@@ScottOmatic I think Toyota got lazy with the new Supra. Maybe because BMW is the only one producing a potent inline 6 and wanted to pay hommage to the 2jz..But if Toyota really wanted to, they could've made something 100% Toyota and rock the socks out of that Z4

But at the end of the day, Toyota did this project to convince people they were still cool. Instead, all they showed us is that they are still a corporation with a bottom line. If they were passionate about what they were building, they could have afforded to build it themselves.

Yup, and it’s not going to change unless people stop fighting for new vehicles. I guarantee the stealerships will go below MSRP if vehicles sat on the lot without buyers for months unless they sold for MSRP or below, but it ain’t gonna happen because people are willing to pay 10k over. Think about it, their goal is just to make money, not to make people happy. They could care less if you are happy and will return there. Stealerships that actually care about their customers are in the minority, maybe 1 in 100. Every stealerships I’ve been to, has always been about trying to scam me for a penny more if they can. I was so surprised at the length they went to try and scam me to buy an extra $200 clear bra by telling me it’s already on there and I just have to pay for it, when clearly it’s not on there and when confronted about it, the useless human being selling me the truck, said I pay now and bring it back for them to apply it later, like wtf?!?.
The 86 should have been released with the modern equivalent of the 3S-GTE Turbo engine from the later MR2 Turbo. They have always been very underpowered and that stopped a lot of enthusiasts getting into them even though the chassis and steering were sweet. Nice build dude. Rock on!
it is not underpowered just because it's not some 600WHP monster that will break after 10,000 miles and does 8mpg. I hate that about the modern car scene, that all enthusiast cars need to make 350 off the lot or it's underpowered. All of the OG kings of JDM from the NSX to the R34 GTR had under 300 horsepower and were never considered underpowered. The GR86 didn't need to come from the factory with any more power but it is amazing that it's such a great platform that it can handle so much more than it came with.
Fantastic execution creating this unique performance sportscar! Being well over 70 years old would have a hard time getting in and out of the car. I can still appreciate the enthusiasm that Jeff put into creating this car.
I saw a gr86 for the first time maybe a week ago and had to google what it was. And I'm usually pretty on top of new cars and stuff. And these guys already shoved a jz in it. Good job fellas
The GE is a better fit for this build due to the different routing of the water necks, really keeps the bay clean and the plumbing hidden lower instead of the top water neck running across the front of the engine. Real clean work man. Thank you for putting out a machine like this 👌

I went to Fat Five Racing back in March and saw the cars JZ Jeff mentioned. Also went to a private test and tune/drift practice with Minowa Shinji san and his son Hiroya san. Saw the RB aero'd and 2J'd GR86 in person and it looks the business. Love Japan
It’s wild that Toyota still does that oe color, my 1991 Supra came in the same sapphire metallic black from factory; granted the first owner had it specked out by looking at the sticker tag but still 20 years later still a gorgeous color.
Seeing this car in person is always so amazing. I've seen it many times but I still stop and look at all the details that went into building the car. This 86 is absolutely perfect.
I don't like the silver colored shape of the intercooler, changes the front vibe and flow of the car. Just my suggestion. Only instant suggestion I can give is to paint it all black. Or paint the horizontal bars and leave it with two silver viper fangs? I don't know, LOL! Good build though!
This is an amazing build. I am eagerly awaiting future aftermarket availability with this chassis. It would be really cool to see someone put a Porsche flat 6 into the BRZ/GR86.
I agree and I actually looked into this. A ~300 horsepower Boxster or Cayman engine is around $20,000 used. A 911 engine even more. That is why you don't see people swapping Porsche engines in Subarus.
@@ProjectM97 That makes sense. While I'm sure it would be cheaper to put a wrx engine in a GR86, a Porsche flat 6 would be way cooler. I would also like to see a 13b rotary or another lightweight JDM legend like an SR20DET those costs are quickly becoming too expensive. Hopefully Toyota makes good on their possibility to put the 3 cylinder turbo from the GR Corolla.

I’m curious how long it’ll be before somebody swaps the motor and 6 speed tans from an mkV Supra in one of these. I absolutely love the 2J, but the B58 would be a pretty dope swap to be being newer tech. Now that it’s been researched and tested extensively, pulling a good 800hp out of it for a street car this size would make for such a fun daily. I know the B58 swap has been done before, but not with its own factory trans. But this build is stupid clean. Nothing was missed and it was all done with massive attention to detail.
I don't see the point of swapping in a B58. The only reason to go that route is to be "different". 2J swap is much more simple and already a proven platform. I think he made a great decision going with the 2j imho.

Always liked the new design on the 86 and also far better looking than the mk5. If the 86 would've been the new mk i would've been perfectly fine with it. Majestic.
Do in my city they’d still say “You act like it’s a Supra or something”. But I swear anytime someone is making their own thing that’s awesome engineering crediting.
You'd be surprised how little it would affect it if the coilovers are set up properly. You probably couldn't notice it much at all on the street, maybe with some hard roadcourse driving you might notice the heavier front end. A lot of aftermarket parts lower weight and you don't even realize it; exhaust, wheels, coilovers, calipers/rotors, seats, battery. My turbo'd FR-S weighed 2650lbs with half tank of fuel which was lighter than it came from the factory and very much improved in every aspect.

86 has been my favorite car I've ever driven. They're beautiful, sound amazing, and drive like they're on rails. Only downside is the power, which this definitely solves lol.

I really tried to buy a gr86 but it was impossible to lock one down for msrp, so I got a 2019 subie wrx instead. Its crazy these are super rare to see for how high demand is
The factory diff being that strong either has to do with Toyota's tradition of great build quality (mechanical) or the engineers already knew these cars would be modified once bought.

I honestly felt that the GR86 was closer to the ethos of what the Supra was, than the new Supra. This car with the 2JZ really seals that for me.

The platform is great for tuners because it can handle a crazy amount beyond what its sold with.

The 2JZ is a special motor paired with a really cool chassis. Watching drifting its easy to how fast and accurate the GR86 cars are.

I wasn’t really a fan of the more squared off fenders on the wide body at first, but the more I look at it the more I like it.

Haha, you're in Everett WA, that intro pull merging onto I5 is the most epic on ramp, very twisty, and then flat out at the end. Very nice!
I really tried to buy a gr86 but it was impossible to lock one down for msrp, so I got a 2019 subie wrx instead. Its crazy these are super rare to see for how high demand is

The factory diff being that strong either has to do with Toyota's tradition of great build quality (mechanical) or the engineers already knew these cars would be modified once bought.
Now I would have called this a new Supra instead of the Bupra we have now just saying. Awesome build and super clean AF.
