Hey thank you! I'm glad it was able to help you out. Everything still works and holds up a year later so I highly recommend the upgrade to anyone thinking about it.
Awesome video. I found a reddit post on this same procedure, but I was still concerned about fitment, and this answered all my other questions on this. (Had a run in with bambi, so time for some unexpected upgrades 😂) Thanks again!
Hey, do you have to replace the grill or can you do it with the 03-05 grill? Because I bought an aftermarket grill for my 2004 and I really don’t want to replace that, but I’m looking at some retrofitted headlights and I like the look of the 06-09.
you dont have to but it will leave a small gap towards the bottom where the headlights meet the grill. not a big deal and plenty of forum pics so you can see if it will be something that bothers you or not
I don't remember exactly but I bought both LED and Halogen of the 1156NA and I think the LED blinked too quickly so I ended up going with the halogen. I didn't wire up any resistors since I was happy with the brightness of the halogen bulbs.
The only thing I did with the latch mechanism was replace the metal rod. I used metal wire to fit between the latch and release, which screwed into the original hood and new grill.
Nice job. Looks great. I'm looking to upgrade the hood on my 2005 because of extreme paint deterioration. I am already planning to change the headlamps/trim, is it necessary to change the bumper or will the '05 bumper mesh?
Thanks, from what I can tell all 4th gen 4Runner hoods are the same and interchangeable. The 06+ grill will not fit the 05 and older bumper without some trimming. I found a forum that had a DIY, I'll send it your way if I can find it again.
Here is the link to the forum I used that tells how to find your paint code. Then I just ordered a spray can off eBay. Good luck! www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/282238-where-do-i-find-my-paint-code.html
An 06+ grill will hit the 04 front bumper and won't close without trimming. You also need those small parts under the headlight if you want everything to line up.
does that hood bug guard still fit? I have a 2006 and wanted to know if all years of the 4th gen have the same hood and mounting points for the bug deflector
@@jattdentistry Nope, just sitting in my garage. To make it fit I'd have to trim anywhere the guard would touch the grill, leaving only a mounting point on the left and right of the hood.
They made a ton of these 4Runners so normally if I need parts I just go to a junk yard or eBay, but yes you should be able to find whatever you need still.
@My.Lame.Perspective I currently have have a hrv which suits my city needs, but not we have more issues in Canada. In the event of Civil unrest, we need a true off road vehicle
You can, the 06+ headlights will leave a little gap between the grill and headlight. Check out this forum for pictures, but it totally works if you're fine with that small gap: www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/203327-how-do-03-06-headlight-swap.html
I don't remember the exact bulb type, but I was NOT able to use my 03 low beam in 06 headlight housing, I had to buy new H11 bulbs. I'm running a HID kit so maybe that's different compared to Halogen/OEM bulbs?
@@My.Lame.Perspective ic, figure that much out. I just bought a led housing for the bulb that r the h11. Hope it will fit so I don’t have to buy a new bulbs
Yes the grill, headlights, and plastic under the headlights would all need to be changed. You can modify the 05 and older bumper to work. Only the hood works for both pre and face lifted 4th gens.

The video that no one asked for but everyone needed that has a 2004-2006 4Runner...I'll be doing this to mine!
Wow this really helped with my 4runner!!
Awesome, glad to help!
I like the newer look. I've been thinking of doing this to my 🏃♀️ 🏃♂️.
I would do it, looks way better and the light output from the projectors is way better than the old headlights.
@@My.Lame.Perspective is possible just to change only the headlights only and the little pieces that go under it?
WOW! I love this and I'll have my 04 upgraded. Thanks man

I just started looking around for new headlights. now I'm looking for a whole new grill
careful, its a slippery slope and before ya know it you're rebuilding the whole front end haha

I might do the headlight and bumper upgrade but I don’t really see the point in upgrading the grille when you can get a custom mesh or TRD grille
I agree, if I did it again I'd get a TRD grill with the orange lights in it.
@@My.Lame.Perspective why not do it now?

Thanks for the vid! Did you use resistors for the blinker or did the "blinker bulb 1156NA" you stated work without flashing very quickly?
I don't remember exactly but I bought both LED and Halogen of the 1156NA and I think the LED blinked too quickly so I ended up going with the halogen. I didn't wire up any resistors since I was happy with the brightness of the halogen bulbs.
Can you show the process on the latch. I think that main difference on the 03 to the 06
The only thing I did with the latch mechanism was replace the metal rod. I used metal wire to fit between the latch and release, which screwed into the original hood and new grill.
If I want to keep my blinker in my off-road bumper could I just solder the daytime/parking light only and it still work?
Yup, should be able to do that and extend the blinker bulb to the off-road bumper and your DRL in your headlight.

Unfortunately it doesn't fit, the way the 06 grill attaches to the hood prevents the 05 bug guard from fitting without modifying it.
