to be a dollmaker, you have to be a painter, sculptor, 3d artist, seamstress, shoemaker, hair stylist, and so much more. truly a beautiful art form
not necessarily. Hextian on UA-cam doesn’t make his own clothes and doesn’t use a 3D printer, all that you really need is a somewhat descent understanding of how to draw and some paints/pastels and you’re set :)
@@crazystupidbean nonetheless, they outsource sewing job to other people often, so i guess sometimes money compensates lack of skill in some areas. Not to say that they are unskilled, just that there is a reason they hate sewing altogether

That's what I love so much about it! I'm very much a multimedia artist- I just love all the different materials that can be used to make art. It makes it hard to settle on a more singular hobby since I want to do everything, so once I learned about doll customizing it felt like such a great way to use a wide variety of artistic methods. ❤

I totally get why you didn't like your first try on his head but I really liked how round and full cheeked he was with that one. The final product is amazing none the less. I'm very glad to see the inclusion of Jason.
I love him because he captures the look of like an actual child (even though it’s you know a cartoonish style). Too many dolls that are meant to look like young children feel really weird because they are hyper focusing on the cuteness.
Or even hyper focusing on realism 💀 I feel it’s always the eyes and mouth that make kid dolls uncanny
Same! I love how the Greg doll has such a sweet and gentle but also mischievous aura about him, the sort of mischief that is simply enthusiasm and excitement that hasn't been thought through before acting on it because he's a child.
To add on to what T_R_E_E said, I think with the mass produced child dolls anyway the big companies INSIST on adding such strong lip colors that even if they add subtle details to soften them, it often looks like the doll is wearing lipstick and I hate it. I get that makeup enhances everyone and it takes a lot of effort to make that effect appear entirely natural (child actors and ad models for example probably get touched up or air brushed as much as adults and they have to be super subtle about it) but it's jarring when they get it wrong, especially on dolls meant to be children or babies. That's what I've noticed anyway.

As a ventriloquist, I've always been fascinated with how the figures are made. You're very much like one of those artists. ONE person sculpts/carves the figure, paints it, attaches and styles the wig, makes the bodies, and dresses it. You have to be a jack of all trades in a way. Very impressive.
You can save worbla scraps! Keep all the tiny bits in a container and then you can reheat it and use it as moldable plastic clay stuff :D

Over the garden gives me such uneasy vibes. I think it’s the style it’s drawn in, old creepy music paired with fever-dream-like surroundings. Kind of like old Disney princess movies, like Alice in the wonderland.

if you have worbla scrabs you can stack them and heat them up so they stick togerher and make it a big piece again :3 so no need to worry about scrabs that much. Have used this for years in cosplay and it works like a charm

As someone here already said - Worbla trully is a "no-waste" material. Keep all the scraps - even the tiniest ones. You can heat them up and use as a (pretty hot) clay or you can roll it flat with a roller into an actual new Worbla sheet :) I am using Worbla in my doll projects since my very first one (had already a lot of experience with it from cosplay). It is just a great material :) This "Finest" one will last you for long, but I recommend you trying to get the Pearly Art kind (the white one) cause it is the smoothest one. The Black Art one is pretty great too.

He turned out so cute! Btw you can still use worbla scraps, keep any little offcut bits together in some kind of container and then you can just heat them back up and mush them together. They basically become a thermoplastic clay, which can be really useful and means it's a zero waste material. Still expensive but super functional!

You really make the prettiest dolls, especially the faces. But these two are my favorites. They have that sort of vintage look that feels almost as if their faces were made from wood or some sort of ceramic.
