Yeah you can't grow one for 5 bucks but they are the super fast 8 week growing birds grown in huge grow houses so tracker raised taste better or even a heritage breed the takes a month longer has a different taste for sure
raw leg quarters and thighs are kind of a better deal, but it's not far off. it's a similar deal with red baron and little caesars hot and ready pizzas. the red baron is slightly cheaper, but you have to cook it.
I LOVE Costco’s rotisserie chicken! The most valuable part for our family is the breast. I slice it like you do then batter the slices with SELF RISING flour and milk mixture then fry them. Since the meat is fully cooked all I’m doing is cooking the batter. The meat is soooooo juicy. My family loves this! AND I haven’t had to stand over the skillet so long. The dark meat is great in a Mexican pollo con calabasa (chicken and rice) or stir fry.
I am definitely team Costco! These box stores are pretty much the same and it gets down to the people who work there. Costco pays and treats there employees very well and if you ask anybody that works at Costco a question like where can I find a certain product they will drop what they are doing and help you. You can tell that all the people who work at Costco are happy working there and nobody quits their job and that’s impressive in this day of corporate America runs everything. As far as the rotisserie chicken goes my dog never complains when I bring one home and either do I.
My Dad put himself through college working as a butcher and he taught me about the oysters - it was hard to get him to share, but he did. They are tasty!!
I like both stores, BUT.... when it comes to the rotisserie chickens, my Sam's Club's chicken is hands down better than the one at Costco. Why? Because it's cooked properly. It takes effort to pull apart a Costco chicken. Too much effort, frankly. There shouldn't be so much 'snap', if you know what I mean. Sam's are cooked just right. They easily pull apart yet they're not falling apart. Don't have to fight 'em at all. The Costco is just 2.4 miles from me, but I'm not a member. Sam's Club is 5.6 miles away, and I'm happy to drive the extra miles because I ALWAYS get a chicken when I visit. Damn. Now I'm hungry.
The feral cats I feed would agree. They devour Sam's Club rotisserie chicken while hesitating to eat Costco chicken. One would think a feral cat wouldn't be partial to either, yet they are.
So cool you have a sponsor! We are a Costco household. After the way Walmart has treated me and any of my family who've worked for them I buy from them only if I have to. It's the culture company-wide because I worked at a store in a whole different town from my family. Costco pays well and respects their teams. I love that they're closed on holidays so employees can be with their families. A highschool friend has worked at a Costco up north for over a decade. There's employees at my local Costco who've been there as long as I've shopped there. They're so friendly and always happy to help. I like the selection better than Sam's and Kirkland products are so much better than the Walmart house brands these days.
I freeze the bones and when i have 2 1-gallon bags saved, i get out the stock pot. Add onion, celery, garlic, pepper, and salt. Simmer for a couple hours and when cool, put in the refrigerator over night. Next day, skim the fat off the top and you end up with the richest chicken bone broth ever! Chicken noodle soup, chicken and dumplings, etc. I always have enough broth to freeze in 2 cup portions for those recipes needing chicken broth. I get my $5 worth out of a Sam's Club rotisserie chicken!
I do something very similar, difference is that make my stock/broth in my insta pot [ 90 minutes, for me means extra flavor] .. between the meat itself for meals & the broth.. it is the best value going
They are so tender you can pull it completely apart without using a knife at all as long as the bird is still warm. I always debone mine as soon as I get home, freezing what I'm not going to use right away.
Every Sunday after Church our Family stops at Sam’s. We get our usual groceries with a Rotisserie chicken and a whole Pizza and sometimes a Sundae from the snack shop. Our two teenagers love Sam’s Sunday. You can’t buy a whole chicken for the price of Sam’s or Costco’s rotisserie chicken. Best deal around for a Family.
And I used to be an Assistant Manager at KFC way back in the 80s so I know how they cut chicken. I still use that style today. But I also grew up on a farm with chickens.
Great idea for a video! When I buy my Costco chicken, I sometimes find bright red juice (blood?) at the joint between the thigh and the hip. The meat is rubbery there. Is that cooked enough? Lately, I've been picking smaller, more cooked ones that don't seem to have the problem.
My wife and I belong to both stores but I buy my rotisserie chicken from Sam’s Club. Not really sure why but that’s what we do. Keep up the videos. I’m really enjoying your work for all the working people.
Team Sam's Club, I really appreciate you showing how to cut up the chicken, will start doing this from now on. I make soup, gumbo, chicken salad, chicken makes a very tasty gravy for mashed potatoes, add a salad or vegetables, rolls and you have a great meal under 30 minutes. Sam's gas prices are usually the least expensive. Thanks so much for the video
For Rotisserie Chicken... TEAM SAM's is Better, Bigger, Seasoned Best, cooked through better. The "Oyster is like the "Cheeks" on a Walleye. Best little chunk of meat on the whole bird/fish... that is the carvers Snack... lol
I prefer the flavor of Sam's rotisserie chicken and I can get in and out of the store easier. I have gone in there for just chicken in the past. I would never go to into my local Costco for the sole purpose of getting chicken. It's too hard to find parking and the store gets very crowded. I will fight the crowds at Costco if I am low on coffee. They have an unbeatable deal on Jose's Organic coffee beans. TFS
I’ve tried both and I find that Costco‘s rotisserie chicken taste better and more moist and tender. Sam’s Club has a different taste and that it’s good, but it’s slightly tough and dry
I didn't even know you had a video showing how to carve a chicken until I saw the short and found out there was a full version in the comments. I think you will get many views if you posted a dedicated video on breaking down the bird since its something people search often.
I am definitely team Costco! Love the way Costco treats their employees! Every time I go to Costco I have a amazing experience. #CostoEmployeesGoTheExtraMile
Moved up to Washington state from the south, so no more access to Sam's Club for some reason; all in on Costco. We got the rotisserie chicken a couple of times, but my family didn't care for the taste and consistency. It was kind of like flavorless boiled meat. They also didn't seemed to be cooked all of the way through. However for the price, I have started throwing it on the grill and smoking them with indirect heat. They do not get super smokey, as they are already cooked, but adds great flavor, keeps the moisture, and takes care of any uncooking. The smoke flavor is more pronounced as leftovers; you may even develop a newfound love for cold chicken.
They closed Washington Sam's Club stores after reviewing the company portfolio and in an effort to better manage resources. The cost of maintaining its clubs in Washington is also higher because of the distance from the company's distribution centers. The quality of product at Costco is superior in every way. Not sure how you got a true rotisserie chicken tasting like a boiled chicken. If you thought it didn't cook all the way through, you may be used to overcooked chicken.
Heh heh heh - yeah, we know why the rotisserie chicken is at the back of the store, but what price are those grills? 😆 Same thing at my store a few days ago, and I just bought a grill on sale last Fall!
We only have a Sam’s club in our town. A bunch of the Walmart family (Sam’s family) live in this area so we have more Walmarts than we need. I doubt Costco would even get a chance here but I like going to one with a family member who has a member card but it’s nearly 3 hours away and that’s a 6 hour round trip not worth having the membership in that case. If they had one close by I would go!
Every time I get a chicken at Sams, it never seems completely done. Always looks a bit under cooked . Now that we have a COSTO membership I plan on getting a rotisserie chicken for comparison.
Bought one tonight and I’m returning it tomorrow 😂 I snapped off a drumstick and there’s was a pool of shiny blood where the joint broke off I know they say it’s normal to see red liquid even after 90 mins of roasting but he’ll to the nah I’m super uncomfortable w it lol 🍗🩸
I have never had a good rotisserie chicken or a good chicken pot pie from Costco. I don't like the texture of Costco chicken and my cats won't even eat it. Maybe this depends on the location but they serve the blandest chicken I have ever had in my life and I would probably get a rotisserie anywhere else but there. My grocery store has a far more flavorful rotisserie than Costco's. When I go to Costco's I can count on no seasoning, light beige skin, and I have never seen carmelization on a Costco chicken like the one in your video. The 3 Sam's Clubs that I go to in my area do a fairly good job of seasoning the rotisserie with that Lawyr's seasoning and it is so good that you can taste it from the skin to the meat. They also cook them until the meat is falling off the bone. Now this was not always the case but it is now. I love that dark, crispy seasoned skin.
I'm Team both, but when it comes to only Chicken then flavor wise definitely Sam's. I'm not sure what they put in their chicken but it is more flavorful.
Team Costco or team Sam's, actually I shop at both! Sam's is cheaper on cleaning supplies, dog food, and paper products, but I don't care for the quality of their meat, so I buy most meat items at Costco.
Surprised at his comment that Costcos chicken skin had very little seasoning on it. Ours usually has big gobs of seasoning which is way overbearing in flavor. 🥵
a huge problem i have had with sams chickens is that they are not fully cooked and not safe to eat.. if you dont mind finishing it at home then go for it but if you want a cooked chicken then walmart. ingles. food city is the way to go. smaller chicken higher price but it is cooked.. i have not had coscos and it could just be the sams club in my area but i have bought at least 8 of them and none were cooked even close to safe for eating
Love your videos. I'm Team costco all the way. Especially when it comes to the rotisserie chickens. My dogs also agree 😂. I also enjoy the excellent customer service which extends all the way through checkout. Sams chickens in GA are definately dryer and smaller. I also find that the seasoning is not as complimentary to the neat vs. Costco. Sams has fallen far and fast when it comes to customer service. All sams in GA has fallen to only 1 to 2 registers manned by a warm body during the day with all other registers being turned into self checkout. This is very difficult to utilize with a huge full cart and nowhere to place your items. They then have the nerve to make you endure a long line at the exit due to only having one person at the door vs. Costco with 2. I have been a sams member for 25 years and I have seen all of the disgusting ways they've cheapened everything since the beginning. Shame on sams as they still charge rediculous membership prices and take more from the customers consistently. The only reason I stay is because of convenience of Gas and paper products smh.
Because of kidney issues, I need to eliminate (as much as possible) phosphorus from my diet. Costco rotisserie chickens (read the ingredients label) contain added phosphorus, but Sams rotisserie chickens do not. The fewer added chemicals, the better.
I love barbeque chicken on the grill but with Sam's rotisserie chicken only $4.98 which is less than a whole chicken is I cannot get myself to waste time grilling one myself so Sam's chicken it is. As you can see I am team Sam but mainly because I love their scan n go feature. I shop every other month at Sam's. Must be at least15 years or maybe longer since I have been inside a Costco.
I like Bjs the most because I like to buy branded items, their deals on Butter and Kombucha blow Sam's and Costco out of the water. But when it comes to the Rotisserie Chicken, I like the taste of Sam's club the most. No contest. Bjs actually has the worst rotisserie chicken imo
Team sams club. Costco chicken is red around the bones and the meat does not fall off the bone. I’ve tried numerous times and no bueno for me. I’ve even brought home Costco chicken and put it in the oven. Even if u over cook it it still red around the bones and the meat is difficult to pull off the bones. My sister lives in Canada and she says the rotisserie chicken in Costco in Canada is the same. 0:02
That red stuff means the chickens were raised real fast the bones are thin because they were grown to butcher size real fast then they were frozen . The red stuff is the bone marrow oozing out of the thin bones , not harmful but not appetizing
tbh, I long ago got sort of tired of that distinctive 'saline/rotis' costco flavor, and also tired of how much of the dark meat seems to turn to much. My favorite is getting into my local kroger fairly early in the day, especially on weekends, and either getting their rotiss bird, or their cut up 'baked' chicken for around 5 bucks, day old in the open top fridge.
Team Costco. Several years ago Sam's reduced the size of their chickens. Costco chickens are noticeably larger and are the better value. I like the favor of both equally. The other is is Sam's over cooked the chickens more often. The. meat has a mushy texture when this happens.
Unfortunately I have no choice. Sam’s is 20 minutes away Costco is 2 hours away. Mostly I buy rotisserie chickens from my local Publix. The added bonus is that they come in a paper bag. I don’t like that so many convenience foods come in plastic containers.
When you buy these cooked chickens, how can you check for food safety? I mean, what was it fed? Was it injected with hormones and antibiotics and washed in bleach? What were its living conditions? I can certainly appreciate the convenience of using these chickens, esp as you saw they're tasty. Just how much information is on the label or available to the buyer? I'm watching from France where at the moment the European Union with its standardisation measures is weakening our high quality labels which quarantee a very high quality, grain fed, range free, no hormones, aged chicken. I've visited Washington State etc and found the Costo rotisserie chicken not bad at all.
Well to be fair... even with all those standards you named... chickens are not vegetarians. The need meat and bugs etc... feeding them grain only diet is animal cruelty too if you want to talk about ethics... I absolutely understand your desire for PASURE RAISED birds that live a great life, only one bad day etc... BUTTTTT there rotisserie birds are no different than 99% of the raw chicken on the shelf. So it's really not the same. You're not finding any of the PROPER chickens raised, food, foraging etc at a Costco or a sams...best you're going to find is organic...but even those have "bad things" too
I think the labels don't say much. It's just a a standard factory farmed animal. I'd never chiose to eat them regularly personally, but for a party it seems very convenient and I'll live with feeding lower quality / treated animals to one time guests.
I’ve eaten a lot of Costco chicken and it’s nothing special, just inexpensive. It’s good to use in chicken soup and chicken salad. I’ve actually had very good rotisserie chicken from Walmart but it costs almost double.
Team Sams but no longer Sams customer so have to settle for Costcos roasted chicken. Now we rarely have store bought roasted chicken. Just not that thrilled with Costco’s chicken.
Costco is better. Only once i got 2 undercooked chickens. It was embarrassing because i got them for a school special pot luck meal & had to trash them.
Sam's has some better selection in miscellaneous cooking items and the high value stuff like cheapo TP/plate/etc.(usually anyway), lower membership fees, the better rotisserie(better seasoning, more properly cooked, Costco chicken has overdone skin and breast IMHO). Costco has many tremendous food court and bakery items(Kirkland chicken bakes, pizza, croissants, and muffins are hard to beat) and is slightly better with the sucker items for their target demo of upper class moms. For me personally Costco is not in my state and my closest club is 100 miles further than Sam's and in my experience working at Walmart the popular claims that Costco is the best employer while Walmart/Sam's are the worst is greatly exaggerated. For me and my pocketbook it's Sam's no question.
I just renewed our membership to Costco. I’m not sure if I want to renew our Sam’s Club Membership or keep them both. I don’t see a reason to have both of them.
Honestly $5 for a fully cooked chicken that size is basically the best buy you can get. So easy to meal prep with those things
Absolutely! So many things you can make, I wholeheartedly agree!
Yeah you can't grow one for 5 bucks but they are the super fast 8 week growing birds grown in huge grow houses so tracker raised taste better or even a heritage breed the takes a month longer has a different taste for sure

I have memberships at both and prefer the less salty Costco chicken; it's never been undercooked, better texture and usually larger.

+6One thing you didn't mention is how close they are in weight. I may be wrong but I have the sense that Costco chickens are a bit larger.
They were pretty similar in size
And I used to be an Assistant Manager at KFC way back in the 80s so I know how they cut chicken. I still use that style today. But I also grew up on a farm with chickens.

If it is red that is not a good sign. You can put the whole thing in the oven to cook it more if that happens.
@@ButcherWizardI'll leave a comment at Costco next time I go. I've been sticking the bird in the barbecue, but it dries it out.
Same.
@@JohnPMiller poultry needs to be cooked to an internal temperature of 165F. It will still be juicy.

Great comparison and training to break down the chicken. Please consider using a remote mike (low volume).
They are both good. The KEY is that they are not dry. From time to time they are both dry.

Don't know why I'm watching, as I don't have a membership to either store, LOL!
I’ve tried both and I find that Costco‘s rotisserie chicken taste better and more moist and tender. Sam’s Club has a different taste and that it’s good, but it’s slightly tough and dry
nice try goofy cynthia, you confused both. Sam’s has a lot more juice, Cotsco has dryer chicken
Costco!!! All the way baby!!
My fav of all of the Chickens are Team Sam's most flavor I agree with you. Best hot dog combo though is Costco hands down.

How does the Skin stay crispy if it was on that warmer with a lid on the whole day trough?
It stays a little crispy. I sometimes will put it in the oven when I get home to crisp up the outside a little more.
@@ButcherWizard Yeah that makes sense. Great video as allways. Good that you pointed that important part out with the reusable Carcass!

Do the chickens both have the same amount of meat?
I have never even considered buying one, don’t know why but it seems weird when I have an oven, and can cook one how I like it at will !
It costs as much or more to buy a raw chicken than a rotisserie chicken at Costco.
I've bought these and canned the chicken for meals. Nice easy, flavorful prep.

Sam's ingredients: fully cooked whole young chicken without necks and giblets, contains up to 18% of a solution of water, sodium phosphates, seasoning (salt, yeast extract, natural flavors, chicken fat, chicken broth), spice rub (yellow corn flour, salt, spices, yellow corn flour, paprika [color], garlic, sugar, citric acid, onion, paprika oleoresin [color], natural flavors, colored with paprika)
Costco's ingredients: whole chicken, water, and seasonings (salt, sodium phosphate, modified food starch, potato dextrin, carrageenan, sugar, dextrose, spice extractives).
Team costco, thanks for the video :P
Team Costco in Carson City NV!
BJ’s chickens are enormous!
smart cut around wish bone
Sam’s club 100%
AG1 is an amazing product
Team Sams. One chicken dinner and one pot of chicken soup.
tbh, I long ago got sort of tired of that distinctive 'saline/rotis' costco flavor, and also tired of how much of the dark meat seems to turn to much. My favorite is getting into my local kroger fairly early in the day, especially on weekends, and either getting their rotiss bird, or their cut up 'baked' chicken for around 5 bucks, day old in the open top fridge.
👍 Team Costco
I prefer Costco chicken because Sam's has been undercooked too many times..I don't like blood running when I try to debone it
Costco is 3.5 hours away. Sam's is 30 minutes. Choice is not a problem.
Team SAM’S but I like Costco too. Sam’s is just down the street! Long way to Costco! I go to both.
Sams! Easily the best!
I'm team Sam's for convenience. I'm team Costco for variety. 😏🤣
I just renewed our membership to Costco. I’m not sure if I want to renew our Sam’s Club Membership or keep them both. I don’t see a reason to have both of them.
Definitely Costco
My dad feeds our huskies one of these a day
Sam’s!
I'm team Costco but for the roasteries chicken, Sam's' club makes it better.
Team costco
Team sam
Team BJs
Is AG 1 multi level marketing?
Mostly Team Costco but occasionally a Sam's shopper
Giant Eagle will always have the best rotisserie chicken it’s not a debate
Team Costco for me but do shop both lol
I don't have a Sam's so I am team Costco lol.
Our local Costco is 300 yards from our Sam’s club. I guess they like to go head to head.
Thanks for watching
@@ButcherWizard Interestingly, they both opened the same year. I still remember going to opening day at the very first Costco.
Costco all the way.
