In retrospect, the Nutzert tool was probably the easiest way to compress the inserts. I was experimenting with different techniques I'd researched online. They all worked.

Thanks for the video. I have a sprayin bedliner and it worked using your directions, I even used the needle nose vice grips. I did buy a Rivnut tool so that part was very easy. Thanks again.
I really appreciate the feedback. Makes doing the video completely worth it.
I loved my cargo rails on my Frontier. I’m happy I’ll be having them installed on my Ram this week.
Thanks for checking out the video! It’s been a few weeks and I’ve used them a bunch. Very handy.
Great job. I had them factory installed when I bought my new 2022 Ram 1500 custom Rebel. 🇺🇲👍🏼
Thanks for the video brother it was great info and much appreciated. Went ahead and got the rivet tool also!
Thanks for watching. Glad it helped. You get em on ok?
@@venomrebel2020 Starting tomorrow, I'll let you know!
Did it the same way you did and everything came out great, thanks brother!
@@USMCCEB Great video! If we have nutsert tool, do we still need mallet tool to tap the nutsert in or nutsert tool will push it in by itself? Also what is the nutsert tool mandrel size? M6, M8 or M10? Thanks.
I had to dremel the holes a bit to knock down some of the bedliner - the nuts refused to go in even when smacking them with a claw hammer until they had some additional clearance. I also had zero luck attempting the instruction method to flare the nuts using a bolt - the nut just spun (I used a torque wrench and it never got close). I also couldn't get the nut to crush using the nut & bolt & 2 wrench method. Ended up needing to get the tool, and then it went smoothly.
Glad you got them in. In retrospect the nutzert tool is the easiest method, but not everyone loves buying new tools. My rails are still rock solid.
Nice video will get one ☝️ thanks 🙏🏽
Just picked up a new rebel , the rails weren’t installed , had to order nutserts online and thanks to your video I can do it right....Going to watch more of your videos for sure thanks
Thank you. Congratulations on the new truck
what was the part number for the nutzerts?
Do you remember where you got the river inserts? Just pick up rails and bolts but no rivets since they were installed in the old truck
Any info on the nutzerts? I need them for mine as well. thanks!
Nice video guys!
Thanks!
What size nutzerts are those?
What size Nutcerts did you use? Seems like it would be the better way to go instead of using the factory nuts..
I can't recall what size... the factory nutzerts are aluminum and hexagonal so they don't require a compression tool. The one I used from the kit was carbon steel and round therefore requiring the tool.
I have a 2020 Ram Rebel, with a plastic bed liner, so I assume I will have to drill through the bed liner to get to the holes on the bed. Thanks for the video, and your son did a GREAT job too!
Thank you 3000% I had a plastic bed liner in my 2006 Ram. I really liked it. Yeah, for these rails you would need puncture the plastic. If you can definitely find the holes, like by the tie downs you can hold up the rails to reference the others I would think. Let us know how you do and thanks for watching 😎
If you need a measurement to get started let us know
@@venomrebel2020 Thanks
@@venomrebel2020 If you could give me the measurements from the front of the rails to the front of the bed, as well as those from the bottom of the bed to the bottom of the rails. I also have a bed cover., so that is why I would need the measurements "bottom of bed to bottom of bed rails". Thanks in advance, plus sharing this video!
@@1gr8oil I'm not sure how much your plastic bed liner will interfere with these numbers. When I say back I mean the area of the bed closest to the cab. From the bottom of the bed to the center of the bottom bolt on the rails is 14" exactly. From the back of the bed to the center of the bottom bolt on the rails is 6"
The front rail is also 14" up and exactly 1" back from the swell at the front of the bed. Again, when I say front I mean the area of the bed closest to the tailgate. Good luck!
Are the sliding cleats able to come off? May offer an extra inch on each side in case of loading like a ATV.
It would be a lot of work to remove them. There are some caps at either end of the rail, but it looks like you'd have to remove the rails to do this, and I don't believe it's designed with this in mind.
Thanks for the video. Im trying to see if my existing bed cover from my rebel will work on my new trx (when it arrives). Would you be able to tell me what the total distance is between the rails, feom the left side to the right side?
Thanks for watching friend. ✌️ I’m having trouble following the logic of your request. Sorry! Maybe you can explain further.
@@venomrebel2020 my apologies for being unclear or simply not explaining myself good enough. So, before you installed those rails, the width of the bed was some distance. Now you added those rails and the bed of the truck is now slightly more narrow. What is that new distance from side to side, inbetween the newly installed rails. Thanks much.
I'm going to assume I should get the rails installed prior to getting line-X sprayed on?
It will probably be easier
Enjoyed the video, well done. Thanks. What material is the Nutserts, Rivnuts that come with the kit? Aluminum, steel, or stainless? If they are steel, I might want to get some Stainless ones prior to getting the kit. Thanks i advance.
Thanks! The rivnuts that come with the tool are carbon steel. I believe the hexagonal rivnuts that come with the rails are aluminum. I may be wrong. The rails themselves are anodized aluminum.
@@venomrebel2020 Thanks for the reply, Yea, I was referring to the bed rail kit. Sorry, should have specified. They looked like aluminum, and wasn't sure how durable they would be. Might have to get some stainless ones. Thanks Again Mike
@@Mike_Cross Stainless is a good thought for sure 👍
has anyone done a DIY bed rail system using the Unistruts, and only one set of these stock of these sets of holes the nutserts go in ? ??
DeeZee makes a kind of cleat that fits I believe.
So they cover the bed lights if you have them? That sucks. On my ford they had the box link plates you could mount the cargo tie downs...but they weren't adjustable like RAM. That might be a deal breaker...
It’s not too bad. Mine are aftermarket and brighter.
Would you be able to add the swing arm storage box to this also.
That I’m not sure of. I know someone who has those boxes. I will take a look next time I see him.
Will I be able to install a headache backrack with the bedrails?
That’s a great question. Most of the tonneau covers I have researched will fit with the rails. If I were you I’d email the company that makes the rack you’re looking at and see if they can confirm fitment with the rails. Let us know.
Need some replacement nutzerts....is there a particular size I need?
I believe this is correct...
Hole Size: 0.354 inch / 9mm
Thread pitch: M6-1.0mm
If you're asking what Rivnuts to buy, they'll just be called M6 Rivnuts.
@@venomrebel2020 I appreciate you!
What exhaust do you have?
Carven R. Had a shop cut off the factory muffler and weld it on. I show what it looks like in my first video ua-cam.com/video/d9ZEDCJlsGY/v-deo.html
