THANK YOU for the very informative video!!! I just bought a 2003 CR250R so I’ll definitely look to see what this currently specs out at!! Safe riding, Brother!! 👍👍✌️
Looking to get a cr250 and its been informational overload where the 02-07's are "terds" yet some love them. Been reading more about the power valves on these model years and appreciate the very informative video. Used the be an intermediate woods rider when I peaked buts its been a little while. Looking to get back in the saddle and have always wanted a 250 2S MX bike. These bikes are becoming harder to find and guys are not letting them go. I'd like to find a clean one and keep it forever. Thanks again for the video, you seem like a fun guy to grab a beer with. Cheers
Ron Steurer Honestly they are all kind of feel sluggish if you put them up against a new 250 KTM. You alway want a little bit more but there is something about riding a HONDA and the sound of them. I got one for the same reason you want one. I grew up on them and I want to keep one. It’s not my dream bike but a lot of people will complement the CR and want to talk about it.
The 02 to 07 are alot better than previous years, if you've owned both the 02 to 07 and the 00 and earlier you'll realise the honda engineers didn't go backwards lol. You hear people all the time saying the earlier years are better yet they've never owned the 02 to 07 to compare it to lol. A properly set up 02 to 07 smashes the ass out of the earlier years on the track all the time. I've gone up against a 97, 99, 00 and 01 on the track with my 02 and not once have I been beaten by them lol. But it's 90% rider 10% bike.
Hey thank you for this! I have 06 250cr with gnarly/powercore 2 and vforce reeds. It runs great and doesnt bog down at all BUT i have stock jetting on. Whats your opinion what way should i go with jets or just leave them? IT runs great no problems on/off/on throtling picks up great etc. Maybe little detonations on low rpm (needle jet Area) on Deacleration. Add. Detonation is only way i can deacribe it with my Limited english haha 🤣 like like punch before it should bang. Doesnt do it on every roation just like 1-2 times before Idle.
Absolutely appreciate your explanation. I own a number of 2 strokes myself. At 55 I’m back ripping on these great bikes. I recently bought a basket case 02 CR250R, been having trouble with that pesky power valve. You explained a lot. I prefer my 00 YZ250, and my 03 RM250 over this thing. However, you can’t get past Honda quality, that’s why I keep this bike. I’ll need your advice in the near future, again great stuff! Thank you! Aloha!
Bill Hatcher I also appreciate your comment. I’m 40 now and just got back in to it after 4-5 years off so I can ride with my boys. I always loved Honda and the look. Only other dirt bikes I would own would be European
SXS Marine no European bikes for me. I don’t need one. The reason is parts availability and accessibility. Here in Hawaii it all has to shipped in. The YZ especially has years of crossover parts. The Euros are great just with year specific parts and not alway available in the warehouse in Cali. Forget it! The YZ is just as good in some case performance wise better. It really is the rider and not the machine in Hawaii single track. A good friend of mine enters all the hare and hound races on his stock 05 YZ125, he absolutely crushes good guys on their XC, EXC, and XCW 300s, the rider not the machine.
I've gone up against the 97, 99, 00 and 01 on my properly setup 02 on the track and I've never been beaten, why people think the honda engineers went backwards is beyond me lol. Most people just repeat what they've heard from others but have never owned a 02 to 07 lol. Now I have a full PC works system, lectron carb, boyesen rad valve, a longer flange for added bottom end and the thing is an animal right from low to mid and high, zero lag anywhere.
01 cr250 is best motor package from factory you cant beat it the ignition an timing all got better in 2001 last year mechanical power valve im jus an old school mechanical person I daily drive a 2nd gen Cummins mechanical mafia 😂👌💪
I just opened the cover on a 2002 honda cr125r and it was black inside completely and dry caked on oil. What do I do? Can I just clean all this immediately with a spray grease remover? Also what does this say about the motor and how do I prevent it from happening again?
That’s pretty common on older bikes. Your seal on the Power valve rod is just getting bad and exhaust is getting inside the compartment. You can clean it out for now but eventually you will want to get it fixed. Just wait until you redo the top end. It will not hurt anything.
It’s quite common now for the tracks in the servos to wear causing the valves to flutter or be intermittent. Also check out zeeltronic if you fancy controlling and mapping the tv valve via programmer
I haven’t done it yet. but i have wanted to make a powetvalve limiter. dril and tap the cylinder and thread a rod to limit the max opening, my theory is it should help the mid hit and let you tune the over rev, an 02 over opens the power valve and the 04 limits the maximum open, so it has me thinking
For sure, have played with them before. One of these days I would like to try the limiter, it might tune the power a little, may not do much at all! The works bikes upgraded the servo motor so it would open faster from what I read, and increased the stator output
I have an 02 CR250R. Just rebuilt the top end and the motor hesitates at about 3/4 throttle and doesn’t want to climb… not a crisp clean acceleration all through the rpm band. Bottom end power is great. Could it be due to me putting the power valve back together incorrectly when I rebuilt it?
You might be running out of fuel on the top end try putting a bigger main jet in the carburetor. But no, if you put the power valves together wrong, it should still run pretty well.
@@sxsmarine4075 thanks, I’ll give that a shot. It ran great on the old top end. As a test I dropped the needle clip two positions; shouldn’t that add a little more fuel? But it seems even worse now…
Nice video. Good explanation! Got a quick question, I got an 02 cr250 and I rode through a creek that was ALOT deeper than I thought and got water damn near up to the seat. I quickly shut off the bike and did not start it at all. Took home, tipped upside down got all the water out of the pipe, removed spark plug, drained water from the head, flushed the oil I don’t know how many times lol but now my bike just seems soo much more “clackey”. Could be me being paranoid. But it screams like nothing ever happened. Runs great. Any ideas? Ever happened to you before? Thanks for reading!
I would worry about it it happens. You did everything right. I would take off the stater cover and make sure it didn’t get wet in there as well. It has a seal on it but I would check
Ooo there are other and better ways. This video is for a beginner. If you wanna takeoff the pipe look in the cylinder and get it perfect that’s up to you
Yes you should pull the pipe to get it right on but the video is not about that. it’s to help people that don’t know much about mechanics to get it close. Plus depending on a lot of variables 12 mm could be right on or like you said over rotate the power valve.
Thank you for this video

“Picked up two bikes “ fucken best bike ever made in my opinion I wouldn’t choose any other bike
The 2002+ ones
Don't know what it does but I know it makes power

Rc not tv. Autocorrect hits again

I need urgent help with my RC Valve, I already did everything and I do not know what the fault is, I could send a video to an email, please
Can it damage the engine when a cable is broken?
No. Just wouldn’t have the power it should
so the front cable tension when u say case are u talking the casing that the wire comes thru or the jug
codysnell_ 87 the side of the jug
SXS Marine thats a good bit of slack
codysnell_ 87 you just want a little but not to much that it hits the side of the jug. Just give it what I had in the video
Which year cr125 do not have these rc’s
2004 was the only year they had them
Where do you order the cables?
I know Rocky Mountain ATV had them the last time I looked. You have to look them up in the OEM parts part of the website.
I have a 2004 cr125 with an rc valve
Yep I got the year wrong 2004 was the only year I believe
@@sxsmarine4075 all good, but yeah the 2004 was the only year they made the rc valve for the 125
