*Bottom of truck looks extremely clean, like sub-5000 mile vehicle.*
*Step 1: Weld up some real doors with insulation and seals*
*Step 2: Find a stock rear window that fits in there and open up the rear view*
*Step 3: Restore functional roof turret.*
(ps, loved that he didn't uber his mom and wife home at the airport connection)

Stick to 45 mph, fit suspension seats and drop the tire pressures by 10 psi or maybe more when cruising unloaded.
These trucks have a diesel fired heating system for the engine and transmission oil. It's unlikely this is on, but perhaps check it anyway.
Pretty cool another owner walks up to offer help. Hope you took his number!

YES thinking the same 12:44 . It probably got "HOT" when he went at the faster speed. I don't think those BIG boys Army or should say ( Marine Corp) thought I saw a Marine marking on the body. The Military convoy is always 45 MPH. Those big heavy haulers are not built for speed for the running gears.

I’ve owned military trucks and they all have some issues when they are taken out of mothballs. They have basic mechanical systems and they are overbuilt. So the problems that happened on that trip are not too unusual. Riley will be busy for a while fixing/ replacing hoses, checking electrical connections, and various other things. Keep a good attitude about this new to you acquisition and it will serve you well.

They were getting to costly to maintain, that's why the Military sells them. The old 21/2 ton, some were well over 20 years old and still running, the M151 was another that ran forever. But the newer vehicles..well if they make it out of the motor pool its a red letter day

Having built-in diagnostics speeds up diagnostic time when in a maintenance bay, but it can assist a driver/co-driver in defect write up when turning a vehicle in.
I don't have experience repairing 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 particular piece of equipment, my work was rotary wing avionics maintenance, and having built in self-test self-diagnose is a time saver rather than having to pull a flight computer, tag, write up the bird, haul the computer into an office to test, then haul it back, install, test, then schedule a test flight.

Without the service manuals you have the most complicated truck on earth that you will not be able to keep on the road. Get and store the manuals so that you can decode alerts and know what to fix these may not be available into the future. Great truck if you keep you can change the ring and pinion to make for more of a highway truck as you will not be fully loaded on unimproved roads where mil. vehicles must be able to operate and the higher final drive ratio will not be noticed other than making highway use more pleasant. Good Luck this truck is very cool! Ray

Yes, they are most certainly kidney Busters.
But, on the plus side, air ride seats bolt directly in.
Now you're going to need another electric grease gun, on top of a case of oil and 5 gallons of hydraulic fluid on hand on your truck at all times.
Oh and the big tube of gasket maker just in case.
At this point you may as well buy yourself a hose swager too

I read that the truck hasvon the go adjustable tyre pressure.
One of the neat tricks is that it has a dashboard function based on the load being carried.
So you could probably have got a slightly better ride on highway by telling it you were empty.
Also it seems that the engine derates at low load, presumably saves a bit of fuel.
    Enjoy!

I drove the troop/cargo variant of these (MK23) towing howitzers in the USMC 2008-2012. From the factory all of our trucks were unarmored and had air ride driver seats. Once they got sent off for the armor package (which this truck had/has) the air ride seat went bye bye along with windows that opened...and I've never been in one that the "A/C" worked. The only airflow was hot air from the vents or outside air from the tiny firing ports in the windows...or take the turret cover off. Looks like those crappy soft doors are homemade.

I have a military SCANIA SBAT111with automatic gearbox from a city bus. 3 speeds and lockup clutch but with planetary torque divider, so engaging lockup raises speed about 30% -you can consider it as fourth gear. it has also very short gears. it is possible to reach about 90 km/h but wih engine revs hittinng 2300 rpm red zone. 60-65 km/h is a convenient speed, with fuel consumption and noise skyrocketing. when i bought it., i made it home about 800 km, had one issue with last gear disabled due to brake lights switch stuck. brake light went on, and as transmision control receives also that signal, it prevented from using last gear.

Yes! Paul didn't have a chance to drive it very often so I have a feeling there will be some "kinks" to work out.

This reminds me of the time in 2009 The Wife and I drove from SW-Missouri to North New Hampshire when I bought a 1982 Iveco Box truck that used to belong to the Bimota USA AMA Race Team. On a whim. I paid $500 for it.
Had to work on the brake and clutch hydraulics before ever moving it, then halfway-across New York the lift-pump sprang a leak. In a Construction Zone. So the truck kept losing power and slowed down to 30mph with an enormous line of vehicles behind me (if you were in that line - I Apologize!)
Jury-rigged a repair at the next rest stop, and it was smooth sailing the rest of the way back to Missouri… at 60mph (65 downhill with a Tailwind!)
At least it had a Sleeper.

When you started talking transmission issues….. that gave me flash backs. I drove my Unimog home (just a leisure 4000 mile cross continent trip) and 300 miles before home the transmission died. The old Unimog’s have no transmission temp sensor/gauge either…..

All wheel stearing is sweet and very helpful!
I'm thinking you're going to have to drain and flush the lines and then replenish with quality fluid according to manufacturer specifications
