Not a mosquito expert but I’ve taken a medical entomology class (where we only covered medically relevant critters) back in the day and heard that they sense our CO2 emissions so maybe they go for people who are more metabolically active? 🤔
Predatory saliences. Their nervous system is sensitive to signs of life....CO², thermogenesis, kinetics....all of it. They sense your fear and vigilance, and subsequently the more you move the more alluring and tasty you are.
Yes, mosquitoes are attracted to sweat, body temperature, pregnant women, drinking alcohol and certain chemicals like lactic acid, high metabolism, high carbon dioxide. There are also evidence that blood type (O) attracts mosquitoes more than blood types (A or B). This information comes from studies done by Pfizer, CNN, OFF, & Nature.
that is part of the reason, but they're also attracted to certain body odors and I thought heat (which would lead back to metabolically active people falling victim more often), not sure about that last one though

So, I have small fiber neuropathy. I was diagnosed 4.5 years ago. Before then, I used to eaten alive by mosquitos. While I was at my sickest (whenever I could make it outside, I was bedridden for a time) everyone else would get eaten up and I wouldn’t have a single bite. I’ve done IVIG, I’m now close to remission, and I just got my first mosquito bite. Honestly, it made me really happy, it felt like a sign that I’m actually getting better ❤
I never thought about germs growing in there. Been avoiding air blowers for ages cuz they're so loud and takes an age to dry compared to a paper towel or drying it on my own clothes 😂😂 There's probably still more germs on the door knob or door from all those people who don't clean their hands.
I've done cpr and chest compressions on several types of animals and humans. The best are always the ones who survive, but I learn from each, so it's worth it every single time.
It was playing dead, and its a thing they do to escape a predator when running is not an option. Frogs can still technically breathe in water. This was completely unnecessary, and 100% did more harm than good
7:17 I’m not entomologist (person who study’s insects that are medically important) but I do know a fair bit about haematology (the study of blood) mosquitoes are most likely to be attracted to a person with type O blood (O+ is the most common blood type in people) and mosquitoes are least likely to be attracted to a person with type A blood (Type A+ blood being the second most common blood type for a person to have). Mosquitoes also may like the smell of your body out there more, your body heat, mosquitoes like warm bodies more, and or the colour of your clothes and genetics. This is why you may find yourself being covered by buy mosquitoes more than your friends. Hope this helps.
7:05 Mosquitoes are more attracted to people with blood type O. They come with an interest in carbon dioxide, high-contrast clothing worn, the bacterial population on your skin, and the infrared rays emitted from the body. Same here, Autistic and have misophonia. I find hand dryers very difficult to deal with. I don’t use them and try to leave the bathroom as quickly as possible because other ppl are using them

I don’t want to hear anyone crying about things being “not natural” unless they live outside and poop on the ground cause toilets and houses aren’t natural either but I don’t hear them griping about that.
everything on earth is natural, we didn't invent anything that didn't come from nature as it's base materials, a house is built with some kind of bricks for exemple, those bricks are made from a combinations of sand, clay and lime primarly. every thing on earth can be traced back to "nature" like that, so that argument of something being "not natural" is even more funny
I'm actually taking an intro level entomology course this semester. According to the lectures I've seen on mosquitos so far, they can actually detect which type of blood you have even from across the room, and favor certain blood types over others.
I'm not a mosquito-ologist (lol) but I remember coming across theories that mosquitos are more attracted to O+ blood, and to people who are larger or exercising, because they're breathing out more carbon dioxide and following trails of elevated carbon dioxide plays into how mosquitos track down a target.

Currently in a vet class and planning on studying to be a vet tech, while I’m sure most videos of people doing cpr on animals aren’t aware, but we’re taught to cup our hand around a dog’s nose while keeping their mouth shut when administering a breath, so there is a safe way to administer mouth to mouth on an animal
I'm not a mosquito-ologist, but I can tell you from lots of experience that mosquitoes are attracted to potassium (which apparently is perceivable through the skin to them) and I've heard (and can confirm 😭) that they like light-colored people. I’m O negative. I was always told they like negative blood types. But now I wonder if it’s the O or the negative they love so much about me. They eat me alive 😢
EDS is actually a spectrum disorder. My son is on the hypermobility spectrum. The joints in his arms and legs actually move in multiple directions, which can cause him to dislocate quite easily.
yes, it is but there are also many different types which can have a huge impact on overall prognosis. a lot of people who don't know much about eds don't know there are types [which are technically all separate conditions] or only know of H-EDS as its the most common
A couple years ago, I was with some friends and just one of them was not getting stung by mosquitoes, one of them told us that he had just read an article where it says that it might be because our smell or more specific our blood type, since then I’ve been asking people (mostly classmates) during lectures where I know there are a bunch of mosquitoes and yeah… blood has a lot to do with it. @@foam3132 From what I know there is simply inconclusive evidence and lack of research into the subject for us to answer that, but the current tesis is leaning towards no, as there is simply lackluster evidence of this being the case. However, apparently having recently ingested a beer or something sweet, being pregnant, sweating or even just being in a group of people does actually increase the mosquitos attraction towards you. All but the last can be explained by the body odors you produce, like sweat having lots of acids that mosquitos like or how pregnancy alters hormone levels and therefore the body odor. And the last one is due to the higher CO2 density in the air, thusly letting the mosquitos know that there's living things, probably with some suckable blood, nearby.

10:50 I actually have a story related to this! Years ago when my father was in the hospital after a bad car crash, he had some brain injury and they did the same thing was they removed part of the skull due to the brain swelling. The other interesting thing was they put the piece of skull like under the skin in his abdomen to keep the bone alive or whatever for when they put it back (I was pretty young so forgive if I got some details wrong!)
My brother had Gastroparesis. They treated it by giving him a botox injection. His stomach now empties normally now. Before they said he had one of the worst cases they'd ever seen.
@@amethyst1062Botox has a ton of medical uses. It works by paralyzing muscles, and it does it really well. It’s mostly used to prevent headaches, from my understanding.

I routinely workout. In defense of Emsculpt, which I tried out of curiosity, the session left me better able to engage target muscles during my normal workouts. I think, before Emsculpt, and particularly as a person with a uterus, I struggled to engage my lower abs, instead relying on middle-upper abs. I suppose it might have been equally beneficial to retain a personal trainer or physical therapist, but Emsculpt very quickly helped me fix this (without my knowing or intending that it would).
A couple of years ago, around 2019, I started losing an extreme amount of weight - going from 120 to 100 lbs in about a month, all the while eating constantly. I just knew something had to be wrong. Finally my blood work showed my blood chemistry was way off - similar to someoe who had severe eating disorder. I had a small growth on my pancreas, luckily, non-cancerous, that was removed. However, the remaining part of my pancreas was still not doing what a pancreas does. I was still losing weight, until I was down to about at my lowest 85 pounds. I was started on TPN, 24/7. There was a insertion in my upper arm with a catheter that ran close to my heart. That's where the TPN was administered. I was on this for about six months, at home. I was told that this type of insertion is almost impossible to keep clean or sterile in a normal home atmosphere. So of course, after a couple of months, I came down with sepsis. Back into the hospital. After being on the TPN 24/7 for about five months, I was switch to only 12 hours a day. When I finally started gaining some weight back, we went to first TPN every other day and then every third day until I could finally get off of it. That stuff really saved my life.

I wonder if those Neo machines the lady's using at 5:44 could be used for rehab, or to maintain muscle tone in patients who can't exercise? Well, this video is like a rollercoaster ride through the funhouse of wellness myths and internet doctors. As long as I don't get my medical advice from a TikTok challenge and resist the ill-fated urge to give mouth-to-mouth to a pigeon, I should be just fine! Stay well-hydrated, avoid bee organ smoothies and above all, honor the excellent capacity of your scapular retractors!
6:37 - I also learnt recently that an integral part of fat loss is the level or state of breathing reached. in essence fats are broken down into Co2. Those machines that simulate crunches may be seen as useless to many people. However, as someone with POTS who can't physically do crunches most days, this type of machine is a game changer! I will be asking my doctor about possibly using or even buying some of these devices for myself.
I enjoy your videos and your takes on various things (particularly tv show docs!), and I appreciate the conversations you've had about psychological health. I would really love to see you do a video on eating disorders, especially in adults. I'm 6 years in remission from a serious bout with atypical anorexia but still struggle at times because ED doesn't just go away. That voice is still there, and at times it's really hard to steer away from acting on it. So much of the talk about ED focuses on young women but it's entirely different being a grown woman in the sandwich generation - managing work, kids, and caring for elderly sick parents. I wasn't diagnosed with an eating disorder until I was in my early 40's because I stayed under the radar for decades. When I (finally) went IOP (I could not even consider in-patient), I was the only person there over age 24, not to mention the only one married with kids. There is an entire generation of adults struggling with EDs who are left out of discussions about care & treatment. It's also really hard when the focus seems to on two extremes of anorexia & bulimia rather than the spectrum of EDs in between. OSFED (what a terrible acronym!) makes up the vast majority of ED and yet we're left "in the middle" without real diagnoses.PLEASE consider doing one or more videos on adult eating disorders and how hard it is to find treatment (and recognition) as an adult. Thanks & please keep on with your mission to help educate people on medical issues. It's incredibly important!
6:25 It might be healthier, but for people with scoliosis and EDS this feels like a much safer way to get things done without causing a disk slip or dislocation.
Yeah I think it's good for people who have some type of physical ailment that prevents them from working out naturally, but unfortunately these types of procedures and technologies aren't being marketed towards people like that. They're being marketed to otherwise healthy adults who would benefit much more from doing regular exercise. But it's all about the money with these companies.
You can work all these muscles without the strain of crunches, etc. Yoga is a great example (assuming it's a real teacher and not just some "power flow" thing. )🙏
I never laugh at people when they get hurt… but that gal slipping, with her bin over her head just laid me out. 🤣 I do hope she didn’t get hurt, though.

I tried briefly to explain that's not how GMOs or biology work, she was confident that it was, and I gave up and sighed. 7:08 Not a mosquito-ologist but I've heard that mosquitos are most attracted to type O more than A, B and AB.
Not a mosquito expert but I’ve taken a medical entomology class (where we only covered medically relevant critters) back in the day and heard that they sense our CO2 emissions so maybe they go for people who are more metabolically active? 🤔
If you are not producing CO2 then mosquitos are the least of your problems.
I read that too. But I also read that it's the females who suck the blood for mating and laying eggs. Gross .
that is part of the reason, but they're also attracted to certain body odors and I thought heat (which would lead back to metabolically active people falling victim more often), not sure about that last one though

Dr. Mike is the reason why I never ever use those air blowing machines in public bathrooms. Shaking my hands all the way baby!
I never thought about germs growing in there. Been avoiding air blowers for ages cuz they're so loud and takes an age to dry compared to a paper towel or drying it on my own clothes 😂😂 There's probably still more germs on the door knob or door from all those people who don't clean their hands.
@@Nathan_Bookwurmthe germs don't actually grow in the dryers, they just aggressively blow the germs in the air directly onto your hands
I take my own hand towel to work so I don't have to use the hand dryers. 👐
I've avoided them ever since Mythbusters
It's really not that bad. They'll get there with the next thing you touch.
That killed me 😂 First they did surgery on a grape, now they did chest compressions on a frog! I was just as surprised as Mike when it worked 😂
As the fun ruining guy, I'd say its more likely the frog initially played dead, which some of them do if they can't escape predators.
@@petmachthat's what I thought as well. I have seen frogs do that when my cats were chasing them.

6:50 some studies have actually shown that mosquitos prefer sertain blood types, with type O being their favourite. The more you know
What about diabetic blood (high blood sugar at that)
@@foam3132 From what I know there is simply inconclusive evidence and lack of research into the subject for us to answer that, but the current tesis is leaning towards no, as there is simply lackluster evidence of this being the case.
How mosquito would know your blood type before biting you though..
