    Just my 2 cents here- Make a raised rack from plastic chicken wire. Lay the rug on it face down. Run warm water into the rug through the backing and let gravity remove most of the dirt and particulates. It will save you alot of money in cleaning product and its easier on the rug. It was always our first step when I did restorations for a company back in my youth.

      Definitely rinse the sand away before you put a machine on it. The sand is abrasive when you scrub, damaging the fibers of the rug.

      My thought was if I were to do this for the rinsing part I think I would lay the rug on a couple of pallets so the dirt would rinse thru and not just keep going from front to back and vice-versa. It's a thought anyway. I'm also curious where all the chemicals go ? Into the environment ? Toxic ?

    I wish I’d known I could’ve cleaned my 15’x15’ handmade rug I bought at a charity auction - after a massive flood in 2016. As it turns out it was cheaper for insurance to pay 3 cents on the dollar for the loss than to have it cleaned/restored. I commend the effort put into cleaning these rugs - definitely a back breaking job day in and day out!

    I don't know where this person is located, but in the Middle East some of these carpets are used by GENERATIONS in marketplace scenarios. As such, they are high traffic and exposed to the elements year-round in addition to seasonal flooding. I can understand the cleaner asking to clean them to show his skills, and I will give him the benefit of the doubt about it being real or fake. I just enjoy the process.

    To the many who can't seem to wrap their heads around how these rugs can get so dirty, it would make more sense if you've ever helped clean up after a flood. You'll see a lot of this sort of damage everywhere. Just take a moment and think about what happens when an area floods. The damage left behind isn't just water. It's mostly filth and mud, and other gross things that many of you may not want to imagine. Valuables get covered and destroyed by mud.

    • @freda2758
      @freda2758 Рік тому +57

      @@randallmeans9797 Try to understand. 1. This is the sort of damage that CAN come from floods. 2. He could also just be demonstrating how well his products and techniques work to clean even the most soiled carpet, like those typically found after a flood. 3. You don't know what is sentimental to someone else. It's very possible that restoring a little carpet may bring a little hope back in someone's life. 4. I highly doubt someone put money into buying equipment and chemicals, and waste hours to clean something, just for UA-cam views.

    How does such a rug get so dirty in the first place? It's like they drug it through a field of cow manure, then pitched it into the the La Brea tar pits. Even the fact that Tom & Jerry became visible again in the first place was impressive enough, but that end result was just sublime.
