  • In this video I talk about pass-through (go-through) socket sets and why they're useful. I compare both the Craftsman (No. 29309) and Pittsburgh (No. 62327) sets. I also explain what's included in each of the sets and the pros/cons of both. There's different configurations to get the lowest profile possible with these tools. I go into detail in the video.
Review on the Craftsman set starts at 0:15
Review on the Pittsburgh set starts at 8:10
Socket height size comparison starts at 12:48

Thank you for balanced and insightful comparison. I learned more about pass-thru sets and how they can work with other tools in various applications. Well done!

Just put the ⅜" adapter for regular ⅜" sockets in the large Craftsman ratchet and add as many ⅜" extension (of any length) that you need.

Had my craftsman go thru set for years, and anymore, I bring it to any job I’m working on bc you just never know when you’re gonna need it for those super long fasteners..👍👍👍

Just FYI, with the Gen II ratchet, it goes full length on the ratchet to the end of the handle. Another UA-camr did a review and it withstood 260 ft pounds of torque before it gave out. For $20, or $16 with a 20% off coupon and a lifetime guarantee, it is a great tool kit from Harbor Freight. Also, with the Pittsburgh pass-thru ratchet, oil it before you start using it and keep it oiled. It works much smoother and doesn't flip or get caught up.

I have that same Craftsman set, bought about 7 years ago. Indeed, you can use Husky and GearWrench pass thru sockets on it. I have a few Husky sockets that I use with it, just because I got them on clearance from HD for under a buck each. While I don't use these sockets very often, they always get the job done when I do need them. 👍

I've been racking my head for 2 days now trying to figure this out. I'm looking for an extension for my husky set and HD doesn't sell them, in fact almost no one does. I Did find a gear wrench 6" extension and was researching to see if they were interchangeable with husky's spline drive. It also turns out the the Lowes set is compatible with the HFT set, and they sell individual sockets.

I have the same craftsman ratchet set if you need a replacement good luck their website always shows out of stock and the customer service always says they can’t help you get a replacement, because it’s unavailable.
    I need a new 3/8” one.

Great comparison! Love my Craftsman sets. I have the 85pc. black oxide set & that 51pc. chrome set. Man those passthrough designs have been a lifesaver over the years for certain jobs! I find myself using them over my regular socket sets just because I have them out all the time.
