Small Faces were one off the best rock bands of all time, Steve Marriot one of the best front men of all time, Ronnie Lane also had a great voice and wrote many of 'The Faces' songs you'd probably recognize them as Rod Stewart songs.
Thank you from a subscriber. I LOVE Small Faces. This early song was their first #1 hit. Steve Marriott was highly regarded by his peers. Robert Plant (Zeppelin) idolized Small Faces and was highly influenced by Marriott. both Roger Daltry (WHO) and David Bowie have written that Steve was the best soul/rock singer UK ever produced. These 4 teenagers from London's East End were incredibly talented, very creative and quite soulful. After Steve Marriott quit Small Faces on NY eve 1968/69, he formed Humble Pie with Peter Frampton. Rod Stewart & Ron Wood were added to the remaining Small Faces and dropped the "Small" as they weren't anymore. Although I also love Humble Pie and the Faces, IMO, neither band was as great at the mother band - Small Faces. My Favorite Pie songs: I Wonder" (very bluesy) and "I Know You're So Good For Me" (beautiful) also "hot & Nasty is fun and a great showcase for Steve's singing.
@@stephenhough4957 Indeed. Paul is also close to Steve's daughter Mollie Marriott, who (if you don't already know) is a wonderful, soulful singer in her own right.

You have to review him singing Black Coffee with Humble Pie ..... It's on UA-cam... live on the Old Grey Whistle Test.... its one of the greatest live performances I've seen. Steve was and remains the greatest white soul singer to come from our little island
Steve Marriot had a phenomenal voice which got better with age. Humble Pie also included Peter Frampton. Try Black Coffee or 30 Days In The Hole if you want to hear Steve at his best (the live OGWT versions are terrific).

@@diogenesagogo That's cool. I (Chris) heard '30 Days In The Hole' when, in 2001, the guitarist for my band was driving us to band practice. He was a huge fan of Humble Pie. More so of Johnny and Edgar Winter, which he also showed us.
The Small Faces were sensational and massively underrated. you should check out Tin Soldier, the small Faces and P P Arnold. Check the video, she was lets say in the zone.
Apparently Steve Marriot, the front man, was approached as a potential vocalist for Led Zeppelin. However their manager of the time was not about to let his no.1 asset out of a contract that was lining his pocket very nicely at the time.
A great band with an outstanding singer in Steve Marriot. I know you guys avoid video clips for copyright reasons but give Small Faces video clip performing Tin Soldier with P.P Arnold a go. I don't think you'll have any issues. P.S. I'm sure you'll hit your 1000 subs soon , a few more video clips would definitely help.

They signed to U.K. decca records they had their first U.K. hit in September 1965 with whatcha gonna do about it which reached no 14 this was the groups first and only U.K. no 1 in late 1966
An interesting fact . When Rolling Stones needed a guitarist, Steve Marriott was mooted for the role, but Ronnie Wood was recruited instead. The reason, Mick Jagger knew Marriott could be a threat due to his singing voice, so he vetoed it. As you alluded to a slightly heavier sound, listen to Wham Bam Thank You Mam. I am not suggesting a review but just a listen when you have time as it was quite heavy for 1969.
When Steve Marriott left the group he had to be replaced by both a vocalist and a guitarist. That's why they needed Rod & Ron. Good pickup on the heavier guitar. Steve went on to form Humble Pie of course, more of a rock band.

Yes that`s true and they took the name Faces because a well known person about town in Britain is called a "Face" and because of their height(as you mentioned) they thought it would be funny to call the band the "Small Faces"
