You have to talk about the average speed, Paris Gare du Nord to Amsterdam Centraal is about 515km apart, takes the Thalys train 3.5hrs to get there, average speed 147km/h, soo that’s also a snail train?
I know and I’ve been on that train, truly amazing, but do you know that’s the only high speed rail line in China that’s profitable? The rest of the lines are highly subsidised by the government, the money made in Lanzhou to Urumqi line in china’s north west cannot even pay for the line’s electric bills. Yeah it’s cool for them just build tens of thousands of kilometres of bullet train lines each year, but as time goes they will become China’s greatest financial burden in the future. China Railway, the state-owned company that runs all trains in China, their debt increased from 1.89 trillion yuan at the end of 2010 to 5.28 trillion yuan (1.3trillion dollars) at the end of September 2018, each year, the number will only get bigger. I’ve travelled on almost all the bullet trains around the world, from the Tgv in Morocco, ice, Eurostar, ave, sapsan, to Fuxing, Shinkansen, you name it, I’ve been on them, yes they’re fast, but they won’t be economically viable for Australia to have them, so for the time being I don’t mind catching the snail train, have a cuppa and enjoy the scenery of this beautiful country along the way.
I've traveled between Cairns and Brisbane on the Spirit of Queensland multiple times over the years. A person can sit back relax and watch a movie, eat, sleep and take a shower if need be. I love train travel.

Super video thanks, made me want to go to Queensland - the only Australian state I haven't been to. It’s really not. We once had a beautiful train that ran this route. Gorgeous sleeper cabins, incredible dining car. They scrapped it for this monstrosity. Economy seats replaced with hard, uncomfortable leather seats that hurt after just a couple of hours of sitting, it’s a disgrace we gave up what we had for this crap. I adore train travel, but when it comes to doing the journey down the Queensland east coast I opt to fly instead.

You missed the USB charging point in the side of the seat. Also, the Premium Economy seat you had is a LOT more comfortable than the Railbeds in 'seat configuration' (the Railbeds aren't great as beds either) The Railbeds have no privacy for you, or security for your belongings, at night unfortunately. They were fully booked on my service qld rail only sells 66% of their seats due to social distancing If you want a Railbed you have to book a month in advance
Maybe one day! I did the spirit of the outback instead in November because the spirit of the outback was having a 50% discount plus their first class cabin is more private than spirit of Queensland’s rail bed But I’ll probably do it one day when I go to far north qld again
Do they do standard economy or premium is the economy option? Also would you say the economy on this is better than the tilt train from ROK to Brisbane? Thanks
It used to be just premium economy and rail bed on the spirit of Queensland, but Queensland rail renamed these “Premium economy” seats to “economy” a few years ago, so it’s now just economy and rail bed. I would say these seats are better than the economy class on the tilt train, as each seat has an entertainment screen, the train has a lounge car, and the buffet has better food options.
Hi this is a review of the premium economy seat, or you can call it a personal experience and a walk through of the train. Information like the cost of the trip, the distance between the stations can be easily found on Queensland rails website. Furthermore I’m not sponsored by Queensland rail therefore I don’t think I should include the price or do a free advertisement in my review.

Very good work mate .what editing software you use for your videos? Cheers 👍🏽.
Wow didn't know a local train could be so nice
2:40 cool PA announcement tone!
Nice video. Does the water fountain to refill water bottles work on this train ? Ie, in covid times.
I don’t really remember sorry 😅 but when I travel again in June/July I can check it out for ya
@@RoryDing Thanks !
Yeah you should give the Railbed a try! Have you got plans to do so?
Maybe one day! I did the spirit of the outback instead in November because the spirit of the outback was having a 50% discount plus their first class cabin is more private than spirit of Queensland’s rail bed
But I’ll probably do it one day when I go to far north qld again
I like you videos excellent
Thank you 😊
Hi Rory, are towels provided for the shower in both railbed and economy seating?
Hi towels are only provided in Railbed 😊
@@RoryDing Thanks Rory - do you think we’ll need a blanket in economy?
If you watch one of this guys videos please subscribe. He’s detail of everything is amazing.
Once Covid is done, I will definitely take a trip on this service.
Yeah you should!
Couple of informations are missing.
1 how much the whole trip cost.
2 distance from townsville to cairns station. When is the best time to visit.
Australia... how clean was the train?
Quite clean
Can you please go from cairns to Brisbane really appreciate 🙏
I was gonna do that but qld rail only sells 25% of their seats so I couldn’t get the ticket
I flew cairns to Brisbane with QantasLink before tho
Ok but if you are please let me know 🙏
Sorry for this reply but can you please go from Cairns to Brisbane on the sprit of Queensland I know it’s to do with Coronavirus but is it possible you could book a ticket please cause I am a big fan of Spirit of Queensland🙏
Well maybe in the future
I’m from Canberra your premier doesn’t even let us in now haha 😂

Another great video, keep em coming!
Is this train still running out of Brisbane?
I believe so! Brisbane to Cairns!
Very surprised to see Australian trains so empty. If you have ever chance try Indian trains not for quality but to see how masses use them as one of major way of transportation
I’ve been to Mumbai, yes I know 😅
Not local travel but long route travel
I’ve travelled on the AC2 too
@@RoryDing great and must say your videos are reAl good , love the simplicity. Keep the great work
How much BUDGET do you have?
I live here in townsville and you should of went to the old station than to the new.. the 2nd track is a siding ..
Hi yes I think I did check out the old station near the river, It’s now a qld rail travel office?
@@RoryDing yeap sure is..
this train is much better than XPT!
But the average speed of the whole journey is slower than the XPT unfortunately
Did you go from Brisbane to Townsville the day before?
Unfortunately I didn’t
I flew Cairns to Townsville with regional express a few days before, I had a video about that too
I’d love to do Cairns Brisbane in business one day tho
@@RoryDing nice!! I'll watch that now
What a lovely train. Very well appointed
The female announcer sounded soooo bored though
Townsville is not Rule and not a small town ..it is Australia’s largest urban centre north of the Sunshine Coast with a population over 185,000 for 2020
I live in Townsville.
Beautiful city! It’s always sunny!! 😎
What’s wrong with first class and second class?
Probably they want to make them sound fancy
just give you some idea this is what the new XPT would look like from 2024
wow i live in cairns and been on the train cairns to brisbane and brisbane to cairns
