This is where he was discovered so to speak. David Bowie and Jackson Browne were there that night and David talked him into being on his next album and Jackson told him they could use his recording studio free to make an album. The rest is history.GOAT SRV RIP.
I will watch any SRV reaction you put out there. A neat one to watch is Stevie and his brother Jimmy doing Pipeline. I think you will get a kick out of it. Thank you for reacting to SRV any time.
You should watch that whole Montreaux concert then watch the 85 concert as well which will blow your socks off. I love the blues and SRV is #1. Stevie brought back a blues revival in the 80’s and all of the great artists BB King etc.. had a hey day, make sure to watch his performances with them. He was so respectful of them and they loved Stevie like a son. Look it all up!! When he died they were devastated!! The guitar is with his brother older Jimmy Vaughan and family. You’ve got to hear Dirty Pool and True love is gone. My faves where he hi lights Tremolo Strumming which most can’t do. :)
You have to do 2 songs Life without you live from Capital Theater and Tin Pam Alley live with Johnny Copeland. That is a remarkable live true blues jam. Double Trouble was his band. Chis Layton on drums, Tommy Shannon on base and later added the beast Reese Wynans on keys. It doesnt get better than these tunes
This was his first time playing the Montreux Jazz Festival. Listen to the whistles in the crowd. That is their equivalent of boos. The audience was not expecting SRV's blues. They did not like it. But, there was a guy standing just off stage that recognized talent. He talked SRV into being on his upcoming album. So, when you hear David Bowie's song 'Let's Dance', that is SRV playing the solo. The exposure that Bowie gave him is how SRV took off.
SRV did a song with Jeff Healy, a blind guitar player from Canada who passed away from cancer. The song is called “Look at Little Sister” and it is another gem. Pride and Joy is all Stevie’s from writing to his rock, blues sound.
Saw him live in 1986. Unbelievable talent. Now I’m patiently waiting for you to watch his famous Texas Flood performance at the El Mocambo. Prepare to have your mind blown.
My mother's name was Joy and she was proud of it. She loved few things more than a man who could play a good blues guitar. The first time she saw Stevie Ray was in the early eighties and this was the first song he did. Needless to say, it was instant love for her. When I heard he had died, the first thing I had to do was call to make sure she was ok. I've said before, she died nine years later and I hope she got to meet him in the afterlife. RIP mom and SRV.
🎸⚡Stevie was the First unsigned act Ever to be invited to play the prestigious Montreux Jazz and Blues Festival, 1982. They were still a struggling band playing mostly clubs in Texas, getting around in a broke-down used milk truck. Stevie would never give up his blues to make it big and would have stayed playing clubs if it meant giving up the music he loved. We love ya, Stevie.❤
Double Trouble was hid band, bass player and drummer. 😁 They are so talented to be able to keep up with Stevie freestyling. Absolute greatest! Continue on the SRV rabbit hole. Im here for it! ❤
Stevie got BOOOED at this Montreux Jazz Fest in 1982, but came back in 1985 and they liked him alot more and thanks to David Bowie Jackson Browne for getting Stevie out for people to see and I think Stevie's brother Jimmy might have that guitar?!!! 🐐😍🔥🎸😁
What is so amazing about his playing style is that he is playing rythem AND lead WHILE he is singing! Truly 1 of 1. I will be amazed if there is another like him, EVER.
Loving these SRV reactions. He's my personal favorite of all time. His voice is definitely underrated. What an amazing talent that we lost too soon. I've been listening to him since i was in the womb. I can recommend so many of his performances for you. But some of my favorites include "Life Without You" live from Capitol Theatre, "Tin Pan Alley" with Johnny Copeland live from Montreaux 1985, "Hideaway/Rude Mood" Live from Montreaux 1982, "Mary Had a Little Lamb" live from Austin 1989, "Lenny" live from El Mocambo.
Stevie Ray Vaughan played the guitar tracks on David Bowie's album. He played guitar on Let's Dance, China Girl and Cat People (Putting Out the Fire). So talented! Such a huge loss.
Yeah for more Stevie Ray🎸🎶👏🙌💙💯. You are beginning to scratch the surface~. His vocals adapt to the particular song he is singing so it has many different sounds. This is an original song by Stevie and as good as his covers are, I really love his originals. For another original and great vocals, check out "Aint Gone 'N' Give Up On Love" as performed at the Capitol Theatre 1985. That guitar is known as #1 and also his first wife. When asked why he calls it his first wife he said because she screams for me and not at me☺️✌️💯. Keep SRV coming‼️ I'll be here for it🔥🎸🎶
Keep going on the SRV rabbit hole, I'm here for it. Life Without You, Live @ the Capitol Theater is one of my faves along with him and Jeff Healy doing Look @ Little Sister.
This is my favorite SRV song. His other songs may put his guitar mastery on display, but this one lets his voice take center stage. That rasp, that soul...this song makes me believe there's someone out there who feels about me the way he sings about her.
If you want to see guitar work that will blow your mind (at least it blows mine) check out Jimmie and Stevie Ray Vaughan - Pipeline. Jimmie was older than Stevie and started playing guitar before him. He has said he would leave the house and tell Stevie to not touch his guitar. Good thing Stevie didn't listen.
Does anyone remember the Don't Mess With Texas commercial with SRV? It dealt with littering i believe. 40 years later, I still think about that commercial every time I hear his music. I see and feel your passion for SRV and his music. Thanks for the reaction.
Do yourself a solid and watch BOTH versions of " Look at Little Sister " Stevie Ray has a version with Double Trouble, where you literally get to watch Stevie Ray play without a string and slickest guitar switch ever. Then, Jeff Healey and Stevie Ray Vaughan.....same song, completely different version. Jeff was blind and he was one of the few who could play with Stevie Ray and stand out. Both performances make you glad that you are alive and able to witness it 🙌 🥳💯💣💥
It just makes me super envious of anyone who’s ever seen him live. You’re jammin’ just watching the video, imagine seeing this live. His guitar playing and singing and the whole delivery is just fantastic ❤️
I saw SRV live numerous times even his last show in ATL in '89. You have to watch "Life without you" live at Capitol Theatre, Passaic, NJ and see if you can catch all of the challenges (seamless guitar change *don't blink, dropped pick, adjust the amps for guitar change, playing behind his back, the speech mid-song and a lost tooth). Another beauty is "Life by the drop", released posthumously and written by a childhood friend of his.
What I love about SRV and DT... is the ability for DT to drive the head bob and the finger snaps... while SRV paints the white space like Van Gogh paints a canvas...
Stevie Ray Vaughn was so good at playing the blues that legendary blues musician Muddywaters said that if he was able to get off drugs and stay clean then hew would be the greatest guitarist in history.
When SRV passed away he had been opening for Eric Clapton. SRV was in a helicopter that crashed into a ski hill at Apple Pine Valley in Wisconsin during fog late at night I recall hearing this that same night driving through a foggie night in eastern South Dakota. In an area without trees but what I could see reminded me of driving I-94 through Wisconsin. Eerie Btw being a poor college kid missed seeing him in concert earlier that year. Major regret.
My favorite guitarist of all time. I finally got to see him live opening up for Robert Plant. It was when Plant was once again allowed to play Zeppelin music and Jimmy Page played with him as well. One of my favorite concerts ever.
Nothing like The Late Great Stevie Ray Vaughan!!! I believe his brother Jimmie has his guitar. We had such fun listening to SRV & Double Trouble dancing hard when they were playing ☮️
Soul in they way you are describing has been around in the hearts of men forever. It comes out in music of every kind and age is not unique to or invented by any culture or civilization. I'm 61 saw him twice live and everything your discovering is awsome. Don't let any one tell you ya can't say shredded. The whole point of rock is no rules. Great show thanks.
My very first introduction to SRV was "The Sky is Crying" and I have been hanging out in the rabbit hole every since. So much talent and fantastic music in such a short career. It boggles the mind to think about how good the music he didn't have a chance to make would have been. He was definitely top five guitarists ever and my feelings are that there is no way to rank one over the other because they all have different styles, but such tremendous talents. Double Trouble is amazing as well, because they keep that solid steady beat while Stevie just goes crazy on guitar and eventually jumps right back and the song continues. This is an amazing rabbit hole you're headed down.
This has always been my favorite SRV song, I love how it shows both Stevie’s vocals and guitar skill. Other SRV I would recommend are “Willie The Wimp” and “The House is Rockin”, bit of a deeper SRV cut but great songs.
The last I knew, Stevie's #1, which is now owned by his brother Jimmy Vaughan, was on loan for display in the Texas State Capitol Building in Austin, TX. It was valued at around $675,000 a few years ago...but its true value is really priceless to SRV fans. Stevie took awhile to gain confidence in his vocals but had a naturally great voice that has been described as "honey over gravel". Check out "Mary had a Little Lamb' , "Look at Little Sister" or "Leave my Little Girl Alone" live from Austin if you want more of his vocals.
Yeah, his voice was so unique and so well suited to his chosen style. I couldn't imagine him doing so well in any other genre. I truly feel like we were all cheated out of being able to experience what he could do that we hadn't seen yet.
SRV is the blues/rock GOAT. Check out any of the Live at the El Mocambo concert. It's the best live performance ever recorded IMHO. He was on fire at the top of his game just killing it.
Having lived in Austin during the 80sand 90s I got to see z SRV a total of 8 times, twice his brother's band along with his. I feel honored to have such a privilege . Even the time my husband and I got tear gassed at an outdoor venue because an unruly fan beaned a cop with a beer bottle.
The first time I saw SRV was in a tiny club at college, before he "hit it big"....$3 cover and you could NOT BREATHE in the place: it was SO PACKED!!! Always used to joke with my late hubby that most of his music "kinda makes ya wanna get up on a table in leather hip boots and dance, doesn't it?!!!"....and, of course, his answer back: "NO! But, YOU can!!" 🤣🤣🤣 SO GLAD you discovered Stevie Ray and enjoy him, so much! I felt exactly the same when I discovered him, years ago! GREAT RABBIT HOLE, BP!!! ENJOY, MAN!! HUGS!
I know I'm 6 months late, but I just came across this. I'm almost 39, and grew up on some old rock music, including some Stevie Ray. I didn't appreciate him as much then as I do now. My brother was named after this legend. Stevie Ray's guitar abilities are just phenomenal. I'm really in to current and recent rock but I can definitely appreciate this old school rock and blues from the likes of Stevie Ray and Jimi Hendrix and the Grateful Dead.
Watch any live version of Life Without You. Its probably one of his most powerful songs and he always used give what can only be called a sermon half way through where he would talk about loving and helping one another. Amazing human!
Great reaction, absolutely love Pride and Joy and Stevie demolishing that Strat. You should check out some of his songs in minor, they are drenched with soul. Dirty pool - Montreux Tin pan alley with Johnny Copeland
Stevie Ray was the GOAT! I was in junior high & high school when he was hitting it big and he was just awesome. He dripped R&B & we still feel his loss. Thanks for the reaction.
Albert King was his #1 idol...and you can hear it. They did a session together, it was beautiful to watch him light up and play with the person he looked up to the most.
Thing about SRV is that he played every single song like it was the last time he would ever touch that guitar! First time he played the Montreaux Jazz Festival in Switzerland ( 1979/1980) the audience was expecting some dusty old black bluesman on a beat up acoustic guitar as this was their impression of what rootsy blues was all about,- so when this swaggering Texan cowboy started laying down the law with his rootsy americana stingin´ blues-rock they started buuhing him,- loudly and calling him a fake! After the performance Stevie was sitting in his wardrobe feeling gut shot and skinned to the bone exclaiming to his manager: "They buuhed me!!!!" His manager answered: Yes, - they did,- but wait till you see who´s outside your wardrobe door wanting to greet you. Waiting outside was David Bowie, wanting to thank him for the concert, tell him how great he was,- oh, yeah,- and hire him for his upcoming record! Six months later Bowie´s renowned and famous Lets Dance album hit the charts,- two weeks later Stevie Ray Vaughan was a world name,- everybody going: " Who´s that cat on Bowie´s new album playing the guitar?,- Never heard anything like it! " You want an impression watch the official video: David Bowie- Lets Dance
Check out Look At Little Sister, Life Without You please do live versions. Won't ruin the surprise. Also, Tin Pan Alley with Johnny Copeland. After Vaughan's death, the original neck was reinstalled on Number One, and both are now in the possession of Jimmie Vaughan.( SRV's older brother). Jimmie plays guitar 🎸 too. Stevie idolized his older brother. Jimmie played guitar so Stevie wanted too.
Stevie was twenty-eight at this venue. He had been sitting in with some of the blues greats for at least thirteen years prior. More vocals? Montreaux '84, Tin Pan Alley! His brother Jimmy received all of Stevie's estate upon his death.
I love Stevie Ray Vaughan! What can I say. I really like your show too and I like your personality. You’re open minded and your ability to just take it all in and enjoy it. We are both as I call us, global citizens, formally known as Air Force brats, however I’m about 20 years older than you but it’s a common bond We share whether we know it or not. Thank you, keep up the good work.
BP, you HAVE to check out Stevie Ray Vaughan: Texas Flood, live at the El Mocambo. What he does with his guitar is nothing short of amazing!!
He already has ! 😊 ua-cam.com/video/QmyqmxmbYwI/v-deo.htmlsi=EIXvaGQyvGVAH8Ob
It is in my opinion the greatest guitar performance ever filmed.

It was amazing he was boo'ed and came back a couple years later and slayed them again.
I will watch any SRV reaction you put out there. A neat one to watch is Stevie and his brother Jimmy doing Pipeline. I think you will get a kick out of it. Thank you for reacting to SRV any time.
Couldn't stand the weather is another great one.
Yes more SRV. Like others have said you have to watch Texas Flood live. Best performance ever. Love the Chanel.

You've heard the phrase, "Born to play the blues". Say hello to Stevie Ray Vaughn. An ambassador of the blues and blues legends. RIP SRV.
SRV the sky is crying
SRV AND ALBERT KING
Life Without You, live is one of my favorites.
What talent this man has
Stevie Ray Vaughan, live at the El Mocambo 1983, the song "Texas flood"... It will blow your mind
Please react to SRV and Jeff Healey. You can see in the performance that Stevie was impressed and having a great time with Jeff's style
SRV did a song with Jeff Healy, a blind guitar player from Canada who passed away from cancer. The song is called “Look at Little Sister” and it is another gem. Pride and Joy is all Stevie’s from writing to his rock, blues sound.
Stevie Ray and Jeff Healey were two of the greatest Blues performers of the last century.
Stevie's my all time favorite! RIP
Thanks for keeping him alive!!

SRV's best vocal performance IMO is Ain't Gone 'N Give Up On Love, written by Stevie. Check out the live performance of it, you won't be disappointed.

Stevie Ray Vaughan played the guitar tracks on David Bowie's album. He played guitar on Let's Dance, China Girl and Cat People (Putting Out the Fire). So talented! Such a huge loss.

The reason it reminds you of The Wanderer is that this song has a basic 12 bar blues structure which is used in thousands of songs.

Pure raw natural talent not like now days
Great song! ❤️✌️
Albert King was his #1 idol...and you can hear it. They did a session together, it was beautiful to watch him light up and play with the person he looked up to the most.
I saw him the night before he died, one of the best concerts I have a seen.
After the performance Stevie was sitting in his wardrobe feeling gut shot and skinned to the bone exclaiming to his manager: "They buuhed me!!!!"
His manager answered: Yes, - they did,- but wait till you see who´s outside your wardrobe door wanting to greet you.
Waiting outside was David Bowie, wanting to thank him for the concert, tell him how great he was,- oh, yeah,- and hire him for his upcoming record!
Six months later Bowie´s renowned and famous Lets Dance album hit the charts,- two weeks later Stevie Ray Vaughan was a world name,- everybody going:
" Who´s that cat on Bowie´s new album playing the guitar?,- Never heard anything like it! "
You want an impression watch the official video: David Bowie- Lets Dance
Check out Look At Little Sister, Life Without You please do live versions. Won't ruin the surprise. Also, Tin Pan Alley with Johnny Copeland. After Vaughan's death, the original neck was reinstalled on Number One, and both are now in the possession of Jimmie Vaughan.( SRV's older brother). Jimmie plays guitar 🎸 too. Stevie idolized his older brother. Jimmie played guitar so Stevie wanted too.
Somewhere you can find Stevie Ray in a candid recording of the Sound Check before a performance. Completely. Mind. Blowing.
Blues is blood
RIP Stevie Ray
Stevie was twenty-eight at this venue. He had been sitting in with some of the blues greats for at least thirteen years prior. More vocals? Montreaux '84, Tin Pan Alley! His brother Jimmy received all of Stevie's estate upon his death.
SRV the absolute 🎸 🐐 !❤ watch him doing "Life without you " capitol theater NJ 1985 !
