"These attacks have 2 targets. One, internally within J&K. I wouldn't be surprised if part of this effort is to discredit the elected govt in Pakistan and to remove any possibility of normalising of relations between India and Pakistan," says former J&K CM Omar Abdullah.
Four Army personnel, including an officer, and a cop were killed during an encounter with heavily armed terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district on Monday. The attack was claimed by 'Kashmir Tigers', a shadow group of Pakistan-backed terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM).
"General Upendra Dwivedi, COAS, and all ranks of Indian Army convey their deepest condolences to the bravehearts Captain Brijesh Thapa, Naik D Rajesh, Sepoy Bijendra and Sepoy Ajay Naruka, who laid down their lives in the line of duty, while undertaking a counter terrorist operation in Doda in order to ensure peace in the region," the Army said in a statement.
The encounter took place when the troops of Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a joint cordon and search operation at Dhari Gote Urarbagi in Desa forest belt, some 55 km from Doda town, late Monday evening.
