- In this video, I demonstrate how to check for a plenum gasket leak in my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500. Plenum gasket failures are a very common problem across the Magnum engine platform used in second generation Rams, second generation Dakotas, and first generation Durangos.

No need to unplug that sensor in order to get the hose clamp off for the air box
Good vids man, it really helps when you've been out for a couple years. I never understood what the old timer meant when they said I forgot more than u learned lol
Thanks for the great information and on hands tutorial
GREAT video! Thanks man.
Pine needles suck! My wonderful neighbors planted a pine just inside their property line and now that turd is enormous and drops needles all over my vehicles. GRRR!
your tps is upside down very common mistake will cause idle issues
Thanks for the Video. I followed your direction to find the leak and surly i do have a suction from the hose going to air filter. I did see some oil inside(very little) when i was looking from the top of the carburetor, not much, truck has 109K miles.
do you know why the IAC sensor code P0505 is coming on I changed it and is new? and before that my ABS light came on and my break Padel was touching the floor. Next day break light and ABS light went away but engine came on p0505 for Idle Air control valve, any relations between these two?
thank you for your help inadvance

So whenever I’m at a stop and let my truck idle, after a bit it starts to hiss and then idles extremely poorly to where it wants to shut off but I give her gas to keep her going is this a plenum gasket that has failed?
I don’t have vacuum on the vent hose but some exhaust blowing out of it instead. Is that normal?
it drives me crazy that people let leaves and pine needles pile up under the hood, just GRAB THEM! you're there already, just...get them, and take them out, lol
That's their air freshener...pine scented
you pointed to the cable and called it the throtle cable. isnt it called the kick down cable?
I'm suspecting my truck has a vaccume leak as well do u think it would throw a ttc code. My airbox was cracked so I found one today to replace. I cleaned my throttle plate it had oil on it I should take another look inside
If you suspect a vacuum leak, I would definitely start with taking a look inside the throttle to inspect for oil inside the manifold. Oil on the throttle plate doesn't necessarily mean you have a plenum leak - you could just have a failed PCV valve that's allowing crankcase oil to pass by. Also try checking for vacuum at the air intake hose as I showed in this video.
Good luck!
Did the plenum leak cause the engine to have a low speed misfire from just above idle to around 2500 rpm?
Did you find the miss?
What’s that o ring called by the the throttle body can’t seem to find anywhere
Its called an air cleaner mounting gasket
Those pine needless and leaves add 5 HP
they made the most annoying as possible intake for these trucks, even changing the air filter is a pain in the ass relative to other vehicles.
My father brought his vehicle to 2 guys in charollton Georgia. The people are just ignorant they'll take his money, but wont do the work. These guys have more experience than me so not to everyone don't trust any mechanics in west Georgia
