    Our last train ride we too had a snorer - VERY LOUD - right behind us and a gentleman that apparently when they say 10:00 is quiet time, didn't understand. Talking on his phone in a loud voice. Finally said Sssshhh and he quieted down. Rest of our trip was in a Roomette. Sorry about your snorer.

    Again thank-you Kuga for sharing your journeys, I remember traveling on a sleeper Brisbane to Cairns years ago with my wife, l have to say ;l prefer the cabins rather than sleeper chairs, especially with a noisy neighbor hehehe..Also a bit shaky at times remember to allways book your seat or sleeper...either in the middle or just off the center of the carriage...never over the wheels or near the door entry over the wheel sets is always noisy and shakes a lot....advice from an old Train Driver....regards Doc from Down Under in Australia

    As a Brisbanite I can say that while we can't compete with Asia or Europe in quality and speed of rail travel in Australia as a whole, the Spirit of Queensland is something we're proud of... until I saw that segment where everything started shaking violently. I'll just settle for not being able to compete with Asia and Europe 😂

    • @catterin7815
      @catterin7815 8 місяців тому

      You should be proud, this is a cool train,. When he was asking why they didn't have trains like that in Japan, I was thinking that I wished they had them here in the U.S. If we had them, I could easily see more people traveling by train.

    • @Brian-vs9sd
      @Brian-vs9sd 6 місяців тому

      Economies of scale. No way we could compete. But when you compare populations to the sheer size of land, we do ok.

  • @sbose64

    australia as a continent is amazing and so is its rail travel. though not yet high speed like euro nations, rail journey is a pleasant experience in its well appointed squeaky clean carriages while vibrant great landscape passes you by outside. very nice video covering the vast state of queensland, connecting its two key cities. every second, is worth your attention.

    Great trip. Wait, the seating remind me about sleeper seat in my country, but yeah this one is bigger and can be transformed into bed very unique (folding the seat). I think the earbuds or headset can be replaced by Noise Cancelling Headphones. And something really appreciated is food is included.

  • @djackmanson
    @djackmanson 10 місяців тому +9

    This looks like the best long distance train in Australia.
    (I'm not counting the Indian Pacific or The Ghan, which only exist as "train cruises".
    For $390 it's competitive in price with the plane from Brisbane, and if you weren't in a rush the 25 hour journey would be fine.
    And rhe seat/bed is definitely comparable to airline business class. Bigger partitions would be nice and they should definitely include earplugs and sleep masks in the amenity kit. But to see a Japanese person envious of Australian rail facilities is very rare!

    • @ColSnders
      @ColSnders 10 місяців тому +1

      I agree, apart from "flying" at ground level, this seat pod configuration reminded me of a typical overnight airline flight in Business Class. Depending on the airline, the meal service was pretty similar too. I'm therefore surprised that some folks thought there should be more privacy? Unless you're used to paying for a 1st Class Emirates Airline ticket, you'll never get to take an in-flight shower and wander down to a 24hr cocktail lounge. Seemed like a pretty nice setup to me.

    • @djackmanson
      @djackmanson 10 місяців тому +3

      @@ColSnders The other recent innovation in train sleeping arrangements seems to be the "capsule" sleeping arrangements in some brand bew European trains, which offer complete privacy but are very cramped. I think I'd prefer this pod.

    So far there are two things I don't like. The open space in front of your legs and the place to put your phone. Both are open to the aisle and doesn't give much privacy. The seat opening up for the bed was cool.

    I've traveled on this train a few times but never the capsule sleeper...too expensive for a pensioner however the seating in the cheaper carriages are similar to business class...comfortable...reclines...have individual TV in the backrests USB ports etc...fold down table...fold out footrest. Access to showers and toilets...meals are not provided as part of the ticket but can be preordered and/or eaten in the club car...where other food items, snacks and drinks including alcohol can be purchased. The only complaint I have about the seating is that they are uncomfortable when trying to get sleep...but who complains when the pensioner concession allows a trip from Brisbane to Cairns for $45.
    I'd recommend the trip as it offers unparalleled viewing experiences...travel the entire east coast... subtropical to tropical...safe...easy going...economical.

    Oneway economy airfares from Brisbane to Cairns (2.5 hours flight time) when booked at least a week in advance cost between AU$100 and AU $250 depending on the airline. An economy train seat (25 hours) is $220 and a premium railbed is $390.

    I took this train in the opposite direction in 2020 when I snuck off for a holiday between lockdowns! Flew up from Brisbane and trained it back, though in the regular seats as the railbed sold out. I really enjoyed the trip but the seat was very uncomfortable to try to sleep in overnight.Shame you missed Kuranda, it's a really beautiful journey up to the village, definitely a bucket list item! I'll be travelling out to Longreach in about 2 months time- again flying out, and getting a cabin on the Spirit of the Outback back to Brisbane. Really excited about this one!

    Traveled on this train a few years ago. Absolutely loved it. There are 3 seats in each row instead of 4 in other Classes Carriages, the Sleeping pods are very comfortable to sit on and good enough to sleep in. I hope we can have the similar Sleeping pods carriages on the South Coast line to Melbourne too. These Sleeping Pods are well designed and can accommodate more passengers than sleeping Cabins. We did a return trip on the Queensland Coast. ❤

    @18:30 you state that the room smelled "kinda funky" which reminded me of my first crossing of the Nullarbor, Sydney to Perth, and the soap had in it formaldehyde, a smell I never got used to and hated ever since. Hope that is not still the case. Ten years alter I started a 34 year career as a paramedic and each trip to the mortuary reminded me of that train ! Did the same train trip (to Cairns) in 1968 but not in that comfort.

    Thank you for showing my home town through different eyes. It's a bit of a running joke in Rockhampton how the train cuts the city in half!

    I love travelling at ground level, so I might have to consider this vs driving for a Bris to FNQ trip. Great video!

    U were very lucky to get a railbed, booked out continuously. I have just returned to Mackay and the railbeds were completely booked out both ways. The train in fact was completely booked on the return trip.

    the sad looking outlet man is typical british. I agree with you, this is a great way to travel. Just like some seats in Business Class on Airplanes. Super Video, thank you.

    Very interesting. The lst time I trained it to Cairns from Brissy, it was 1997 and the old Sunlander train was running. The trip was 3 days long. I did it three times and swore never again. I did get a sleeper as 2 nights sleeping in an economy seat was just not even in my thought process.
    Its almost worth the trip back up just to experience the train sleeper pods and 25hr trip. Plus Im amazed at how Cairns has grown from the sleepy country town I last saw.

    Listening to someone snoring all night hahahaha.
    Ive done this trip a few times but not in a sleeper.
    1st trip had a guy next to me with a sleep apnoea machine at Caboolture ( the first stop 40 minutes in ) went to the galley and never returned to my seat.
    2nd trip had a multiple snorers, went to the galley and stayed there.
