This is so awesome. I had a stroke in 2011. I've picked up some bad habits and I'm starting over fresh. Understanding why my body is doing what it is, helps tremendously. Thank you so much. So happy I found you.
Love this one! BTW: thanks for all your videos! In the matter of a day went from award winning body builder to a neurologist saying I would never get out of bed again. But now I have a new kind of body building, proving him wrong!
One thing that is helping me transition off the cane is using a tall cane/staff/walking stick (handle is about chest high). It keeps you more upright, aligns your body to a more normal walking position so you can strengthen the muscles and get them to work together. It becomes a tool for small balance adjustments instead of relying on it as a 3rd leg.
You are incredible. After 6 years of suffering i finally found the answers in your videos. After 2 weeks of following the exercises prescribed by you i feel 50 % better. Already leaning to walk normal. I can't thank you enough. Please keep the good work up. You are helping so many people who otherwise would suffer .
Thank you for taking the time to leave this comment. I am so glad that it is helping you and comments like this definitely encourage me to keep making these videos! So, I sincerely thank you.
I recovered on my own using the handrails at the hospital where I was treated & went home by the afternoon. That's how bad I really wanted a Coca-Cola in a vending machine & a cigarette too. If you want something bad enough you will do what it takes to get better all on your own.
I've been in my wheelchair for about 2 years since my stroke but lately I've been walking a little more because of my afo brace but notice my ankle is pretty weak still your videos have showed me what I need to work on to better myself and what muscle to focus on and also giving me more motivation and Hope on walking again thank you so much for doing this it means so much
Three years into my Stroke, I went from using a Platform Walker to A HEMI WALKER which I started in September 19, 2022. Now I can walk further distances each day, transfer to a toilet, and walk up and down therapy steps with help. (Started with Steps on Oct. 11, 2022), Thanks to your videos I HAVE ACCOMPLISHED A LOT since my Stroke of Dec. 2019. Thanks
Tara, having discovered you just a few short weeks ago has been a lifesaver! Forgive me if I gosh. Yyour manner, your intelligence, your way of explaining and demonstrating is beyond! With a product this fabulous there must be a fabulous team. So thank your helpers from me too. The local rehab gym has been closed because of Covid. One reason I miss that place is for the social interaction. First thing I’m going to do if and when we get back there is to tell everyone who might benefit about your channel!
Thank you so much for your videos! They help a lot. Could you please make more of the videos related to why a stroke survivo’s affected leg swings out wide to the side and exercises on how to correct it?
Thank you for the video! I was wondering is this same to practice balance and walk for elderly person who did not have a stroke but is using their cane just for the safety?
Thanks so much for this series, after the stroke last year, your videos have helped immeasurably. God bless you and the work your doing for so many people! May favor be your portion!
I can walk short distances without my cane, it’s the longer distances I’m worried about or when I’m walking in a crowd, like the mall. I don’t want to bump into people
And I get stuck bent at the knee can you help me please it's been eight months since my stroke I had a blood clot in my brain on the right side I have minimal movement on my left arm and cannot straighten my leg out
This a great video to practice. I have gone from a cane to a rollator. Now I am trying to walk again. All this is due to my MS. I have gotten too dependent on physical aids! Determined to walk again unassisted. Thanks for these videos.
Hi Wendy! Thanks for all the thoughtful and kind feedback. I am so glad to hear these videos are helping. I can "feel" your determination and that I am cheering you on....Never give up and keep setting new goals :)
Hi there! First of all thank you for your videos and throughout explanations, the world needs more people and specialists like you! I would like to ask you a question. I've suffered a sever brain injury resulting in a lesion right in the centre of the motor cortex so my legs are the affected limbs, I have a little knee spasticity and foot drop/spasticity on my left leg. I can pretty much do all the movements you talked us through in your videos and I mostly walk wearing an afo brace on my affected ankle. I do find that my legs get really stiff when I sit down or don't move for a bit and don't feel completely safe walking down a hill for example, so sometimes I bring a cane along to support me in those situations. Would you have any suggestions for this?
I use an arm sling to stabilize my left arm from throwing my balance out when I walk. my wife doesn't feel comfortable on me doing that. But I Walk into church without my cane. I haven't gone into a store because my hip right side gives me pain. I'm thinking of going back to rehab.

Hi Mam! I'm a single and a 2x brainstroke survivor last 2 yrs ago..Im still having a hard time to walk without a cane ,my left arm still not moving..I really want to recover completely
I had a lateral plateau tibial fracture that required surgery. I was non weight bearing for 10 weeks and now at 19 weeks I’m using a cane and trying to get off the cane all together. I am still getting pain on the inside of my knee where my plate and screws are. Any recommendations?
Thank you Doc for ur videoes on stroke recovery....I am already walking..... but when I try to walk fast my evolved foot does not move fast and I limp.... please help
Thanks for watching and for the comment! This is a very common problem. This probably means that your leg has not "learned" the movement to the point where it is engrained (hardwired) in your brain. I might recommend spend more time walking in a quiet, familiar environment. You have to do a movement 100s of times (correctly) before it becomes "automatic". Once it becomes "automatic" you will experience more consistency when you start adding addition challenges (ie: walking fast or walking in an unfamiliar environment). I am thinking when you are "walking fast" you are probably trying to get somewhere and that ads a TON of stimulation that can interfere with quality movement. I hope this helps!

I am 61 yr old female and I want to get rid of this cane and walk normal again. My legs are weak and sore. Another great video. This will definitely help me as I already walk around with and without the cane . This will help me do it more comfortable when I’m walking around outside. Thanks for the comment! as much as possible. Remember, your brain and body are in "learning" mode. Think about how much time you spent learning as a child (hrs a day). It requires a very similar strategy after a stroke :)
