    Im not gonna lie it would have been the funniest bit ever if at the very end the Grey Fox takes the cowl off and its Amusei. You just dont perceive him as an argonian with the mask on because the Grey Fox isnt argonian

      Yes that is what i mean is that you arent perceived as as argonian. You wear the cowl you are the Grey Fox and you take the form of an Imperial to other people, so it would seem. Take it off and its just "Ohh where did you come from" cause the cowls magic is that strong.

      I feel that the cowl would have to change how people perceive the Grey Fox to that level. If the Grey Fox has existed for over 300 years thats a nice generational list and a line of people. Id bet money if one of them looked like an argonian or a khajiti at any point someone would have noticed and said the Grey Fox is one. If a khajiti were ever publicly known to be the Grey Fox i feel at least some of them would celebrate it in their culture because they arent afraid of being called thieves especially not if they were good at it. If the Grey Fox didnt consistently look like the same person to outside sources then it wouldnt be possible for people to identify him immediately guard or not. Which goes to a deeper dive that Nocturnal is much more powerful than people give her credit because of her two major daedric artifacts one can open any door or boundary real or metaphysical and the other is a mask of true polymporph that needed an Elder Scroll and then some to get off one mans face. How to become a walking scp cognito hazard in two simple steps; Put on mask and walk outside to watch your neighbors cause chaos because they immediately think you are Al Capone in the flesh and not having it.

    Always odd to me that this quest gives you Infamy. Well all the Thieves' Guild do. But you think about what you do there. You kill some evil Daedra Summoners and Necromancers, and a dangerous giant Slaughterfish. No one should (rightly) know you stole anything. Somehow everyone will treat you as though you're as evil for doing this as the blatant family eradication in the Dark Brotherhood. Always just weird.
    You get +2 Infamy for doing this quest.
    Which is actually less than Next of Kin.
    So in the eyes of Oblivion's design butchering an entire family, including an upstanding city guard, is less evil than attacking a few crazed evil mages explicitly up to evil.
    Just kind of funny because heck, you don't even really do anything all that "Bad" during the Thieves' Guild but you'll end up more Evil for eventually helping reunite long lost spouses and breaking curses and such... than you will for being a mass murdering religious cultist devoted to inflicting evil.

    • @ForeverLaxx
      @ForeverLaxx 9 місяців тому +1

      It helps to not think of Infamy as "evil points." You snuck into a tower of a renowned, very skilled Conjurer of the Mage's Guild and stole something from him. On top of that, he's (often) never seen again.
      Sounds pretty intimidating to me, hence the infamy. Considering the "underhanded" tactics that the Assassin's Guild is thought to employ in their contracts, simple murder by their hands likely compares less as NPCs are going to assume the target was simply taken off-guard or otherwise tricked into a situation they couldn't survive rather than succumbing to a skilled opponent.

    • @hitomisalazar4073
      @hitomisalazar4073 9 місяців тому

      @@ForeverLaxx It's harder for me not to think of it as "evil points" per se, mostly because Knights of the Nine. And when you get any Infamy what so ever everyone starts talking about how they used to think you were heroic but now view you as vile scum. As well as getting rejected hardcore by the Divines themselves if you get 2 Infamy points or more.
      As well since the Thieves' Guild stuff is (supposed to be) covert and unknown it's weird that you are personally pegged as responsible for it. Like you break into Arcane University to steal a staff just to punk out Captain Lex. No one is supposed to know you're there at all.
      Which is why it's also harder, even though I know it's supposed to be, to view it as "Reputation" per se. Because acts no one should be aware of still ends up impacting it. Though acts you are witnessed for like getting Bounties does give you Infamy as well.
      It always just comes off weird. Like this Divine Sanction rather than Reputation for me. Or the developers signposting what they think is moral or not (as they do in Fallout 3 with Karma).
      Which is probably just my own hang up, I admit. Just kind of the weird way I suppose I see it working.
      Maybe if they had a more "Faction Reputation" system? Like the whole faction got "Infamy" for your acts as a thief. Very Captain Lex style: "I don't know who did it, but it had to be the Grey Fox and his cronies!"... and then if people witnessed you publicly doing thief guild stuff (Fencing things in broad daylight or talking to messengers loudly saying they have a mission from the Grey Fox for you in the middle of Tiber Septim Plaza as they do). But that's also unreasonable nuance I know for a game that gutted various factions as is to fit on the Xbox Disc.
      Just something a little less "The Gods have seen your actions and judged you for it" behavior wise where everyone just kind of reacts to things they shouldn't have known about. Like the Divines themselves marked you with some evil aura for deeds only they witnessed.
      Also hard not to think of them as "Evil Points" when the only things that seemed to give them to me (in my playthroughs at least) was the Thieves' Guild, Dark Brotherhood, and basically rampant and public murder in the streets getting bounties as I kill guards due to the bad combat AI of allies going "I'm going to jump in front of your sword mid swing!" as they do (happens a lot when hidden Mythic Dawn agents try to jump me and such).
      Not like I was getting Infamy Points for "harmless" stuff outside of the Thieves' Guild like disrespecting one of the poncy nobles in court.

    • @ForeverLaxx
      @ForeverLaxx 9 місяців тому +1

      @@hitomisalazar4073 It's a problem with Elder Scrolls in general. They want the game to react to player actions, even if those actions should be unknown. How does the guard know that the apple in your pocket is the exact apple that disappeared from a shop 8 days ago? Doesn't matter because now it's gone since you got caught trying to take someone's house key.
      How does everyone suspect the guy that died in a dungeon with zero witnesses was done in by the player? Doesn't matter, because Bethesda doesn't think about things like this. Just as an NPC will tell you to go away when you walk up to them just to immediately tell you their name, life story, their schedule by the hour, and a full list of their fears (along with anyone else you ask them about), Bethesda has always had a major problem with immersion-breaking "immersion-boosting" interactions.
      That's why I don't consider infamy to be "evil points" even if Bethesda will flop back and forth on whether they function that way or not.

I recognize that people just dumping a but of Too Much Too Soon information to a stranger is VERY normal. Even if most people don't think it is. I can't even guess how many times in real life I've had that sort of "... I don't want to talk... anyway here's a really personal story" moments.

    The Count of Bravil always made me wish there was a particular mod. Because as I recall one of the rumors you heard was that the Count used to be this big Jousting Champion and kind of wasted his time on Jousting Tournaments and such instead of good governance.
    And I always just wanted a Jousting Mod based on that. I mean they mention it. It'd be neat I think. Another "life sim" kind of thing and maybe something locked behind earning a Knighthood (not like you can't get a few in Oblivion). Understandable that the devs didn't do it... but I always hoped a modder would. Or maybe they had and I just never found it.
