@@jennifermountaingirl The clam shell has always been problematic to get home because the liquid can spill over the side as it sloshes around. When I bought them in the clam shell, I would take a sheet of newsprint and line the bottom of a small cardboard box and set the clamshell down on that. with the sides of the newsprint folded so it goes up the sides of the box a little bit, no liquid can escape before it is soaked up. After going to the plastic bag, the chickens became much easier to get home with regards to spilling.
I get 1 each time I go to Sam’s or Costco. The one from Sam’s you got was shockingly burnt!! I’ve never seen one like that. The Costco one looked bigger & better. But for my taste, I like the Sam’s chickens better. You can’t go wrong with $5 chickens already cooked!! Plus comparing these to say Kroger or Meijer chickens it’s so shocking the much smaller size and larger price 😊
I think comparisons are always fun! As far as packaging goes, either one is fine with me, my first thought was the clam shell packaging would keep the chicken from getting smashed by my other groceries. I’d love to see more comparison videos❤️ Have a blessed weekend🙏🥰
Big fan of rotisserie chicken, but I'm one of the few people that doesn't like Costco chicken. I've Googled the best rotisserie chicken, and I agree. It's Safeway or Vons, depending where you live. 🍴
Comparing Sam's Club and Costco chickens was a great idea! Have you guys ever compared Sam's Club's apple pie with Costco's apple pie? That would be great too!
We love SAM's Rotisserie Chicken. My wife and I can easily get 3 meals out of one and occasionally even a little chicken salad. Then I put all the scraps in a pot of water & boil for 20-30 minutes - GREAT chicken stock.
My husband and I get at least 6 meals out of a chicken... I make everything from chicken salad, to enchiladas, to chicken spaghetti, to ...well, you name it. These rotisserie chickens are a great value for home cooks. It's not that we can't roast our own chickens, but the Sam's and Costco birds are ready cooked, inexpensive. and high quality !!
Great video! I loved your 'Littles' gathering for the poultry feast. ❤ Keep doing what you do. It's fun to watch & you keep me company as a full time caregiver. 😊 Happy February to you both. 🎉
I recently joined Costco and I'm addicted to the roasted chickens. Meals for a week for myself and little pooch. I de-bone, put the meat in zip bags, crisp the skin for an hour or so in slow (toaster) oven for small doggie treats, and make stock with the bones & juices. Imo there isn't a better bargain in town. Grocery store roasted chickens are $8+ and dry. Even the bones make terrible tasting stock, don't know why. Where I live in So Cal we have THREE Costcos just minutes away. I've never even seen a Sam's Club. Good video. 1st time here. 👍
It makes me so sad that people really believe the chicken skin is unhealthy. Chicken skin is as healthy for you as the chicken is. As healthy as anything you eat. The idea that chicken skin should not be eaten comes from the very outdated notion that fat is bad for us. Meat fat, aka, saturated fat is absolutely necessary for a healthy body! Eat the skin, eat the fat, eat the meat!
Great comparisons! We have a Sam’s Club nearby and their chickens are always undercooked. It’s a must we cook in the oven first. After eating the dark meat, we use the white meat for chicken salad. Yummy!
@@jennifermountaingirl I've gotten an undercooked one at Costco... though not often. So much depends on a correct thermostat and the staff's experience. A few days before Christmas, there was an unruly crowd of people crowding around Costco's cooking area, waiting for a batch of Costco's chickens to be put out. I'm sure the workers removed them from the rotisserie ovens too soon. The chicken was barely browned and later at home when I wriggled the thigh loose, I saw pooled blood in the leg joint. Nope, I'm not serving that !! I was not happy at having to re-heat the oven, bake it for another 15 minutes, dirtying up a baking pan, before carving and serving. Please, Costco, Sam's, use a thermometer to test for doneness before packaging and putting the chickens out for sale.
Happy Saturday Jen & Rich! Loved the comparisons!! I don't have a Costco near by, but have heard of both. Been wondering how Sam's rotisserie chicken is. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on these. Much love from Nature Coast of Florida. 💕🙏🌴🌴🙏💕
Costco and Sam's are the same to me and I remove the skin to save on fat and calories. We have a no to very little salt home. Health reasons. Everyone is different. We enjoy them all here and there.
I don't have much of a rather, it's mostly either/or - I do prefer the clamshell packaging though. I disagree about the skin not being worth anything though - I take all the trimmings (including skin) as I de bone them and put into a pot of water with some seasoning veggies and slow cook all day long, then strain and discord what solids are left. I love the bone broth and use in so many dishes. I take most of the solid fat off and give to our chickens - especially good for them in the wintertime. Either is well worth the five bucks we pay for them.
We only have a Sam’s and I always pick up one of the cheap rotisserie chickens when I go there. Delicious and moist, not burned like yours. Best rotisserie chicken in town!
I wondered why you would buy a chicken that was burnt on one side> That would signal to me that the chicken might be overdone and dry. Good comparison though. Enjoyed it. Thanks.
Love watching your videos! So funny, we just finished a rotisserie chicken from ShopRite tonight as I sat down to watch your comparison of chickens. ShopRite was 7.99!, and it was the same size as cosco . As per your question, I like the bag better than the clamshell. It’s easier to transport plus we never store the leftover chicken in the store container. We always store in a Tupperware or glass container
Yes! I love hot dogs also. I would love to see a comparison between the two. Since we don't have a Costco in our town yet, I have to say I love Sam's Club chicken. Keep up the good work!
as far as packaging, I prefer the clamshell. But one of my biggest beefs is when the chicken doesn’t appear to be completely cooked. I will usually go home and stick it in the air fryer or the oven and it crisps up the skin and then I’m sure that the chicken is completely cooked.
Wow. Where I live they overcook and I have to stop them. Every store is different. Management is different. Some people are smart and think on their own and others not. The rotisserie rods are very long and built for optimum production. However the chickens on each end do not cook at the same rate. I only take from the center out. And weigh them.
I'm not surprised Sam's was your least favorite since that one was burnt. I've never had Costco but I buy Sam's chicken frequently and they're delicious. I've never seen them burnt like that. The price is fantastic considering a raw chicken of the same weight costs $16 in our local grocery store. Love your channel!
@@kaycampbell8532 Everything is expensive now. And the price difference between between the rotisserie chicken and raw chicken is that great, I would go with the rotisserie chicken every time.
I take the skin off, put it all in the air fryer, about 15 minutes…..crunchy like chips! Chicken, I debone, put in baggies to freeze. Take meat scraps and bones in chicken broth, veggies, and voila…..soup….that can also be frozen!
I have a Sam's clamshell in my container cabinet. I don't get there very often. When I roast my own chicken it stores nicely in the c.s. packaging. So... chicken sandwiches, chicken Alfredo, chicken pot pie, chicken ah la king, chicken salad, chicken fajita, chicken Kiev, and of course the bones and juice give you chicken soup. You folks will be eating well for a while.
This was the first time I have watched you guys, I really enjoyed watching you. I have been a customer at both Costco and Sams. I always loved Costco chicken the most. Love the skin. I will add my name to your program.
I buy both and have never had a problem with either one. I tear them apart and put in baggies then store in freezer. I use them for many chicken dishes like chicken enchiladas, chicken mole, chicken Alfredo, chicken pot pie, creamy chicken and noodles with garlic and mushrooms, chicken soup with dumplings, chicken tacos, or just a plain chicken sandwich and so much more . I don't care about the packaging. ❤
Great video! I always snack on the wings while slicing it for our meal😂. Lately my family eats half and uses the rest for potpie. ❤ thanks again for sharing
Just clicked on your video. Thanks for the comparison. I have Sam's clubs and sometimes find they are undercooked. I typically go for the darker ones hopefully to ensure doneness.
Good cheesecake is expensive because there's really no fillers... just the main expected ingredients... lots of cream cheese, of course. I actually prefer to make or buy plain and add my own toppings when serving. I like to use fresh fruit compotes or quality preserves are wonderful. Instead of fruit, an easy to prepare caramel drizzled over is great, or maybe some brown sugar, buttery crumbles. Or, try some candied coconut topping.... truly hundreds of possibilities.
Salt is one thing and a valid comparison . But about the rest, it varies a lot if the chickens at Costco look like yours did or look more like the Sam's did with dark burned areas. Sometimes they leave them in after the alarm goes off for another 10-15 minutes if they are busy or other factors contribute to a big difference in how well done they are, like if some were closer to the "flame." So you can get dark ones from Costco too. Sometimes the wings are like wood they are so well done and sometimes very juicy. I always look for more undercooked ones and stand there waiting for one because they are more moist. So its hard to compare on that basis. That's just about Costco only because we don't have Sam's at all. But you can see a whole batch that looks like the Sam's one, and decide to wait for the next batch, and it's like the Costco one you had.
I was waiting on someone to do a comparison video on who had the best chicken: Costco or Sam’s. I’m glad you came across my timeline. There’s no comparison here: Sam’s Club has the BEST tasting rotisserie chicken! It’s well-seasoned and cooked; you can’t go wrong with it. Costco’s, on the other hand, needs a little bit more seasoning or marinade because it tastes like bland meat and doesn’t add to soups or salads. IMO. The packaging is not important to me. Good review!
I got a Costco chicken last week and found it to be pretty small. With all the groceries and the long trip home being in the bag it got beat up a little. I usually always buy Sam’s. I take the skin off and put it in the Air Fryer to crisp it up since that’s the best part of the whole chicken. The Costco one is seasoned and they don’t do a plain one anymore either.
Great video! Looks like y’all are getting in good practice for those cruise ship buffets! The cheescake looks sooooo good. The lemon blueberry loaf cake at Costco is outstanding too. Got one last week.
Another great video in the test kitchen! We have a Sam's nearby but choose to drive farther to Costco since that is what we are used to. That cherry cheesecake looked delicious! Hubs and I might need to go and get one! Can't wait for the hotdog video. Not much can beat a $1.50 lunch. Have a great weekend you two!
That cheesecake has many more servings than eight!!! I think the chickens are pretty much the same. I enjoy your videos a lot. Much love from California.
Hubby and I do the same freezer method for our cheesecake from Costco. I have a few left in the freezer now. I live 2 minutes from Costco. Hubby goes a couple days a week.
I was not happy when Costco changed to the bags but I now prefer the bag. We eat what we want and then roll any leftovers up in the bag, secure with a piece of tape and put it in the freezer. When I have a few I put them in a stock pot and make soup or chicken and dumplings.
I like the clamshell packaging better, but I can handle the bag for the sake of the environment. I like Costco’s chicken better than Sam’s, but I like most things at Costco better than Sam’s. I’ve had memberships at both, so I have no reason to choose one over the other…..other than the fact that I prefer the quality of Costco over Sam’s. Those chickens may have been the same weight, but the one definitely looked bigger. A fun product comparison. Thank you!!
I have a membership with both. I prefer Sam’s rotisserie chicken over Costco’s. Sam’s has that brine flavor and Costco’s is a little too greasy for me. I use them for soups or add to my dog’s food. After the first day doesn’t taste that great. Actually, the supermarket rotisserie chickens are smaller and have more flavor. Thanks for the comparison.
Cardholder with Sams club for years, but Costco in my opinion has better in store prepared food, I mean very flavorful to the fullest, from the meatloaf and Yukon mashed potatoes dinner, chili, giant pot pies, and my coworkers love the muffins I gift them every so often for breakfast
Sam’s sells the hot dogs in the freezer section that they serve at the restaurant area. They’re so good. Put them on the grill. DELICIOUS! Love all that you do and you’re great at it. ❤️🌹
I've gotten my partner to go to Costco and he's had a hot dog before 930am before😅. I just sit and watch with amazement. I tell him that a 57yo doesn't need mystery meat in a bun that early! When my kids were younger(now 30, 31 and 32) i used to bribe them with either breakfast or lunch out depending on the time of day. More often then not McDonald's 😅 That being said, men are like giant kids when it cones to the Costco food court. Sadly we don't have Sam's Club here. Ty for another great video!
Loved this comparison video, Costco is my favorite rotisserie chicken thanks for sharing the Cheesecake from Costco I have not tried it yet because its expensive, glad to know its very delicious!! 👌😋😋😋🍗🍗

I've had both Sams & Costco's rotisserie chicken. *Sam's Club* is my favorite; they're better seasoned, has better flavor and is more moist. I also think Sam's hot dogs are better than Costco. HOWEVER.... Costco's chocolate mousse cake is much better than Sam's chocolate cake. So addicting!
You guys make me hungry for chicken only thing in my area there’s no Sam’s club it’s like 35 miles away from me only costcos in my area and 10 miles in either direction so we have Safeways I get out chickens there in the plastic bags and is goof moist and meaty . Both chicken looked good. Thanks for comparing the 2 from different stores. Keep doing this in your kitchen. We enjoy watching you and Rich cooking and experimenting. Enjoy your cruise!! 🚢. I have very close friends left today (2-1) for 7 days going to same places as you are…I think 🤔.
The Costco was huge! Wish we had that store close. I'm addicted to rotisserie chickens but our Food City and Kroger chickens seem smaller than what you got. Love you both. Please pray for us...God knows.
I like the Sams packaging you can reuse it for like cookies or to give a meal to go in it. I wouldn't do that with the bag from Costco. I really enjoy this type of content along with your reviews on going out to dinner.
First I want to say I really enjoy your videos. Ive seen your kitchen so many times I feel like we're neighbors. Rotisserie chicken is one of my favorites. Not just bcz its so good but bcz of all the options after first meals with leftovers. Soups, tamales, salad. I order mine from Walmart because i have a free delivery plan with them. I've noticed that their chickens have gotten plumper in the past year. Isn't Wal-Marts the same as Sam's Club?
Been buying Sam’s chickens for years. Don’t know if this is company wide but our local store replaced their rotisserie ovens with air fryer ovens. They didn’t taste the same at first but they worked on the seasoning and there’s not much difference now taste wise. Also all chickens don’t weigh the same so I always like to pick the biggest one available. Can’t beat $4.98!
We love the Sams rotisserie chicken. We just got a couple of Costcos here where I live but haven't been there yet. I think their membership fee is too high compared to Sams and Sams has everything we need in a warehouse store. And from what I hear the Costcos are a madhouse with no place to park and can take forever just to check out. Can't beat Sams scan and go. My wife and I can usually get 3 meals out of one Sams rotisserie chicken.
You guys have a fun channel :) We just discovered it. We had a channel but only do small stuff on the side (treasure hunt foodies) but love the Smokey Mountains and Gatlinburg especially, and we camp when we're not living in south america. Anyway, if you guys do 4 episodes a week you'll blow up even more. God Bless, James and Kim 😊
I really hate the new bags that Costco uses. I love the cartons that Sam's uses and sure hope they continue with them. I have memberships to both stores so regularly get chickens from both. Sometimes Sam's has been better, and sometimes Costco has been better.
Hi guys, like your channel. My wife and I watch all the time. Ironically, we just did a visual comparison of the chickens this week at each store. In our area, we found Sam's Club to have larger chickens than Costco. We have eaten both in the past, and although they are very close, both my wife and I felt the Costco chicken seemed slightly undercooked. In the end (and overall), we both chose Sam's over Costco. Besides, Sam's is a penny cheaper!! lol Keep up the great videos!
I like Costco’s new packaging better, because it was difficult to hold hot chicken in the plastic clam-shell container. I am a big fan of their rotisserie chicken and their desserts. May I also recommend their 12-piece ciabatta bread in a bag. So delicious!
I loved this video. We have Sam's and Costco and usually buy a chicken every other week. I use it for my lunches and recipes and feel either one is a great budget stretcher. Hope you are enjoying the cruise.
I went shopping to Costco this past Thursday. I always buy a rotisserie chicken when I go but they didn't have a single chicken on the cart. That is the first time that ever happened. I decided to do my shopping in other parts of the store and then came back again, around 20 minutes later, but still no chickens. I guess I just hit it wrong that day. Anyway, you can't go wrong with their chickens, especially for the price.
I like the clam shell much better than the bag. I repurpose them for seed starting.
Good thinking!!

So you can get dark ones from Costco too.
It’s too bad they don’t do plain ones anymore.
Great video! Looks like y’all are getting in good practice for those cruise ship buffets! The cheescake looks sooooo good. The lemon blueberry loaf cake at Costco is outstanding too. Got one last week.
Those are awesome. When I don't feel like baking, I pick up a couple for the kids at work.
Oh man, I love the cruise ship buffets! I have not tried the lemon blueberry loaf, but I have been tempted several times!
We are so glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks!!
I tried your pea salad with the bacon bits from Costco and it was a hit! And, as you suggested, put the bacon in freezer. Thanks so much, Jen!❤
That’s awesome, that actually makes me very happy!
I use to love Boston Market’s rotisserie chicken
That cheesecake has many more servings than eight!!! I think the chickens are pretty much the same. I enjoy your videos a lot. Much love from California.
That’s so nice, thank you!
Yes definitely, 12 at least, LOTS of cheesecake!
Thanks you just made me hungry and I have had some of that chicken
I’m all for the Costco bag. The handles make them easy to carry and put into bags. The clamshells leak if you tip them too much.
That is so true!
Hey! What a fun video. Thanks for sharing. I could eat chicken 7 days a week.
Thanks for watching! 😊
You are so right about the prepared food!
Sam’s sells the hot dogs in the freezer section that they serve at the restaurant area. They’re so good. Put them on the grill. DELICIOUS! Love all that you do and you’re great at it. ❤️🌹
Thanks for the tip!
That was fun! All good information. Thank you!
Thanks for watching!😊
Love this video, but I'm Sam's club rotisserie chicken all the way ❤
Me too!
Great idea, Rich!! Interesting since I have a rotisserie chicken in the fridge. But the cheesecake was pure torture watching y’all consuming it! 😊
It was sooo good!!
Loved this comparison video, Costco is my favorite rotisserie chicken thanks for sharing the Cheesecake from Costco I have not tried it yet because its expensive, glad to know its very delicious!! 👌😋😋😋🍗🍗
You should try it! It’s so good! Just freeze the extra slices!!
@@jennifermountaingirl Thanks for this tip for freezing, its just my hubby and I like you guys and it's great to know it freezes well! 😋👍👍👍
I think the plate with the burnt chicken wing tip would be a clue as which one is which. Sam's had that burnt side.
We honestly tried to be as fair and impartial as we could!
We live in California and we like the Sam’s club chicken better. The Costco chicken has a metal taste and on the dry side thanks for the review
Good to know!
I just love your Yorkie. It's adorable.
Thanks so much!
This was a fun video! Thank you!
Thanks for watching!🥰❤️
You guys have outdone yourself very good video and helpful I just joined Sam's and have not had there chicken yet due to Rottsare chicken oven has been broken down since Christmas love the Cheesecake Ideas also so you put in plastic freezer bags good Idea 💡 hey keep videos like this coming I just recently lost my wife and it's hard for me to keep going so I am thankful for you videos she died all of a sudden at home I miss her terrible and your video's with your pleasant interacting with each other brighten my day bless you both
I'm so sorry for your loss 😕.I hope our videos can continue to bring you joy! I hope they get your Sams oven fixed soon! God Bless you..❤️❤️
Love your show about food 🎉
Thanks!!
Great video! Looking forward to the hotdog video sometime. 😊
That is definitely on the list!
I love the chocolate mousse cake!
You guys make me hungry for chicken only thing in my area there’s no Sam’s club it’s like 35 miles away from me only costcos in my area and 10 miles in either direction so we have Safeways I get out chickens there in the plastic bags and is goof moist and meaty . Jen I love your voice watched this video twice it hit me your voice reminds me of Paula dean’s voice!!! Which I loved watching til the shows all canceled her out!!! Which was b.s. just subscribed to your channel because of this and love your voice have a blessed night ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks! I love Paula Dean too!
I love the taste of Sam's club rotisserie chicken better.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Both chicken looked good. Thanks for comparing the 2 from different stores. Keep doing this in your kitchen. We enjoy watching you and Rich cooking and experimenting.
Enjoy your cruise!! 🚢. I have very close friends left today (2-1) for 7 days going to same places as you are…I think 🤔.
That's so funny, maybe we are on the same cruise!
@ they left from Miami, boarded at 12:30 and sailed away at 4:00.
The Costco was huge! Wish we had that store close. I'm addicted to rotisserie chickens but our Food City and Kroger chickens seem smaller than what you got. Love you both. Please pray for us...God knows.
Prayers are coming your way! 🙏
Great concept for a video! I’m super intrigued to see who wins!!!
Thanks!!😊
Fun video, thank you.
You are so welcome!
I like the Sams packaging you can reuse it for like cookies or to give a meal to go in it. I wouldn't do that with the bag from Costco. I really enjoy this type of content along with your reviews on going out to dinner.
That's a great idea to reuse the clamshell packaging!
Yes it is. A bunch of folks said they really like Walmart chickens- we will have to try them.
Great video. Cheesecake looked amazing. Great tip on freezing the rest for later.
It’s definitely a delicious way to use up the leftovers!
We have been saying the same thing about Costco!! They are definitely a zoo! We need to try that scan and go!
Thank you, I enjoyed your analysis. You are a cute couple.
Love the comparison. I like Cosco better too. Also like the bag better for environmental reasons but also for fitting in the fridge:)
I know what you mean! 😊
Thanks for the blessings and support! We are so glad you enjoy our videos!
So glad you made this video. We love rotisserie chicken!
I could eat it every day!
I have not had Sam's, but I really like Costco. I buy 2 or 3 at a time. It's 45 minute drive from where I live.
100% agree. Costco has better pre-prepared food! Thanks for the taster test!
We loved doing the taste test!
I really hate the new bags that Costco uses. I love the cartons that Sam's uses and sure hope they continue with them. I have memberships to both stores so regularly get chickens from both. Sometimes Sam's has been better, and sometimes Costco has been better.
I 💯 agree, it could really vary week to week!
Thanks for the comparison! So interesting to hear your results!
I like Costco’s new packaging better, because it was difficult to hold hot chicken in the plastic clam-shell container. I am a big fan of their rotisserie chicken and their desserts. May I also recommend their 12-piece ciabatta bread in a bag. So delicious!
LOVE the Ciabatta bread!
First I got to say. I love your little fur babies. So cute
They are such sweet babies!!
I much prefer Sam’s chicken vs Costco!
Good tip thank you
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching! 😊
They both look delicious to me!
They were
I vote for the Costco one because I have always bought that and kudos to them making the bag reclosable and with less plastic!
I like Sam's package better because I can see what I'm buying better!
I do miss the clam shell packaging, now I always get grease all over my fingers when I handle the Costco packaging.
It was a little messy, but we got over it! 😂
I prefer the bag because it is easier to fit in the ice chest that I carry in the car.
Yes, for sure!
Good point.
I want rotisserie chicken and it's only 10:30 am!!! Luckily Costco is just down the street. Thank you for an easy dinner idea!!!
You are so welcome! Thanks for joining us!😊❤️
We have lunch at Costco ... just by going after 11:30 when all the free food stands are up. "Our" Costco has LOTS of free samples!
Our is always sooooo crowded, don’t get many samples!
I loved this video. We have Sam's and Costco and usually buy a chicken every other week. I use it for my lunches and recipes and feel either one is a great budget stretcher. Hope you are enjoying the cruise.
I’m glad you liked the video! We got here today and we are all settled in and ready to start relaxing!
