If you wish to use fountain pens on your travels in the future look into a brand called Opus 88. They are japanese eyedropper style pens that have a shutoff stopper so ink from the main chamber cannot burp out when it is closed. Also they have a huge ink capacity so no extra ink supplies are needed when away from home.
I fly every week for work and always have a few fountain pens with me. I rarely every have trouble with ink leaking. The benefit of a fountain pen outweighs other negatives in my opinion. As one post stated, make sure that your converter is full with no air bubble behind the ink. Also, it helps to orient the pens in your bag so that the nib is up. Overhead bins might not allow this orientation, but you can easily control it by stowing it at your feet.
they don't confiscate the fountain pen for having that kind of tip??? I feel like I wouldn't want to bring them carryon at the risk they'd confiscate it
Awesome setup! I’ve imagined a similar setup if I got one of these. I was in the fence about getting one, but this convinced me to get one. This would be perfect for Bible reading notes, interesting day to day stuff, and random thoughts.
For the clamp, there was a company offering something called the 'book anchor' or something like that and they were psychos enough to make you pay over 50 dollars for it. It's literally just a music book clip and those are infinitely cheaper and do the same job as the anchor while also being lower profile for ease of storage.
Best way to travel with a fountain pen is either with no ink at all, or with a totally full converter, with no air in it. Its the air that expands in flight, not the ink.
Hi Dear friend, so happy to see this video of yours, it was so interesting to see your set up and I always love to hear you talk about stationery. My set up is a bit different, I put only one notebook per cover, or two notebooks but never more (because they get so thick and chunky!). I loved how you set up your TN and it is so amazing to see how much you write! That made me so happy. I use Gel Pen from Rico Design for everyday journaling and I also love the Faber Castle pens, if you haven't tried them, give them a try! They have different nibs sizes and I just love how they make my handwriting look so polished and beautiful. The pens you use look amazing, I was blown away by the change in your writing from pen to pen. The uni pen made your handwriting looks so so so beautiful, like a beautiful classic font. Enjoyed this video so much! Enjoy your time in Ireland this summer!
You’re incredibly kind. Thank you for your well wishes and helpful insight. I have never heard of Rico Design or Faber Castle pens. I will have to try them out. And you’re absolutely right. Three notebooks in TN can make it very chunky, but I’ve found success somehow. I am still looking forward to your new videos when you get there again! Hope to speak again soon.
@@alexanderwrites_ Oh that is so sweet of you! I learnt about Faber Castell when I started drawing and quickly started using them for writing as well. Rico Design company is not a specific company for pens but their black gel pen is the perfect DUPE for those who can't order Muji pens (they're basically the same). I miss Traveler's Notebooks so much, hope to go back to writing in my journal real soon. Same with UA-cam. If I come back to making videos, it will be because of the encouragement of amazing friends like you! Hopefully soon. P.S. I wrote you a letter! will send it really soon, I believe next week!
@@alexanderwrites_ Yes, it definitely does. Just store your fountain pens upright and they'll be fine. No piston-type needed, though I have to admit, they are a bit more convenient when flying since you don't have to care.
I travel all over the world with a fountain pen You just need a vacuum or piston fill type However, I have also never had a problem with any TWSBI on a plane
Glad I discovered your channel, great content. I too use TN to keep a reading log and notes. I’m curious…which Matt Haig books have you read, and/or recommend?
Great to pop up on your feed!! Oh goodness. I love the Midnight Library it is a fantastic, fantastic book. I have also read How to Stop Time and the Humans which are both wonderful books. I think everything he writes is amazing. Excited for his newest book to release in September. If you read them, let me know how you feel about them!
Are you referring to the green notebook? That is a pen clip and it is removable. If you’re referring to the Traveler’s Notebook, that is the zipper from the plastic pouch insert.
The round doohickey on the outside of the cover holds the ends of the elastic and the bookmark string. It lies down out of the way if you have the notebook open on a table.

This is incredibly helpful! Thank you so much 😊
You just perfectly described my current mechanical situation with my 2001 Acura MDX and it's faulty coolant system / thermostat problems. :(
Came for the traveler’s notebook setup, left with Bible study podcast recs! Great video. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! 😊

Glad I could help! The traveler’s Notebook is such a great system! I use it quite often!
Love the idea of using a whole insert to study certain books of the Bible!🤍
Right?! Great idea.
agree

That’s crazy! Glad I found a cheaper option. The Traveler’s Company one was 25 bucks and that’s too much for me. I’d just a binder clip instead.
@@alexanderwrites_ It was the "Page Anchor" - I paid about $25 for them and they are perfect in journals and holding books open when reading.

The Sharpie Roller 05 is excellent. Long lasting ink, smooth rolling feel and extra fine line. Give it a try.

I'm a fan of Lochby products. I'm intrigued regarding what's next from them!
Yeah, it will be interesting where the brand goes! Personally, a bag or backpack would be super cool.
If you want to travel with a fountain pen, you just need to keep it store upright with the nib facing upwards.
And this will prevent any leakage of ink? Including the pressure of airplane cabins?

Great setup. Much neater than mine. Mine’s a mess. Great video!
Thank you! 😊
The green Galen leather has great patina now
I love travelers and plotter

Thanks for the information! I will look into this further. I have a TWSBI Go that is great, but I have never explored their other products.

What is the protrusion on the top left corner of the notebook when it is closed? Does in prevent the notebook from laying flat when open?
