- Living on a lighted stage
Approaches the unreal
For those who think and feel
In touch with some reality
Beyond the gilded cage.
Cast in this unlikely role,
Ill-equipped to act,
With insufficient tact,
One must put up barriers
To keep oneself intact.
Living in the Limelight,
The universal dream
For those who wish to seem.
Those who wish to be
Must put aside the alienation,
Get on with the fascination,
The real relation,
The underlying theme.
Living in a fisheye lens,
Caught in the camera eye.
I have no heart to lie,
I can't pretend a stranger
Is a long-awaited friend.
All the world's indeed a stage,
And we are merely players,
Performers and portrayers,
Each another's audience
Outside the gilded cage.
If you've never seen Rush live, I feel bad for you. If you've seen them live then you understand that pain of knowing you'll never see them again! 😭
That last tour was rough.😢
All of that talent. All of that commitment. All of that creativity. All of that fame. All of that fortune. Yet the three guys never lost sight of being good people. Sad the trip is over. Happy and fortunate I was able to enjoy them live. Thank you Rush, and RIP Mr. Peart.
When 3 people play their instruments well and play without ego, magical.
I've been so fortunate to have seen them 22x is all, 1st time at Sacramento Memorial auditorium Nov 10 78.. Last time summer of '15.. Saw neil having breakfast at Herbs, May of 17.. I didn't dare let him know, that I knew him. In hindsight, I wish Ida given him a hug... I didn't know he was battling cancer. I love you RUSH..
It wasn't just how talented, creative, and tight they were - their humility and their desire to show their sense of humour with the inclusion of funny videos and chicken rotisseries behind Geddy on stage made them even more special. I grew up not far from these guys in Toronto, and had friends who knew them growing up! I'm old enough to have seen them all, and there's no better band in the history of music!
The best entertainment package ever formed! RUSH
As "The Professor" behind (and in front) a sizable 🎶 store's Percussion department's worth of
(continued from the previous reply) inventory; so transparently defined the the gift they have given to their legions of gratefull fans as "The Soundtrack of their lives!" Closer to YOUR ❤, eh?
Rush was one the first concerts I ever saw (Fleetwood Mac being my first concert at 14) and I was always in amazement at every concert. I loved the energy of the band and the crowd
Their concerts will always be one of my best memories.
Still so humble and never let fame go to their heads. No one will ever surpass the cerebral Neil Peart.
I must have heard this song a million times, but still brought a smile to my face....RIP Neil .......miss you !!!!
Such a sad day. RIP Professor. Love this concert. Grew up with them.
Actually I’m crying now because I love RUSH too much.
I’m happy that I’ve been a RUSH fan.
You can still be a Rush fan. That's the whole point of recording the music.
My youngest daughter bought tickets to this show and took me. Great father/daughter bonding. Nothing like Rush in concert. R.I.P. Neil
Only twice but in NW Indiana i saw them in 75 and 78.I played drums since i was 11 and in later years i purchased a used Rogers oversized double base kit.9 drums roto toms and paste cymbals.Tamma hardware and that was my version of Neils kit back in those days. Now i am 65 and still have three kits. And my shoulder is shot from snare banging.Ah....those great memories of youth.RIP Neil Peart.....you are so sadly missed. But you rejoined your daughter Selena and wife Jackie
I was a young ‘un, about to head to college when I saw them on this tour in Grand Prairie, TX. I had fallen in love with their music the year before, and I can’t explain the explosion of happiness I felt when Alex walked out on that stage playing the opening riff to “Limelight”. Definitely one of the fondest memories of my early life.
I went on a tour at our local classic rock radio station when I was 9, and the DJ gave me a copy of this on DVD. I have fond memories of going to my friends houses and showing them this recording, 2 of those friends went with me to see them on the Time Machine tour in Mountain View 2010. Best show I will ever see. Rush is the best, and not only for their music. They had the greatest attitude, an unmatched energy, and only the most positive vibes. RIP Neil, and thank you Rush.
Rush must be the most beautiful and lovely family, brotherhood and friendship than exist, thank you guys for all, RIP Neil ❤
Great rendition of Limelight. I like how they slowed it down slightly. Sounded great.
RIP PROFESSOR !! We'll forever miss you !!
This incredible drummer Neil Pert RIP was the man that make the drums sound like a melody instrument, he create sounds and unique techniques. Always be remembered. A genius.
He and Eddie Van Halen are creating masterpieces in Heaven
I've always thought that he made drums take the melody line. Truly an amazing talent. No holds barred, full throttle and dead on balls accurate.
You nailed that on the head bro 🤘💯🤘🍀🌍🌎🌟
@@rbdebose1 you got that right also bro my two words to describe Neil Incredibly Awesome 🤘💯🤘🍀🌍🌎🌟
@@scottwhite1963 LOOLLLL Eddie did only made one masterpiece after that he only repeated.Never involve.and that's why David Lee Roth left.
I nearly shat myself when I saw Neil holding the drumsticks in bed
Lmao
It's a shame that this will never happen again...😕
Every time you remember it, it happens.
@Johnny. I hear ya…its a bummer that we’ll never see them play live again but I’m glad I lived in a time to have seen them 7 times and I’ll always remember those incredible shows…so I was blessed….RIP Professor
My first concert ever was the snakes and arrows tour. It was the summer before I started 4th grade and seeing that intro skit again has me flooded with nostalgia. I’m grateful I got to see Neil in action in my lifetime
Still hard to process, but so grateful I was able to see them as many times as I did for as often as I did.
Seriously, this gotta be the best version of Limelight ever played by this godlike trio
Fucking PERFECT, amazing, great intro, great song, great lyrics, great performance!!!. RIP and thank you Neil Peart ...and thank you Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson..for the years of memories and music
God I miss these guys. Saw them six times live. Starting with Moving Pictures. Can't put it into words, but...damn. I just miss them. All three.
I truly love Rush with all my heart. And I too, love blowing up the house with Rush music. Every album, regular and live. I play it loud and true just as if I were in concert again. Rush! Forever!
He's gone. Damn! Am I gonna cry *every* time?
This perfect! What a trio of rock n rollers. They sound great and it appears that they are enjoying the show. RIP NP.
Always admired these guys...only 3 ...and make great music! R.I.P. Neil...ride high in the sky!
Man one the many reasons why I love these guys is their sense of humor, they always seem to get a laugh out of me. Long live Rush.
...and...as always...in the last 30 seconds of this song...goosebumps the size of dimes sprout on my arms and shoulders....GOD I love this band!!!
Saw this concert in Toronto, so close, I could have almost touched Alex.
Best musicians Canada ever made.
I'm glad I have that concert on DVD and the final show/s. They are fantastic indeed. But I lost the 3 disk red foldout DVD that had Exit Stage Left & Grace Under Pressure in then from the 80s & 90s but I think I'll buy them again.
I watched Rush play 'Limelight' live on stage many times. It was usually performed at a slightly faster tempo. During the encore of their 30th Anniversary Tour they played 'Limelight' in double time as part of a medley of their greatest hits... amazing.
10 years since this show. Wow!
Snakes and Arrows Live is possibly my favorite Rush Live Album
3:55 when Alex tells his sound man that everything is perfect :)
He looks so happy there.
The road crew had covered Alex’s pedalboards with Barbie dolls, they were having a laugh about it
They said ”my grandfater liked you”.
I would love to sit down and have a beer with these guys
Awesome comment
Made my morning. I love waking up half the house with some loud Rush music
I love so many little stories within this one video. For me, the 7 min mark when Geddy has sung the last lyric and for a few seconds just gets to go to town on his bass, smiling ear to ear .......
At 5:41 if the hair does not stand up on the back of your neck and there's not a tingle down your spine then you must be dead.
Ol' Ben Nine people must be dead.
I read this at that exact moment, the hair on my neck did indeed stand up, and a tingle did indeed run down my spine.
Ol' Ben Yikes... shivers happened!!
I can't tell you how many times I've backed it up to 5:41 so I can revel in that glorious moment again.
True. The guitar solo in "Limelight" is soul-piercing as a whole, but, yeah, chills at the opening chord.
Whenever I want to reconnect with myself... its Rush as the first choice to drop the needle on! I am so happy I was alive to see them embed themselves into musical history! (Nice job you hosers!)
That was a fairly good Scots accent that Geddy did. Is there nothing these freaks of nature can't do? There will never be another band like Rush, and that's both sad and incredibly gratifying at the same time, sad that Neil Peart (RIP) is gone, and gratifying in the sense that we actually had the amazing good fortune to experience these magicians of music and lyrics for over forty years. Their music will stand the test of time, it will be played well after everyone has forgotten the likes of brrr(sorry, I shudder just typing this name) Coldplay..errgh!, and Little Wayne, and other non entities in the world of music.
Long live rock and roll, long live the music and magic of Rush!
There will NEVER be a band as great as this.
Ever heard of a little band called Queen?
@@GHOSTLYWHISPERS Ya right! Rush blows Queen away,
@@carlogervasi5393 Each member of Rush stated that Queen was the reason they played music in the 1st place
@@GHOSTLYWHISPERS Yeah, Queen is VERY good, but not RUSH good.
@@GHOSTLYWHISPERS Not sure about that. CITATION NEEDED. I'm pretty sure Zeppelin had a big influence on the boys ;)
That was simply incredible . But it is Rush after all . Incredible has always been their standard. I was fortunate enough to see them in Richmond VA, U.S.A. My 32nd time seeing them live . So sad we lost Neil Peart . The absolute G.O.A.T. On that night the old Richmond Coliseum took on new life .
Best guitar intro ever sounds so awesome!!!!!
The "Limelight" intro is in the same category as "Smoke on the Water," "Satisfaction," "Slide," "Whole Lotta Love..." pure perfection.
I have followed Rush since my first Rush show, A Farewell to Kings. Snakes and Arrows is an amazing album. Spindrift is stupid cool
Thanks for the post.
I saw this concert 'live'.
Fantastic show.
Neil Peart's not dead, he just left the show.
Exit... Stage Left.
One of my very favourite tours. They were immense. I also caught one of the chicken t shirts. That may have something to do with it.
There are quite a few great bands, but as for the greatest band of all time, Rush has to be very close to, if not at the top of that list.
Love that band i think is the most powerful rock band that have seen.
That was the only Rush concert (2008) in Puerto Rico, but what a memorable one… 3 hours of pure perfection!!!
It’s brutal that we won’t see them together again 🖤
It may sound crazy, but Rush, Queen, and ABBA, for me, are the best bands that ever existed.
cant argue with Rush and Queen. ABBA? great songs, different music though. Much better "bands". Van Halen, WHO, Stones, REM, U2.. ABBA is not in this league.
Not that crazy really. All very talented.
ABBA for sure for the funk Bass
Haha. Love it 🤗. Music to my ears . Im one of the lucky ones to grow up with these three super talented guys. Seriously. Its mindblowing to watch them play with their cool toys 😄🐚❤️🎶🙌🏻
The greatest 3 man band ever assembled! Thank you Canada!
6:28
Singing, playing bass, and triggering pedals with his feet simultaneously... what a talent!
Agreed, amazing
not to mention the complexity of the bass lines to make up for being a 3 piece, AND song lyrics and melody lines that were not exactly easy to sing! WOW!
I like the Bakery's Grilled chiken ! With Fried "Polenta" ?! It's normal here in South Brazil, hahaha!
Loved this concert
I was listening to this and got iTunes out.
2 Limelight's at the same time.
So. Amazing. Two. Neil's. Geddy's. And. Two. Alex's.
WOAH
wowitzrachelolz U ROCK GLAD TO SEE A LADY RUSH FAN
paul rivera there's not enough of us out there!
GOING TO SEE THEM MAY 18 AND I THINK THERE R MORE TODAY THAN THE 70 AND 80'S ,,, WELL IM ON FACEBOOK UNDER ROCKY RUSH RIVERA LETS BE RUSH FANS TOGETHER
My favourite Rush track due to Alex's solo. Dreamy.........
I always listen to Rush ...my neighbours insist on it !
The Light Kit during this Tour was otherworldly!
The mobile light "pods" looked like the probe ships from Close Encounters of The Third Kind. Truly spectacular!
I can't imagine growing up without Rush. And I don't want to imagine it. Part of life's soundtrack.
Just can´t stop listening... and never will!
Great live recording, but it looks like Alex is having way too much fun at the beginning!
These guys musicianship is on another level fantastic
Y'all are crushing it...
Leave your ego at the door
huzzah, there's finally a good-quality version of this video on youtube! thanks many muches!
I went to this show when they were up in North Carolina, damn that was a good show. R40 is going to be starting up soon, I'm hopeing to make it my third show in a row.
Jaeger Newman ill be there in tampa on sunday cant wait itll be my first!!!!
I'm going to be in Greensboro a week from today. Going to be my third and sadly my last.
Jaeger Newman how come your last?
***** R40 is the last time the band will be touring. Though the band has stated that there is a possibility that they will continue to make music, they will not be touring anymore. The guys are getting old so it's getting hard for them perform back to back shows. Neil Peart especially can't do it anymore. Though guys like me like to joke that he is a god, he is human and his playing does take a toll on his body. Heck, when i was at R40 (which was fantastic show by the way) he didn't play the solo in one go, he split it up into two parts. I hate to see that happen but for the same 3 guys to perform for 40 years with no real conflict among them, you have to admit that's not a bad run eh?
Jaeger Newman they have said they might do smaller tours. That's why I was asking
The sound quality is amazing!!!
❤ ❤ ❤
To my shame I once wrote that I considered Neil too metronomiic in his drumming but I was just young and stupid . Older and slightly wiser I can appreciate the genius of the whole band and gladly saw them on the roll the bones tour . RIP Mr Peart .
This was the first time I ever saw Rush, the only song by them I had heard was Natural Science so I new they were epic in some sort of way I had never heard before but then a week or so later after first hearing that, some channel -Sky Arts- was showing this concert at like 2am, I had a free house so I stayed up to watch it not knowing really what to expect from Rush... I pretty much shit my pants to this and they've been my gods ever since, two years on I'm listening to Rush literally every day
The first time I saw Rush live was Snakes and Arrows June 22, 2007. Admittedly, I had become a Rush nerd a few years before but, seeing footage of this tour is always nostalgic for me. Brings me back to being 16 going on 17 again.
Just brilliant .
Finally a DVD quality version of this video. Very nice. Now we just need some smart guy or gal to upload the DVD version of "Far Cry" and our lives can be complete!
I know many would put them as the best trio of all time, but they're still underated!
The building up to and then ending of this song is so EPIC.
Dat guitar solo! *fans self*
I still can’t believe Neal is gone! 😢😭 At least he is in a better place. Thank you rush for all the wonderful music……
Can tell a band that's been together for a long time - playing a song at a much much slower tempo, a snail's pace, but it still manages to groove
Very much a friend ship
the time machine one w the Gefilter and 200 lb German Alex that it definently the best i mustve been laughing for a good 10 min at least 1st time i seen it wahaha
Rocker5593 200 lb? I think he us at least 200 lbs normally. That character was 350 for sure
@@sblack48 Alex's character in that video is "Slobovich" is Serbian, not German. It's based on Alex's family because of their Serbian heritage. Alex's character from the "what's that smell" concert video is probably German common because hes wearing lederhosen.🤔
That was the album that started it all, as the band moved further toward the iconic world of rock.
uhhh What? The first Rush namesake album started it all...jeeez
Grande banda, excelentes músicos e um som que não deixa ninguém indiferente. Para sempre Rush!
i need that shirt ged is wearing.rip professor
Geedy lee is an absolute beast. He's the busiest guy on stage with the bass the vocals the keyboard the triggers. Idk how he does it
I do
I'll never get used to seeing a young Neil...✌😎👍
Masters!!!!!!!!!!;;
When those lights come on at 3:09, everytime...goosebumps
It was a dream, a great dream. A amazing band call RUSH. For me a 35 year old wonderful fantasy. I’m going back to sleep......
Shivers alex shivers my man WOOO WEEEEE what a guitar solo !!😜😜
The introduction is really funny with the scottish man... It's a great imitaion of one!
Missed the farewell tour. Miss them period!
R.I.P. Neil Peart 1.11.20
1/7/20
Really liked this video! All the best!!
He was such a Maestro on those drums.. RIP Professor...
Massive Goosebumps when they do Hemispheres
Pause at 1:47 Alex and Neil's faces are priceless lol
Excelente...gracias..!!!!
The good guys
Geddys Scottish accent is pretty good 😅
Approach the unreal.
But what's with the dolls.
