  • One of my favourite coverstitching tricks - I hope you enjoy it :)
    Let me know if you prefer no explanation in the videos, I might do a few of them (though some things need to be explained to be understood)
    I'm using my industrial coverstitch machine Juki MF 7923 in this video but the technique works on any machine - not just a coverstitch.
    Some of the links I use might be affiliate, which means that if you use them to buy the product at NO additional cost for you, I might be paid a small comission. (If I ever earn any money this way I will use it to support WARS - my local animal shelter)

      Thank you 😊 I’ve done a course of industrial sewing (technology, construction, some pattern grading and so on) but I’m not a professional and tbh I’m only interested in machines and techniques, I get bored with drafting and design. I’m learning and I like doing courses, but I’m just a hobbyist 😊

    Very nice sweaters, especially the color 😀. One for your sister? Coverstitching really does make garments look higher quality and lots more expensive. Of course if we add in the cost of the machine and time to fabric and thead they are high end!
    Have a great day, it's early morning for you and almost midnight for me😀
    And I do enjoy and appreciate explanations

    With explanation. I need to thank you for your tutorial on the Juki MCS and specifically regarding how to lock the threads and remove the garment when the stitching is finished. For an entire year I had to use a needle to pull the thread through and manually tie a knot. Oftentimes the line of stitching would pull out as I tried fiddling with it. I had read books on technique and watched videos but the techniques did not work for me. You can imagine the time and frustration having to pull threads through every single time. However , your technique/demonstration worked perfectly from the very first attempt and has worked every time since. Coverstitching is much more enjoyable now thanks to you.

    Your explanations are helpful, but if you're demonstrating the same technique twice in a video, I don't think you need to explain twice. Any "no explanation" videos you choose to do will be enjoyable to watch-love seeing your industrial machines. Great tip, btw. 😊

    Really good tip. I have that machine and found that if I alter the pressure on the top that can make a difference to thicker fabric. But having something like what you have done is great. Nice jumper you made there, I have that very same fabric in teal I will have to make one.

    • @GingerheadCo
      @GingerheadCo  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you 😊 the presser foot pressure helps more with the stitch quality (so if the feeddogs are not moving the fabric well enough it needs to be lower, if the stitches seem too be forming poorly and the needles stitches pop up on top it should be higher- the pressure, not the knob, the knob goes up for lower pressure and down for higher of course 😉) I can also remove the spreader and then have a higher foot lift (8mil) but I wanted it to be difficult for this video 🙂

      @@GingerheadCo Gosh i can't remember when last I was this excited about a new machine. Unfortunateley I couldn't afford a bright shiny new one, but managed to find an older second hand factory machine, our cut, make and trim sector in South Africa has all but collapsed due to these protracted shut downs because of Covid 19 hysteria. I'm expecting some problems with the machine but Yamato has a very good reputation albeit expensive for spares here. Your channel has really given me greater insight into how to tame the beast so to speak. Thanks again for keeping the art of dress making fresh and alive, its so important.

    What modelmof Juki Coverstitch is that you’re using? It looks so not ordinary, and not noisy.. very smooth and flr professional machine ..
    I’m sure pretty expensive and not easy to find online or stores.

    • @GingerheadCo
      @GingerheadCo  3 роки тому

      MF 7932 and mine is with all original parts so you can't buy it online, you'd have to contact an official dealer. It was just over £4,000 but the price depends on what precisely you want with it.

    Could you do a tutorial on tensioning the mf 7923? I just made the purchase but can’t get my top cover nor all three needles to work well.

    • @GingerheadCo
      @GingerheadCo  3 роки тому +2

      Ok, though the factory settings should be perfect, so it might be the threading not the tension. Always operate on the lowest tensions that produce best results (the most common problem is that we - the users- up the tension far too much)

    • @GingerheadCo
      @GingerheadCo  3 роки тому +2

      And the looper is always really loose, the spreader even more so. The spreader will unthread at the end of each sequence if it’s too tight
