I have the 14x5 stage custom steel. I love that snare. Goes to show you don't have to spend big money to have a good sounding snare drum. How ever, I do really like the 14x7 steel and 14x8 birch snares. Would like to get my hands on one of those.
Love those Yamaha's. All sound beautiful. Sound review was fine with ear buds. SPL has a new 468 line 8" birch snare 10 lug that's becoming a contender. Good review!

Nice comparison but it would have been good to see an aluminium snare in the mix like the Recording Custom 14x5.5
The 14X8 Recording Custom is highly recommended. It sounds fantastic live and in the studio. Sits very well in the mix.
