I’m a US Navy Submarine Veteran, and I did 8 patrols on the USS Pennsylvania SSBN 735 submarine. Each patrol lasted approximately 82 days, and only once in my 9 years in the Navy, did I step onboard a surface vessel. I’m sorry to say, but I don’t remember the name of it…all I can remember is it was an aircraft carrier and it was at Bremerton Naval Base. About 10 guys off my submarine (including me) were invited by a crew member on the carrier to have lunch. My time on the surface fleet was about 1 hour. I remember being overwhelmed at the size of the ship, and asking the surface sailor how do you find your way around? He said first you find your bunk, then the nearest head, followed by your divisional space, and go from there! It’s funny, but at the very beginning of this video, you mentioned you served in the US Navy (thank you for your service), and that you would never have been able to serve on a submarine. I don’t think I would have been able to serve on a surface ship, especially after my exposure and experience with submarines. Completely different lifestyles and while submariners and surface sailors may share some traditions, there’s many that are exclusive to our respective communities. Excellent job with the video, and even though I’ve seen the USS Nautilus before, it was prior to me being qualified in submarines. Now, as a Submarine Veteran, I plan on going back to the USS Nautilus with a deeper appreciation and understanding.
ETV2(SS) Glenn Scroggins
How ironic. My first duty station was the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) in Bremerton, WA… I did 7 years. Got out as an AO2 (AW)
@@vtorres7682 That’s the name of the carrier! When did you serve? I was in from Aug 21, 2001 to Dec 14, 2010.
@music4ever1981 i served from July 00 - Nov 07… on the Vinson from Nov 00 - Nov 04. Transferred to Guam after that
On my way there now
"Knee Knocker" !!! ha ha ha... Great job man. I went to Sub school in '79 - I was a Missile Tech (MT) My brother served on NR-1 on display out front. You are so right about the smell, always takes us back. The 'museum' back then was one room and a library. This is a huge improvement, so glad to see it. Thanks for making and posting this - I'll have to visit it.
Thanks man. It’s worth a visit for sure
served on the nautilus 1977-1978.
Great video! Thanks!
Good job. I did not realize that the compartments were sealed off with plexiglass like that. I have been on a few WW2 subs.... you can get into the spaces, and really look at things.
Thank you
Thanks for the the video I’m definitely going to take the family there now that I see how great that place looks. We are going next weekend
Nice, enjoy it
I believe the uss Bainbridge was the first surface warship necular powered.
I served on three 616 class of US Submarines.
we are a special breed!. I served on the nautilus . 1977-1978. she was retired in 1980. god bless you! only the best and bravest serve on a United States submarine! 64 years old and proud to be AN AMERICAN!
Good short little documentary of this piece of modern history my boy! Keep up the good work. I can you going places if you continue pumping out more quality videos like this one!
Cheers
700s here!
I’m at submarine prototype in Charleston, they didn’t design em for comfort, lol. Do they have any of the engine room on display here? I’d love to see how it was laid out compared to the 688 class I’m learning on.
At the time I went, unfortunately no part of the engine room was accessible
Any residual radiation readings ?
Uhh, no... actually you come nowhere near the reactor in this museum
I think they have spoiled it with all that glass.
You still get a close up feel to it. I figure they wanna preserve everything that’s there. I wish more of the sun was open to visitors
Cool vid man! Hey is it just me or was that Jason Mamoa in the start of the vid on that gun? It's nice to see celebrities touring museum ships!
RickDomZeke lol, that’s my brother, he gets that a lot
@@vtorres7682 That's cool! He should enter a look-a like contest! He would win for sure! I see you were in the Navy! Thank you for your service! I hope you do more of these Navy boats in the future! Maybe you can do the Intrepid in New York!
RickDomZeke thank you, yes I have more planned
