    Soap manufacturers are not complaining, use more please!. Modern powders, and liquids are so more efficient now.

      it's not just the soap though. New York, all of the state, has some fairly hard water. The combo of the 2 is what makes it really bad

    I really feel sorry for so many of these people, especially when the basement has a nice floor like this one. It'll never be the same again. But, well done on clearing the mega soap scum blockage out of that one Donald. And thanks again for the trip around the neighbourhood, nice weather and looks a nice area.

    Looks like Junior is going to have his hands full cleaning up his bachelor pad in Mom's basement. He's going to need more than a vacuum to clean up that mess. He'll have that trap clogged up in no time flat with the amount of soap needed to decontaminate the area. 🤣🤣

    Might be a combination of hard water and too much powdered laundry detergent like: Foca; Ariel; Roma.
    A good habit would be cleaning the house side of the trap every month,

      Sadly no. Once soap scum dries, it must be removed by tool or hand.

    What builds up soapscum to that level where it becomes a mass big enough to block pipes? Is it certain cleaning products used, or what?

      The last person couldn't bring in a big machine due to the lack of clearance and used a flush bag in all of the drains to clear the last clog and most likely just popped a small hole big enough that the water went down for the moment 😳 😕 🤦‍♂️

    4:34 Jump-scare soap scum! But seriously, these videos have shown me repeated cases of soap scum causing an issue, weirdly not one I've personally dealt with. Generally just roots.

    Great unblock Donald. These basement apartments are not ideal to live in when a plumbing blockage occurs. Not good for the laminate floor to get sewer soaked.

      Pretty much boils down to the same thing, but grease has a more orangey color and pungent smell to it, as to soap scum which is more white colored without a scent.

    Does anyone know what's the purpose of that trap, and do you need them? Is this an old technology that was needed at the time? Sinks, tubs, and toilets have their own traps, and here in NJ, we don't have them.

      The trap is Code in NY it prevents gas and bugs/rodents from coming back into the house, although each drain, sink, etc. has their own as well.

      There's several purposes for that bend in that pipe right there. Just go to Google and type in "P trap purposes"...it'll explain everything for you, okay? You're welcome!

    Why would they put PVC on both ends but leave the original trap? Is it code that the trap cannot be pvc?

      A CI no hub house fits better than trying to make one out of PVC fittings and needing short pieces of PVC pipe on the house and street side of the trap.

      @@NYDRAINS For this installation there was not a lot of room for a PVC house trap but it would work in most installations and is a lot cheaper than a no hub CI house trap too.

    That's extremely heavy buildup of soap scum, is this from using powder washing detergent? I would think liquid soaps and detergents wouldn't do this as bad, but I don't know.

    Das ist Fett… Frittenfett und Öle. Die im kalten Wasser erstarren.
    Öle und Fette, die den Aggregatzustand im kalten Wasser von flüssig zu fest wechselnden sich an den Leitungen ablagern.
    Die Hausfrau sollte ihre Essensreste nicht im Abwasser entsorgen. 😮

    Man, first a dramatic episode of DA, then an awesome new video from NYD? This week is awesome.
    It looks like the buildup was caused by slight back pitch where plastic meets cast iron before the trap. Nice work!
