Once again, I would like to Thank TOBY GAD for allowing me to Publish this video. This performance at The HOTEL CAFE was an unannounced performance - nobody knew Angelina was going to be singing. BAD VALENTINE was the 2nd of two songs Angelina sang; just prior to this she sang IF I WERE A BOY with Toby, then came this first and Only known Public performance of BAD VALENTINE. The event at the Hotel Cafe was Live Streamed as part the 'Jesse and Friends' podcast, but again, Nobody knew Angelina was going to be singing.
During the performance, there were of course a number of people that were recording with their cell phones, a number of which have found their way to UA-cam, but they are of "questionable" quality to say the least. This video is the Actual Live Stream of the event, with audio taken directly from the venue's audio equipment, hence the amazing quality.
Despite making the choice to Perform BAD VALENTINE that night, Toby didn't want BAD VALENTINE to get much attention Right Now, given this song is and UNRELEASED ORIGINAL and there is a strategy driving the release of songs that would likely be impacted at the time of release should the song be "out there" in any significant way. Toby knew that he had no control of the cell phone recordings, but he was holding Tightly to the Live Stream itself.
I approached Toby a number of times essentially asking permission to Publish this video. After a number of weeks - and with videos of BAD VALENTINE proliferating on social media - Toby gave the go-ahead. I am sooo stoked to be able to present this amazing video on my channel, all thanks to Toby - it is a True gift to all of us. We ALL cannot wait for the release of this and Other originals the pair have written together . . . their work together is NOT limited to just BAD VALENTINE... we have much to look forward to. 😇Jim

This is a perfect example of why we call Angelina "The Girl of A Thousand Voices". All those jazz and blues greats that she started with, copying their tones and styles until they became part of her tool kit. You never know until she opens her mouth what you're going to get, the rich and smooth and delicate delivery like from her Nobel performance or this kind of gritty, bluesy, hard performance. Whatever emotion or story she wants to portray with her songs, she's got the vocal range and colors to pull it off.

There are so many things about this song, performance, lyrics, vocals, musicians that are just stunning...like being in a tsunami! It just overwhelms the senses, and after you recover, then comes the what just happened? The story, the antagonist perspective, are both so surprising, yet the antagonist is reproaching their lover for seeing and hearing what you want to hear... Anyway, great reaction...my own reaction was not so different. Angelina's vocal choices were mind blowing...and the musicians including Toby Gad were so right on.

Nice reaction! The video that you are watching is from UA-camr James Thiel. The video is from a Livestream and the audio is from the sound board at the event. James was given the source audio by Toby Gad and received permission from him to finally release this video. This is an currently an unreleased song but will be coming out in a few months. Not sure if you heard it, but in the beginning of the song, you hear a young lady cheer and shout, "Let's Go!" That was Angelina's little sister Juliette. Man, this song is killer and Angelina's vocals on this is just crazy! First time I heard this it gave me chills and made me very excited. She ate this song up! FIRE!!! Before anyone tries to make a deal about this, yes, Angelina was wearing shoes at this particular venue. It's more than likely that she had to wear them due to the venue's own rules they enforce and/or safety concerns. This was a small stage with a lot of wires and things on the ground too. As someone who worked in the food service business for many years, there are no rules or regulations in regards to being barefoot. NONE. This is NOT a health department issue. There are no state, or federal laws governing this. After this performance, she and Toby went to The Other Songs Event at the London Palladium, and performed If I Were A Boy and she was bare feet on stage. When she was a Debutante and performer at Le Bal in Paris, France, she had to wear shoes, so she did. When she had her one night only Las Vegas show at the Westgate Resort a few months ago, Angelina was barefoot and she stated to the audience that performing barefoot is a part of her identity now and that would not change. Basically, if she can, she will.

I took it as though she’s telling her Valentine “…this can’t work out. Not now.” Angelina’s amazing storytelling makes it SO relatable to so many people… even if it doesn’t literally translate. This is Angelina’s gift.
This “gift of storytelling” was noticed by legendary artists… multiple Grammy-winning musicians who are many times her age. They were her band for her online Christmas Concert and when the time comes you’ll have to check out this amazing interview with guitarist Rob Christie, saxophonist Jimmy Zavala, bassist Chuck Berghofer, drummer Greg Field and Pianist Shelly Berg. She was in awe of the star power of what essentially was “her” band, and they were enamored with Angelina too (Rob Christie pulled together this top notch band at the last minute before Christmas 2021).

I love that Angelina's unique spin is singing as the antagonist and not the protagonist. Her point of view was "Now I'm The Fool" and now telling the story from the antagonists perspective as "Bad Valentine".
It is an honour that Angelina and Co. are allowing us all to watch this even before it is released. And apart from this amazing song another thing caught my attention: when Angelina talks you would never ever guess she is such an amazing vocalist. When she talks she sounds a bit shy, or maybe humble is a better word. But as soon as she picks up a microphone the singer in her takes over business..... and that's another thing: it is confidence at the highest level. In addition to that: let's not forget at only 18 years of age she has over 10 years of experience. In Angelina's words "singing is like breathing for me". Mind blowing, isn't it? I mean, when a 30 year old is telling he/she has a 10 year career experience that would already be something, but here we have a young adult who has achieved that.

Maybe I will throw out a suggestion, from her Las Vegas shows... I noticed you have seen only PRINCESS OF RUINS - much of that video is composed of the Video I personally recorded from the front row in Vegas; it is on BigAngieFan channel because the two of us shared our videos with each other - in addition to many many others donating their videos - so we could produce some of the best videos of her Vegas performances on UA-cam. Between the two of us, we produced all 20 songs, with each one of the 12 I created taking between 15-30 hours to make - a few took a good deal longer even than that. About the lyrics they are so poetic and sad in fact. I think they are trying to say is that she is a "bad valentine" but because she felt she was getting no emotion, passion from the other person, you know. She tested the person being "mean" and all she got was smile. At one point, she realized the relationship wasn't worthwhile. So she stood him up on Valentine or in other words, forever. That's my interpretation at least.

Great gobsmacked reaction Gina! Know the feeling! Agree this has all the makings of Angelina's breakout hit, if there is any justice in the world. A small number (4) of us guessed ahead of time that AJ might appear at this event and watched the Hotel Cafe Livestream in real time. What an experience seeing her debut performances of both If I Were a Boy AND Bad Valentine. A recording of the Livestream was available for 24 hours after it started and that is how James got the recording you watched. Thanks to James for doing the right thing and not publishing until Toby (and presumably Angelina, since they're co-writers) gave permission to have this unreleased song be published.

The narrative of this song is very much in sync with the stories in her EP Old Enough. Her bad romance threads through almost all the songs in that, and with this one. So cool that they flipped it to the point of view of the bad valentine guy. Some of those excuses for bad behavior resonate with my experience. Maybe we all have to go through one of those! Angelina's vocals in this are so stunning that every time I hear the opening notes, I get chills.

I have listened to this multiple times. I can't help but think of all the covers Angelina has made .. and some of them are rock solid classics. I think .. "We few, we happy few, we band of brothers and sisters" ... are witness to the birth of another classic. Possibly hyperbole ... but .. perhaps not.

Who is the bad Valentine? Every good story is about development of the characters, preferably with a twist or realization on the way. While in the beginning it sounds like Angelina as the protagonist is cold and bad, we find out as we listen that it is not the case. She wants passion, fire and honesty. He is insincere, dispassionate and somewhat self absorbed - sees/hears only what he wants to see and hear, therefore will never really know her. If all passion is lost on his world, who is the bad Valentine?
Angelina is an outstanding storyteller. Don't expect to get the whole story from the first verse. I always await an unfolding tale and allow myself to be taken on her journey.

I tried to listen to top 40 and its a mish mash of sampled back ground fuzz with no definitive melodies or counter motiffs or anything truly supporting the lyrics other than a catchy hook over and over and over. I hope the 30 and under can appreciate the quality and richness of what she creates

I’m not sure of your perspective. Jordan is singing “I thought I told you I’m a messed up girl”. It’s very obvious at the end of the song. Enlarge the video and you can actually read her lips, plus her pronunciation is much clearer the third time as she holds the word “girl”. Not only is Jordan a BAAD VALENTINE, she’s a BAAD GIRL! lol!

However, she is such a blue jay/mocking bird of any style that I'm still not sure that she has yet discovered her own? There was a lot of Amy Winehouse and Dinah Washington in the delivery of that performance. There was someone else in the growl that i can't quite put my finger on?
