Now I have a Model 3 and my wife has a Model Y that we charge for free at night with our electric plan. We have not paid for electricity since install and now we don't need to buy gas for cars. Charging at home or at work is far more convenient, but if you’re near supercharging locations, it’s still definitely doable. 👍🏼
The real question is when will we get vehicle to home (v2h) capabilities? We should be able to use the vehicle battery to supplement the powerwall battery during outages. One car is like 5 powerwalls.
@@suvari225 the cybertruck has that now but it's still really early. It can output 11.5 kw into their powerwall which is more than enough for a typical home during blackouts. So when they activate that will it be backward compatible, will it only work with newer vehicles since it needs to flow in two directions, or will they offer it as a dealer upgrade? They really need to release more details of their plan. I hope it can just be a software update and you have to install the home charger directly to the powerwall in order for them to communicate. I'd buy that powerwall right after the announcement. They need to rebrand their products as a Tesla Home bundle not just separate products.
Installed a 12kw solar panel system on our primary home in AZ back in 2016 (from Solar City which became Tesla). It paid for itself in Q4 of 2022 (over a year ago) still have 23 years of a full warranty (until 2046) on the solar panel system and inverters. Generates 85-90kw/day in summer (half that in winter). Figure that during those next 23 years it should save us about $70k in electricity (at current rates). Powers a 4k sq ft home where it can get to 115 degrees out in summer but keep it at 72 degrees indoors year-round. Also powers a 2023 Tesla Model Y LR (74kw battery for 330 miles of range, 7-seater). Planning to add another 12kw system on guest wing later this year with battery storage (possibly for a VPP) mainly for an eventual cybertruck and for some backyard development. In AZ (the real sunshine state), solar is the way to go.
Yep! We are really enjoying our solar system with the power wall - it is currently 8:41pm and the power wall is still powering our home from the solar charge it got today - every day this automagically discharging is saving us $ - not to mention the charge on solar for our splendid Model Y - life is good being a Tesla customer & I can’t help but like that all of these products are “Made by Humans - on Earth” - love it

Got Tesla solar and 2 powerwalls and it stopped working after 2 1/2 months. Took 6 months to get it back online due to layoffs and it has yet to reach its previous peak solar production. My utilities bill has only increased since… personally I think this is less on Tesla and more on the back door deals they had to make with PG&E to stay within California… Biggest purchase regret I’ve ever made… Their model Y is amazing tho, we love it.

Very similar experience. System has gone down twice in less than a year. Lapses in energy bills are insulting
