      What?? I watch these and ten more things pop in to my head I could have said 🤣 but then people will complain how long they are. Thank you Kathleen! I appreciate hearing that and these are my favorite videos to make. I’m always open to suggestions!

    This is so good. I’ve made lots of undies but still have yet to sew elastic on with my serger. This video gives the instruction I need to try not only serging on picot but cover stitching it as well. Thank you very much! 💗

      Absolutely! I’m going to work on getting my serger width a bit smaller and then shorten the length a bit-but I’ll test the stretch first.

    Hey ! I love your videos!! Where do you buy your picot elastic?

    • @SewSewLive
      @SewSewLive  5 місяців тому

      Thanks! You know I haven’t bought any lately, but I usually check places like Wawak. I’m not very fancy when it comes to sewing these. But there are other places like Stitch Love Studio and Bra Builders and probably Bra Makers Supply who stock it.

    hello! this is the best instructional video by far for attaching elastic. do you mind sharing what thread you use?

    • @SewSewLive
      @SewSewLive  9 місяців тому +1

      I usually just use a standard thread. Often I only have cones because I sew on an industrial so much and those are tex 40. While a standard thread is more the equivalent of something lighter like a tex 27. (This is sort of a confusing answer since thread is measured in a few different ways but tex 27 is like a regular standard weight thread akin to Mara 100. I sound like I know a lot bout thread but honestly thread gets complicated quick! 😂 some weights: higher the number, the fiber the weight-like Mara 100. Others, like tex weight: smaller the number the lighter it gets. bottom Line: I don’t get fancy with thread. Unless I’m topstitching something like jeans, I pretty much stuck to standard weights! (And if you visit a thread company’s website they usually have cool graphics to look at to help figure it out). Sorry the long reply!

      @@SewSewLive thank you for the reply! i thought it might be tex 27. is it 100% polyester? i wanted to try the maxi-lock serger polyester but i’m scared it won’t be stretchy enough/too abrasive

    • @SewSewLive
      @SewSewLive  9 місяців тому

      @hanna3056 You know, I’m not sure. But I think so. I use a lot of maxi lock on my serger too. I have some of the wooly nylon but haven’t spent a lot of time fussing with it. If underwear were the majority of things I sewed, I’d probably experiment more with threads and elastic to find what I like best. But I don’t see them often and I’m happy with those I have. It could be worth experimenting! You won’t regret it. Or just make a batch with what you have and see what you think. I think the elastic is more prominent as far as how they feel. I love how stretchy picot is but some can also be a little scratchy when I first put them on. I have another video about the ‘stretchiest’ way to apply elastic too. I can’t remember if I talk about thread there. But I’ll link it here just in case. Best Way to Sew Elastic for Underwear

      Good luck! Let me know what you discover if you like!

    Fantastic tutorial thank you... for most of my underwear patterns it tells me how much elastic I need to use, how can I get around this without cutting the elastic? Cheers from Australia

    • @SewSewLive
      @SewSewLive  2 роки тому +2

      That is a tough one! If you’re leaving the opening flat (as in it’s not sewn in to a circle like the waist or leg) you can stretch it on as you go. That’s how I like to do it. And you can always measure your elastic piece first. Sew it on to your leg. Measure your elastic again to see how much you used and then you could pre cut next time or at least know how much you use per leg.

      @@SewSewLive thanks for your answer to this ... I’m thinking outside the box... if I measure the elastic and add markings to it,this way I wouldn’t have to cut it... thanks a bunch

    Thanks for video. What thread did you use in the Looper on the coverstitch machine?

    • @SewSewLive
      @SewSewLive  3 роки тому

      Same as the top threads! (No puff or wooly nylon).

    Thanks for the video! Do you know where you bought that fabric?

    • @SewSewLive
      @SewSewLive  2 роки тому

      Which fabric? In the cover photo? Is it the white? If so it’s probably from Bra Makers Supply or Bra Builders. The micro fiber stretch is something I got from one of those two places. It’s excellent fabric but it’s not cheap and the place I found it only sold it by one yard increments-not continuous- if I recall correctly. But I got it at a Bra supply place. Hope that helps.

    What did you use for the waistband? How did you figure out how long to make it?

    • @SewSewLive
      @SewSewLive  2 роки тому

      Your elastic lengths on underwear are a personal choice. I generally use a length that is almost identical to the opening for my waist. And for my leg I think I figured out my length and use it for all leg holes. You can stretch the elastic around your leg to see what feels good. Same for the waist. I like to give myself an extra inch to have something to hold on to if I’m pre-cutting it. I have a couple other underwear sewing videos. I feel like I’ve mentioned the length to cut your elastic in each of them but it could be subtle since: a) I’m not sewing a particular pattern and just giving instructions on how to sew underwear b) it’s different for each size and c) it’s a personal choice. Each elastic also stretches differently so it best to determine what you like for each of your elastics. Good luck! Happy sewing.

    hi what size is your elastic??

    • @SewSewLive
      @SewSewLive  2 роки тому

      I think it’s probably 3/8” or 1/2”. Most picot edge elastic comes about the same width.
