I was in the Navy from’86-‘93. In my BMT , I don’t know of anyone who got discharged for mental health reasons. We started with 83 and finished with 71. A few medical, at least 1 was positive for cocaine at arrival piss test , 2 were rolled back during training a couple were sent home for the ‘ convenience of the government ‘ ( unsuitable for the military) but several decided the Navy wasn’t for them and quit. Yes you can just quit in basic training ; it wasn’t a problem back then … in the Navy… at RTC Great Lakes.

Thank you for your service! It seems there may be more mental issues occurring in today's younger population than perhaps back then which is unfortunate. It's really cool hearing about your experience though.
