  • Want to save some money and change the oil in your Toyota Rav 4, the 3rd generation Toyota Rav 4, model years 2006 to 2012 is quite easy to do. If the Oil filter housing is stuck you need a good tool with a deep reach. In addition, you need a 14mm wrench, and a 3/8 inch square drive if you want to remove the plug from the oil filter housing. The oil type recommended in the manual is 5W30 and the filter if you want to go aftermarket is a Fram TG9972. If you notice I used a tool that had shallow slots, there is a deeper tool that works better, especially if the housing is tight.

haha I like how you have Bandit call and text you to remind you of things and get screen time. It's funny. This video reminded me I need to change my oil😅

Ya, Bandit is my secret with editing, sometimes I forget to add things so a call from Bandit always helps!!! Thanks for the comment, and hope you are enjoying your weekend :)

The oil filter cap wrench you're using is designed for the smaller oil filter cap that is found on the 1.8 liter Toyota built engines.
It does not fit the oil filter cap on your engine. It's easy to see that the slots on the wrench do not engage with the two tabs on the oil filter cap.
    Did you oil the o-ring?

You have a good eye brother, I should have mentioned that in my video. The tool still works (as long as the housing is not super tight) The links in the description for the tool are for the deeper tool that works on the bigger engines. I just have the one tool and use it for both styles. I have been lucky as they all have come off........ Thanks for the comment, and good eye!!!! You know your stuff !!!!

It amazes me that Toyota has this ancient filter set up.My first car(1963 Impala-283) had this set up.Kinda stupid in today"s world.

Yep, I think its to try to help the environment. Back in 1963 it was because GM was cheap, and then the spin on filter got popular. Now today I think its to save steel, but I could be wrong.

If you are going to do a video, do the whole job with torques; you finally got to relative torques; but you could have been better; give the full deal if you are going to do it

Thanks for your comment, I did say the cap goes to 25nm for the cap at 8:37 , but I know many people don't use a torque wrench, and that's why they are so tight to get off most of the time. I should emphasize that !! I missed saying the torque for the centre part of the cap, and the drain plug. Sorry about that. I do appreciate you comment :)
