So, you do not fill the oil filter canister with oil before replacing? Also, I noticed today that the interior of the canister is spring loaded, so it's important to note that there is more resistance to screwing it on once it reaches that point of the threading.
Hello! FYI, we sold the RAV4 recently because it started to burn/use oil at 200,000 miles. This is with 5,000 mile oil change intervals. I couldn't figure out a way to add oil to the canister during an oil change. Easy with a spin-oil filter which I do on the new vehicle. I agree about the spring in the canister, I always felt like I was over-tightening the canister, and would break the plastic. Take care!
