From the Federal website:
Product Overview
Range time has never been this clean. For years, American Eagle® Indoor Range Training (IRT) ammunition has helped shooters minimize lead at the firing line. Now we've made it even cleaner with the addition of the Federal® Catalyst™ lead-free primer. Unlike DDNP-based lead-free primers, the exclusive Catalyst formulation is non-hygroscopic, offering the same reliability, shelf life and ballistics of conventional lead styphnate primers. Matched with all-new lead-free bullets that produce similar splash-back as conventional jacketed lead on reactive targets, the loads provide unprecedented safety and training realism.
Proven, clean-shooting Catalyst primer
Identical ballistics as conventional lead styphnate primers with the same reliability and shelf life
Lead-free projectiles engineered to be as safe-or safer-than conventional jacketed lead bullets when fired against hard targets
More reasonably priced than other lead-free options - Розваги
Thanks for the review. Just bought a quantity for LCR practice and as long as it fits the cylinder looks like a good choice.
Your welcome, thanks for watching. I'm always trying to find ammo that's not known so we'll and give it a try and let people know what I think.
@@58Alpha I received my order and have fired ~250 rounds through my LCR and spouse’s G19.
You nailed this 70 grainer in your review!
Personally had to settle down and concentrate for groupings like my normal range rounds…
…which, I think, makes this a great practice ammo for me.
Thanks again for an excellent review.
@@toneeclark399 thanks a lot, I'm glad you're enjoying the rounds. They are a bit snappy but good practice!
I'm interested in using this ammo exclusively simply for the lead free primer and bullet. Want to start shooting at an indoor range and want to minimize lead exposure so not having any from my gun would be a good start I guess.
Yes that is true. It just costs more unfortunately
@@58Alpha so far I've only found two brands that have readily available 9mm fully lead-free ammo, Defender and Federal's IRT ammo. Cheaper of the two is about $20 a box at best, but then there's ground shipping so it makes sense to get a few at a time. Defender's ammo is $30 before shipping.
@@KBoon If you have "Fleet Farm", I'd check them out before ordering ammo online. Found this exact ammo there today for exactly $30 per box of 50.
Also found some Federal "Train + Protect" 115 grain HOLLOW POINT for the same price!
I bought all of the hollow point. Bought none of the 70 grain because I wasn't sure what it was all about. After seeing the velocity, I think I'll pick up a few boxes for the carbine and see how far they'll go (and stay on target)
$0.45/round at velocityammo! $0.34/round for their 180gr .40S&W toxic metal free primers there too!
@@KBoon does defender use lead free primers? Can’t find any information on their site about that
cool vid, thank you. not a lot of ppl covering this excellent load. i used to have a Yugo Tokarev in 7.62x25mm, but a lack of ammo issue, so i sold it, keeping my Yugo Tok in 9mm. The 7.62 Tok slug pops through class 2 body armor..thus expanded to 40-45 cal, still penetrates 12" of bal. gel. Amazing. My hope is this similar weight/vel slug will have similar terminal ballistics. A velocity above..1,400, or so, generates good secondary missile effects..as in bone/rib fragments. This does speed up incapacitation..as well as an exit wound..so I am a 100% non expanding slug guy for defense, as far as pistol ammo. And 1625fps from a 4" pipe is amazing in a pistol with a decent dia slug...ie not a .22, or 5.7mm. My nephews & I had a thick aluminum plate and this 70gr Federal load put a much deeper dent..almost punching through..compared to 9mm 's with 115, 124 and 147 gr slugs. Idk the plate thickness, it is at my bros farm. Probs 1/3"..maybe 1/2".
btw..Palmetto State has some crazy 9mm ammo for sale, inc a 50gr that books out at 2,000fps!
That's awesome and good to know! Thanks for watching and commenting
@@58Alpha You're welcome!
I just realized level contamination is a major issue atleast i can still enjoy 9mm because of this ammo cool to see
Yeah, in indoor ranges for sure, especially the ones with horrible ventilation. You'll be paying more for the ammo though. But at least it's available for those who wish to use it. Thanks for watching!
Great review. Have you experimented with any other lead free ammo?
Not too much. I have some 10mm lead free ammo coming soon though that i plan to talk about though.
That’s awesome. I’ve been getting more into the lead free options for health reasons. If you’re taking requests, would love to see a review regarding the Magtech 9mm Luger FEB. The bullet is completely jacketed and there is a lead free primer
@@itsforz i can look into it and see if there are any good deals on it. What kinds of things do you like to see in such a review? Recoil analysis or accuracy or anything else?
@@itsforz btw that ammo seems to be mostly sold out everywhere I've checked so far
what ammo have you found that has better (lower) recoil?
Is there an ammo that you prefer that is better then this one? (low recoil, low weight and high speed)
Thanks!
Yes, the ammo I found that I like the best for low recoil is Defender Pro Series. It is not high speed though, I use it for competition. It will be hard to find a low weight, high speed round that has low recoil. But I have various youtube videos testing for recoil on 9mm rounds if you want to check them out.

@@58Alpha excellent! Ty for the advice!
is this considered a hot load since the velocity is so high?
Not necessarily..but I guess people like to say hot in general...because there is definitely ammo that is even faster out there
What shot clock app are you using on your phone?
Hi there. There is no shot clock I am using in this video. I did use the Mantis X10 for recoil analysis however.
Cant you test if it will go through body armor like the LIBERTY 9MM+P 50GR HP CIVIL DEFENSE AMMUNITION.
@@Selfdefense4k The ammo is not considered as defensive ammunition as the Liberty ammunition is that you mentioned, so I was not considering it. I do not have an extra body armor plate or soft armor to test. As this channel grows and if there's enough money from ads is available, I'll consider buying some armor to test.
I figured it would be less recoil, less weight to move
Thanks for watching! Yeah I mean it didn't feel too bad or manageable, but it's got a lot of velocity which offsets the weight and it's a pistol and you don't get a lot of recoil dampening like you would in an AR with a super light bullet but way higher velocity. That's why I like to look at the Mantis data so I don't go off feeling, but the numbers. Also visually too helps in slow motion.
@@58Alpha i wanna know if the very high fps with that projectile is worth it. test to see how it does against a piece of plywood, car door and direct shot to 3 ballistic gel blocks?
@@GodsChosen69 well what are you trying to accomplish? This is just range ammunition, just target and practice use.
@@58Alpha it doesnt matter what its labeled for if this is a super deadly projectile then im gonna buy it. if its "range ammo" them this is for idiots since i can buy fmjs cheaper.
@@GodsChosen69 sure, much better FMJ ammo for cheap, but this isn't FMJ and it's an option for those who want a lead free ammo indoors. I don't have any more of the ammo to do further tests on by the way.
Recoil caused by your spring your spring looks weak it does not make my 19 snap like that 😭
I use a lighter recoil spring (12lb) in the X-Five for competition lol sorry for the disclaimer.
I would like to see this on some ballistic gel. Also, the projectile seems frangible?
Yes, unfortunately I don't have any ballistics gel. As this channel grows, hopefully the funds will help support the purchase of some gel, or I might be able to make some home made gel. Yes, the ammo seems frangible, but I didn't check it to see if I saw frangible pieces at the steel target. Obviously against steel, it would break up like the lead bullets, but I know what you mean.
