "when someone takes a joke seriously" , I think that applies to you
girls should be able to wear the clothes they want without people saying they look like "prostitutes looking for money to buy drugs."
Grace Cardy it's great, we get to express who we are and no one can say anything about it. As long as you're actually wearing clothes you're good😂😂
While fashion today casts a wide net, I do wish some people still appreciated class. There's an elegance to it, and it's a style I'd love to see come back.
You mean 1950's style vs hipsters?
Mara Henao it wouldn't be a fun video showing basic style
You should go to New York; you see a lot of people dressed like that or similar. Maybe CA.,Tokyo and Germany on the weekends.
That's not the point of the video. The video is trying to say that today, you can do whatever you want. You wanna wear excessive eyeshadow and lipstick, thats cool, if not, that cool to. The video is saying that now, there aren't rules, or not as many anyway. They know these things are not the norm, but that's ok.
rule numbre1: is that you gotta have fun...
Thee Straw so le let me tell you, this is how to be heartbreaker
sillypinkgrl boys they like a little danger we'll get them falling for a stranger a player singing I lo lo lo love you
silvana valderrama baby when your done. You've got to be the first to run...
rule number one
Is that you gotta have fun
ziggylavigne Marina and the diamonds👏👏👏👌👌👌
ayyy
ziggylavigne Rule number one is that you gotta check what you say. That style is disgusting just like your opinions.
Abdallah Saleh wot?
Yassssss
All of these women are beautiful. (yes, that includes the one listing the rules)
I agree, but the one at 1:46 is not a woman, but is gender fluid. Please respect it's pronouns, please.
A Young Guy Who Likes the Olden Days Then why were they in a video about women's fashion rules?
I love 1950s style. Very classy and modest.
I'm honestly surprised there aren't a bunch of triggered, yet "tolerant" liberals attacking your comment.
A Young Guy Who Likes the Olden Days yeah me too
A Young Guy Who Likes the Olden Days what does being liberal have go do with it
A Young Guy Who Likes the Olden Days
Why would anybody get offended over her personal preference, just go somewhere
I buy a lot of vintage fashion from that era and find the dresses were better quality and constructed much more flattering for the female form than today's fashion. The vintage reproductions don't compare
I actually agree with Rule number 7. It just makes sense.
Eliana Peretz It kind of does but it can be quite boring to wear the same kind of colours all the time
True but it ssves so much time and you always look put together.
Cats And Hats true i guess but i feel like thats the u;timat fashion rule (just wearing what makes you feel comftorable)
I agree
The video isn't about not liking 1950's style, it's about the restrictions of style in that era. If you like to dress that way, go ahead, that's the beauty of current fashion
That's not what people are on about we're saying these 'rules' aren't historically accurate
I googled the definition for cringe and it brought me here.
rct3sweed yeah, 50's rules makes me cringe too.
Nah I don't like classy 50's I like GREASER 50's !!
Clorox Bleach your awesome
z
Clorox Bleach yessss
Clorox Bleach "the outsiders" !!
Poor johnny
You mean people actually wore other clothes in the 50's?!? They weren't forced to follow the above rules for fear of becoming the ultimate social outcasts??
Actually, in the 1950s women didn't want to be very skinny, they wanted to be an average weight and wanted to gain weight. (But not enough to be overweight) so no, they didn't want a slim figure actually.
Here is a new rule...
Wear whatever makes you feel good! 💕❤️
Yes, I'm glad that certain things changed, such as the "rules" as to the way women should dress, but I actually quite enjoy the 1950s style, and think that it's fascinating how women dressed then compared to now. Fashion changes, but it always returns after a few years, and we have to remember that.
+ZozziGames there were no rules on how women should dress
So you don't wear pants, t-shirts, or shorts, right?
Aug
What? Where did you get that idea from?
Yeah I hate armpit hair it holds bacteria and sweat and you cant go as long without showering haha I would prefer if no one had armpit hair
Ashli Geran might as well shave your hair. I mean... That holds bacteria and sweat too right?
Alice except you can do fun things with your hair like dye it and cut it into different styles, armpit hair is too close to your body can't really bleach it and do crazy colors like you can the hair on your head, plus it's not on a super sweaty enclosed space on your body
Alice that sounds groosss
You can bleach and dye your armpit hair same as your head hair.
I mean, as long as you keep your armpits clean. Wash them with a wash cloth and have certain products you put in it? I don't think its as gross as everyone is making it seem
I think they're forgetting that there were female greasers and pin-up fashion back in the 1950's. If they're gonna show alternative fashion from today's world, they should also show alternative fashion back then.
agizzy23 Have these people seen the Pink Ladies in Grease?
my style is essentially the 50s look with a modern edge. Bless the modern rockabilly look.
buzzfeed we get it. you're triggered
lmao
Krista Lenz, Triggered af.
Krista Lenz So are you.
They gotta show it Im afraid
That fake guitar playing was like the visual equivalent to nails on a chalkboard.
1950's is my favorite fashion era.
MissABP 70s/80s punk is mine..... To each their own.
but i prefer the 1950s rules better i havent seen anyone wear clothes like how they portray the present style
-zyxkjd- Kyungsoo!!!
Also, same. I haven't seen anybody dress like this.
girl u listen to kpop, do u not see what some idols wear to airports?
Megurine Luka That's true, but I mean nonfamous people. Idols wear many strange things.
I can't tell you how many times I've seen someone dress like that at the college I go to
Have you ever been to a bigger city?
Ha! Both of my grandmother's had amazing style in the 50's. Nothing was ever boing.
Nice thing about the 50's fashion is that it'll never go out of style. It will look good 500 years from now. The modern fashion on the other hand...
I'm more likely to be like the 1950s lady
Mackenzie Love Good for you. Don't let these people turn you into one of them...
I honestly love when BuzzFeed does videos like this. I always feel super impowered!!
so "impowered" you can't even spell it right?
DietCoke I don't think it really matters whether I spelled the word correctly or not. I think it matters that it makes women feel like we don't have to fit a beauty standards and that you don't have to be a certain way to be beautiful and you should dress however you want. Thanks for telling me I spelled it wrong, I'll make sure to spell it right next time.
Why is it, that buzzfeed need to tear down one sense of style, to make others okay? If you want to be punk, be punk. If you want to dress 1950's style, dress 1950's style. You do you. No need to disrespect the more traditional style.
HereIAm247 They're not tearing it down they're just saying it's okay to break the fashion rules sometimes.
They're not disrespecting or tearing down anything. Their saying that you're free to wear what you want and you don't need to follow the "rules of fashion"
Well there's no way I rather today's fashion than the 50s fashion. It was so much prettier and elegant before...
totally agree todays world its just makeup makeup makeup
makeup is cool too...
dmitri cochrane there's other styles other than makeup.... I dress really out there but I wear absolutely NO makeup, you don't have to follow the trends
Is it weird that I follow all these "rules" most of the time when I didn't even know they were rules????
be true nah it's just you being you. Do what makes you feel comfortable and happy 💜.
I fit better in the 50s than I do now :/
Moni B same 😂😂
Rule #7 is not bad to follow. Having a mixable wardrobe where every piece can be worn with others is affordable and space saving. And helps to save money.
I'm living for that transatlantic accent tho.
is it weird that I relate to most if the 1050s things? yh. probably
Grace Brown 1050? wow, that's so old
nah not really, there are several subcultures that still use 1950's fashion style, and even more people that still follow those rules, so it it extremely normal :)
Grace Brown what do the 1050s have to do with this video tho?
Wish we had the 50s still.
Sorta opens my eyes to how far we've come lol
Yes, unfortunately men still have to cover up their entire bodies in the workplace and keep a short trimmed hair.
The amount of whiny men in these comments is sad. I'd say I'm surprised but they always seem to flock to every buzzfeed video to whine and complain.
***** Lmao please open a dictionary some time because I was just simply stating a fact.
Triggered much?
You're fat.
Off course, dismiss any dissenting opinion from men as misogynist. And feminist claim they actually care about the concerns of men.
Manny Akintunde They only care about feeling comforted in their unhealthy lifestyle.
Armin K Aw sweetie, that's all you've got? Please, tell me how I am fat especially since you have literally no idea what size or weight I am.
Go on, enlighten me.
Cringe levels= over 9000
Do you even know what cringe means?
Yeah, she does. That's why she used the word.
the door is to the left
+Cool Pixie chill, it isn't that deep
Emma O'Gorman Somebody understands.
not one person I saw in this video was stylish according to the present or past
Hahah! Ture, I've never seen anyone wear those kinds of outfits before (Expect like 1 or 2 that were actually normal...)
What is this trying to prove...?
This is proving that humanity has changed and that we are more free to do what we want, and dont have to follow a bunch of rules to be accepted.
Marina so wheres the boy veraion?
Georgia Kunitz u dont think males didnt?
Males really didn't have any gender roles other than having to work for families, be dominant, don't show emotion or weakness, and don't be feminine. We lived in a male dominated society where men were top dog. Women had to do all the housework, take care of the children, cook, shop, and follow every demand any male had.
Miranda Bella That everyone is beautiful, you know not everything has to have an agenda.
Honestly I like 1950's style more...
Kyle Drury I disagree. I mean no colors is no fun.
Mariam Tutuyan I was talking about how she said women should not wear colorful clothes. I’m not that stupid 😂
It’s fine I honestly don’t care
Thanks your understanding
I absolutely love this era; everyone has come into themselves and is confident to wear what makes them happy and I think that's lovely.
i loved the girl with the blue hair fashion choice.
Erris thanks
then: don't do this don't do that
now: do whatever you want no ones stopping u
Except for the fat shaming I totally agree with the 1950's rules. People dressed far classier back then.
There are no style rules but there's always something to learn about fashion that will help you enhance your personal style best!
Is this normal that these "rules" are still up in my country ?
Adam Trabelsi No, because every culture is different. There's a lot of places where women and men are expected to be one way and not venture outside of the guidelines. In fact, I think in every country there has to be at least one place like that.
(and most of Europe)
SubbedDreams 21 yeah and it really sucks
Well they don't really exist in Sweden so not my part of Europe atleast
oh you misunderstood me, when he said "this is just america" i was like "-and most of Europe". I meant that these rule does NOT exist in most of europe x)
I wish I could time travel cause then I could go back to the 1950s and show them how it's done
just got an hour long ad from TNT ???????
it's pretty good I'm considering not skipping it
hahahahaha
Where did they find these "rules" from the 50's, my guess is they were just made up by BuzzFeed to give their video some nice juxtaposition.
Beck Burchett I thought the same. They should state where they found those rules
ever hear of history books? try it sometimes you'd be surprised what kinda knowledge they possess
layla-505 Sure. Still, it would be nice to state the source for this particular set of rules
layla-505 did I ever say I disagree with the video? I don't, in fact, I'm sure they could find an old Cosmo with content even more abhorable. Ps. If you've ever read a "history book" you'll know they must cite their source to be considered reputable, that's all I'm asking buzzfeed to do.
Beck Burchett Exactly on the citing the source part :)
Thank the Almighty Spaghetti Monster I was born now and not in the 50's.
You were born two days ago? Lmao
Malvavisco Yeah.
rossuwu69
Blasphemy
Am I the only one that wanted #1's guitar SO BAD?!
Raquel Lula Hugo tbh the guitar was nice but you know what was better ?
the shoes
Rocio Arguello agree to disagree, I am a guitarist...
That’s my baby. But honestly I like my epiphone better than that gibson. I also have a black gibson
1:52 WHY WOULD YOU TIE A TIE LIKE THAT?????
edgy
Maia Adolphs because it has no idea what it's doing
There's a book called "The 85 ways to tie a tie" I wonder if it's in there. But I did think that too, it could be fancier.
Maia Adolphs are you telling her she can't tie it like that? Remember no rules. I'm only joking, I just think it is ironic
I actually agree with the 1950s rules as a way to look sophisticated and classy and SLAY! (Minus the "those without a slim figure one", however I believe buzzfeed made that one up to make ppl in the 1950s look hateful tbh) Of course though you do YOU and SLAY!
And whoops forgot to watch entire vid! Ones towards end are kinda disagreeable
Great video! Very inspirational! The only thing I think hasn't changed is the hairs, you still have to be perfect with not a hair on you
Feel free to dress however you like. In the end, it is your personality that counts!
omg so style changes over time? WOW
my body, my rules
Didn't even notice that girl's underarm hair until she obviously looked down at it! I've always thought underarm hair would look awful but she actually pulls it off. Fair play!
BS. Voluptuous full figured curves were adored in the fifties. Ladies typically stayed away from being too waifish because they thought it made them look too young or boyish.
Rachel Torres actually, in the fifties, "full figured curves" were hourglass shaped and considered to be "slim figured". Unlike today.
Sami Hess Yes, I forgot to mention that
Oh, to have a gorgeous figure like Jane Russell... I'm definitely hourglass-shaped, but need to lose weight to get there. T-T
BS my mam'ma grew up in the 50's and had the body of the model up there in the bikini of the video she was made fun of for being fat. My Pap'pa has nudes of Marilyn Monroe and Betty Page.
Monroe was the Icon of beauty yet she had even been called fat by other models and actresses at the time her measurements were as follows.
she was 5 ft 5.5inches tall
She fluctuated weight but in actuality according to her personal seamstress she never wieghed more than 120lbs and actually started her career at 115lbs
Bust: 35-37(she never exceded 37 inches in the bust
waist 22-23(she never exceeded 23)
Hips 35-36(again never exceeded)
She wore a 36D for the time(sizes have changed since then in drastic ways)
She had her dresses made so tight they needed to be sewn on. She would wear an american 2-4 and a UK 8 or so.
Basically your modern Idea of curves and the idea of curves back then in the actual 50's is very different.
I say love your body no matter what shape or size, but stop using the 50's as an example, it isn't a proper one.
omg the girl wearing the pink feathers is me
I hate when people fat shame people
Tyrone Randall what even is fat shaming?
Courtney Love shamming someone because of their weight.
Tyrone Randall yeah I get that, but how would one be shamed unless they already feel shame? if you don't feel shame about your looks already then no one can "shame" you.
Tyrone Randall ur black and a male what do u care
Tyrone Randall Agreed.
Girl at 1:19 looked so pretty ! Honestly all the women slayed!!!!
i prefer the 1950s 60 times over
I hate the misogynistic culture of the 50's but I really do like the style...
0:36 I just fell in love with het hair. Beautiful blue💙💙
dorka xo
The only problem I had was how she tied the tie
All of these women are so beautiful like HOW
THEY'RE ALL SO GORGEOUS HOW DO YOU REACH SUCH LEVEL OF BEAUTY
in my opinion I like the girls style in the 50's more then the presents lol.
