My Father fought all of his four years in North Africa WW2 for the British (including mopping up after the war ended), he told me many times that the the German soldier was to be feared above all others. My Father said they were bold, ruthless and above all disciplined. The British, who were used to being Kings of the court in the world were shocked by the 3rd Reich soldier (they would never admit that though), then when the German soldier was led by a great battlefield leader like Rommel. you have an army that can take what it wants and does what it wants.

From my research only partial superiority is tank design, the German tank mark III is the best all round vehicle of the early war period, I think this ends up being surpassed by M4s by 1944. I have little knowledge of their navy but the Royal Navy and the US navy was still an up to date force in critical areas. As for some other points commented here, yes I believe that, if Soviet Union is not invaded, the critical front is an offensive in the Atlantic as well as a major offensive in North Africa was critical for victory for Germany. Based on German and Italian logistics in those regions however we’re unable to support a large amount of troops. As with the British logistics would have been the deciding factor in that campaign. British tactics, although arguably outdated, were capable of stopping German offensives. Both german and British leadership were brave professional offices who knew what they were doing and thus I see O’Connor and Brooke on par with Rommel, Halder, and Kesselring. Correct me if I am wrong about that last marshal I cannot recall if he had any command in NA.

You want a certain resource? Fine, bid for it. And meanwhile German industry was being propped up by slave labour which is probably the least efficient way to run anything, especially when they start sabotaging you products.

They didn't come close to taking Moscow. They came close to actually attacking its outskirts.
Have fun trying to encircle it in the middle of a harsh winter, with stream of Soviet units coming in from the outside and close to their own supply hubs. And with Moscow's infrastructure resembling a star, ie. roads, railways spreading out of it, with comparatively little going around it - meaning you are screwed even if you do take some of them undamaged.
Oh, you're not encircling it? Have fun with urban combat in a _bigger Stalingrad._
The way German units got mauled by Soviet winter offensive pushing them back from Moscow, one can only imagine the disaster that would have happened if Red Army stroke even more exhausted and overstretched Wehrmacht.
The absolute cherry on top? Like it's already been mentioned, taking Moscow does not equal victory, so even some lalaland version when Germans manage it does not end anything.

He told me that when the war was over, they made the POWs clean up what was bombed, as well as he and his friends collected spent shell casings and whatever else they could find in the rubble. The kids were always intrigued by the POWs because of how 'evil' they were told they were, but yet they seemed so 'normal'. One of the POWs was a German pilot who spoke very good English, and after asking the kids how old they were, told them that he had a son who was 9 and a daughter who was 11 and couldn't wait to get back home to see them. Not to mention most of the military was still equipped with the same rifles their fathers used in WW1.
Meanwhile compared to the USA, which fielded M1 Garands which had double the fire rate and larger ammunition capacity, a Sherman tank which had the highest survivability ratings in the war and were used to high effectiveness in every theater of war. Developed the first night fighting aircraft carriers and most advanced technology reliability on mass production capacity.

Especially considering technology levels and small amount of good infrastructure (mainly roads etc) in CCCP. Also its not easy to maintain your supply routes while in war that is several thousand kilometers wide when also most of your territory of those routes are heavily affected by partisans.
Also its hard to mass produce your "wunder" weapons, when you are lacking resources, manpower etc (basically the situation during and after 1943 which were the era of those failures). Yet they started to use first jets. I believe that if the war was going better for them during these years, they would actually manage to mass produce some of those weapons (of course, some of them were uselles monstrosities, like their overhyped Maus).
Also do not praise the Sherman tanks. The worst main medium tank on the battlefield during WW2. Lucky to fight mostly with german tanks with low oil and ammo or in cities. The tank battles on the western front were a joke compared to those on the eastern front.

To say "of all time" is blatantly false and a distracting-from-his-point exaggeration he makes. It's an exaggeration, and it is contested. Fails a truth test in at least two ways.
Two seconds of background: The U.S. was still isolationist with an antiquated military still using horses. Stalin had executed millions (20m?) of his people and almost countless in the military. He decapitated his own fighting force. Those are just two factors. The world was also ignoring Hitler's rise and re-militarization of Germany, post reparations, so that amounts to the element of surprise. Compare the armies after both the U.S. and Russia had ramped up war production, and the statement falls away in shreds. No metrics are given. @@WheelsRCool Ok when I state the US Army is similar to the German Army of WW2.
What I am referring to are the two main areas that were copied.
#1 Would be the General Staff structure.
      This encompasses strategic thinking.
#2 For tactics we copies their mission based leadership structures.
This was a very new phenomenon in 1940.
Instead of a strict time line and objectives.
As a leader your are given a mission.
      " Take that bridge."
It is up to you to figure out how you are going to do it. You are expected to use
Your initiative and react to challenges and opportunities that are presented real time.
In 1940 NO ONE was doing that.
Then came the Ghost Division, Rommel and the 7th taking advantage of every opportunity presented. Ended up at the Channel before even his side knew where he was.
The first American General to really incorporate the Mission doctrine was Patton.
And we saw what he could do. Along with driving his superior insane.
Now that doctrine is required of all infantry soldiers.

There was a glass vision slit...yes, glass which when hit tried to blind the driver...which was supposed to be coated in a special oil to stop it freezing up. Even outnumbered and outgunned in 1944, they raked up HUGE casualty numbers on the Allies. Hate Nazism, but total respect for the ongoing tradition of German BADASS warriors.

A little known thing is that the Wehrmacht mainly used horses for transport and combat. Even in 1941. And the tanks they used to defeat Poland and France were mainly Czech tanks that were actually better than the Panzer 1s and 2s. And the reason why people think that Germany had a vast tank force in mainly because much of the footage of the Wehrmacht is from Nazi war propaganda, showing the 'might' of the German military.
