Just did mine last night. Wanted to comment and let you know your content is helping people even 4 years later :). Thanks for taking the time to document and post this.
This is a really great tutorial for changing the MR2 radio. I like that the video also included the trial and error, so the next person attempting this will know what to look out for.
EXCELLENT VIDEO! :) & no worries, I made the same mistake that you did, lol, I completely skipped the part where you made the mistake & when I watched again, I found out that I made the same mistake, lol. Thank you for all your instructional MR2 videos & keep making great videos about your MR2 Spyder, we love them! :)
A british man, just added a radio in to his MR2 Spyder and it fit better, but covered the heat and air vents due to the screen, but maybe the screen moves lower to overcome that. I am looking for a good GPS Radio/DVD one for my MR2 Spyder.
Honestly, that would be an interesting option. I also find that the head unit it a bit too low for comfort. It's difficult to look at it while driving.
I have one more question regarding this informative video. I have just bought a double din stereo for my (same as your) car. At the very end you added the outer bezel. I bought my car that already had a (very bad) aftermarket stereo. I do not have the outer bezel you have. Mine looks like yours did just after fitting, before fitting the outer bezel. Do you know where I can get one/part number? Was the stereo at the beginning on this the original?
The stereo at the beginning I assume is a Japanese aftermarket stereo from the previous owner. I don’t know the oem bracket part number, but it seems like some people used the Metra bracket 99-8300. The one I used, with just the two side bezel brackets that I had to break, is called a Metra 95-8202 Dash Kit.
Just got this from someone else, but you can use this link to find the oem part number for your car! (Sorry I wasn’t sure what year yours is) www.toyotapartsdeal.com/oem-toyota-mr2_spyder-headlight.html
That’s actually a really good question! I did find that to be an issue, cause when it’s very sunny it was hard to see any of the screen. However switching the display brightness setting to auto helped. However, it is still sometimes an issue for me depending on the weather. When the top is on, I don’t really have an issue. Where you sit also affects visibility. I’m quite close up to my wheel but not high up. I find visibility better if I push my seat back (but then I can’t reach the pedals 😅) so maybe if you sit further back it’ll help too.
Quite an informative video. One thing I will say, which I'm in no way trying to be offensive. You make the MR2 look quite roomy, which suggests that you're around 5' tall. I'm 6'3 and have very little legroom in mine.
I’m so glad it was helpful! ☺️ Ahaha yes, I’m actually exactly 5ft tall and probably have way more legroom - one of the few perks of being small 😅 It’s actually surprisingly hard to find a car where I can actually fully drive and reach the clutch
@@thatmr2girlschannel931 oh right, I hadn't thought of that! The Japanese aren't generally tall people, although I'm sure there must be a few tall ones. Hence they tend to design their cars for smaller occupants. So for you with a couple of clicks forward on the seat, you're probably a good fit... Happy driving!
@@julianneale6128 *all the clicks forward on the seat 😅 yeah, it’s actually really hard to find a car that I can drive; test drove a dozen Asian cars and barely found any. Even the new Miata I struggle with. But thank youuu! Happy driving as well! ☺️
I’m sorry you feel that way. I filmed my candid experience of installing this head unit. I could have cut it out and not filmed my mistakes, however I felt that it may help someone else. The frame was very difficult to remove from the jdm headunit and I was under the impression the kit came with a new one, which I mentioned.

Thanks Markus! Definitely hoping someone learns from my mistakes and it saves them some time! ☺️

I’m so glad! And sorry about that ahahaha. Glad it wasn’t just me that made that mistake.
Nice work pointing out the steps to remove the head unit and knowing where all the clips and screws are.
Thanks Alfred! ☺️ Hoping my struggles with all the clips will help someone else 😅
Thank you for posting this video! I'm going to need the tutorial as I'm putting in an apple carplay stereo in my new MR2! Great video
Oh yay! I’m excited for you; Apple CarPlay has made all the difference for me! So glad you found this tutorial helpful! Thank you for watching ☺️
Ya I can definitely see this being a mod I do myself once I get my mr-s.
So I'm all for you making more videos.
Have a few lined up to be edited (once I’m back from my road trip to Banff) so stay tuned! ☺️

Thanks! Lots of plans for the MR-S! 😏

aznstylz right now just car things 🙈 I don’t know if people want to see cheer related things 😅

Oooh that's an interesting take. I would prefer to leave my heat and air vents but having the head unit higher does sound more ideal.
Hope you have a wonderful day

Is the screen visibility good while driving, seeing as its positioned quite low?

How did you fit in front of the seat like that? 😂
I’m 5ft and flexible (competitive cheerleader) 😅😂 but you can achieve the same affect if you don’t need your legs
What brand was the dash kit .
It was a Sony XAV-AV1000 I got from Crutchfield! The link is in the description ☺️
Cool install. Wish RHD was allowed in the Philippines :(
Thank you! Can you not import it to the Philippines?
