@@shroomingnewman4648 incorrect! Engine braking is not for emergency braking, nor is it effective in stopping fast. Engine braking is best used for preventing your brakes from overheating on a steep hill. The rider in the video looks to have locked up their rear tire and didn't use nearly enough front brake. There was absolutely no progressive brake pressure given, once they slightly squeezed the brake lever they never squeezed harder! That bike could've stopped ages before that gate, rider is the problem!
@@shroomingnewman4648 That's a physics misconception. Engine braking will not help you stop faster during an emergency stop. The rear brake on it's own is well more than enough to lock the rear tire on a modern bike, and having to go down through the gears creates a distraction during a real emergency. Pulling in the clutch when you need to do a panic stop is best practice in my opinion. I think this misconception dates back to the 60s and before when many motorcycles had absolutely dogshit brakes. However, the brakes are not the limiting factor on a modern motorcycle, rather the tires are.

Guy may have scraped a peg, which freaked him out and caused him to apply incorrect inputs. I really don't think it was a throttle or body issue (except with better body he might have avoided scraping peg). Usually scraping a peg scares people who aren't used to it. Also if you're leaning that much any small thing can upset the balance of the bike or lead you to use incorrect inputs. Older tires, grossly inaccurate pressures, bumps in the road with incorrect suspension settings, gripping a little too tightly, a small amount of gravel or slick that might have caused brief traction loss.
