Buddha believed in multiple rebirth .
Both of you are misinformed about Buddha and rebirth. Even today, Buddha is not worshipped as god in the original Buddhism - Theravada Buddhism. It is the major religion in countries like Sri Lanka, Burma, Thailand, Cambodia, etc...
Buddha is worshiped as god in other sects, like Mahayana, Vajrayana Buddhism, etc...which had cropped up later.
Buddha never said that there was no athma. This is far from truth. What exactly he said was that there was no "permanent athma.". He had clarified " one's character was one's athma."
Character would be undergoing continuous changes as per one's thinking and actions. Hence athma could not be static and permanent. Athma would be in " continuous flex and impermanent "
Secondly, Buddha was a strong believer in rebirth. Buddha had strongly proclaimed that rebirth would be a never-ending cycle as per one's Karmic consequences.
Buddha was the first who went deepest into karmic consequences. He had said that there would be continuous births for beings who were attracted and attached to life.
He told his followers that this life was imperfect. Continuous births would be unavoidable if one were attached to this worldly life. One must give up that desire totally and could attain nirvana. Nirvana was a state without suffering and death.
This is the long and short of what Buddha himself had told his disciples and followers, umpteen number of times. This is there only in the " three gems in pali Cannon" of Theravada Buddhism.
Only this reflects the true Buddha's sayings as in Theravada buddhism.. All other buddhism's narratives are a mix of truths and tales.
hats off to you ma'am. you have a really confused history, our religion (Sanatana dharma, Budhisim or any other Abrahamic religion). Pagan worship was common in every part of the world before the birth of Jesus. And Just FYI, if god is only there for our needs, then explain the universe's very existence. scriptures that date back more than 5-6000 years. I respect your ideology, but please don't confuse the audience that only people were allowed to enter the temple due to Periyar or Gandhi. it was the colonialists who changed our behaviour and ideology to rule over us and then we started to fight against each other.
