Thank you so much for this video. I have a vertical smoker with a similar thermometer on it; and as I was smoking some jerk chicken about a week ago; the weather got ugly on me and I had to hurry and pull my food out of the smoker. Well; a week later; I noticed that my thermometer had all this water and condensation built up inside of it. I came across your video here and followed your instructions and it worked like a charm. Thank you so much!!!
Thank you as only having grill less than 2 months unfortunately it got really wet in pouring rain till I was able to cover it but thermostat was totally steamed up which taking out of the over it was gone. Now just waiting for 30 minute cool to reinstall.
I would think it would work with any as they are all made the same way, although I wonder why the moisture got into it in the first place. They should be air/water tight. Vision was surprised it even happened. Thanks. Good info.
@@PrimogrillOfficial heat expands everything, so why should it be a problem? and can't they not just seal it at high temp so it just cools to a vaccum and expands to orginal shape each time heated?
Thanks for the video. I have a question, my thermometer is the same, but instead of moisture, it has inside a white precipitate inside . Is there anyway of getting that out or do I just need to replace it.
Well, my thermometer is now destroyed. (the face glass shattered). Note that on the pit, the indicator dial that is outside the bbq pit does not get as hot typically as the sensor that is inside the pit. But in your defense, my 30 minute timer was turned off (oops) prematurely (by someone else in the house) so it cooked longer than the 30 mins recommended. But, just the same, an FYI. At least the casserole dish captured most of the glass fragments. Could be that the dial was so air-tight that the steam blew up the gauge.
Well, this was a complete fail on a Tel-tru analog thermometer that I had that got water and moisture inside the dial. Shattered the glass. 350 was obviously too hot for it.
Anyone know how to remove water from a refrigerator/freezer thermometer? Mine is 1/4 filled with water from being in a cooler and once the ice melted the thermometer got submerged in water and is now partially filled with water. If I put it in the oven the glass will likely shatter since it’s not an oven thermometer, it’s a refrigerator/freezer thermometer and thus is not rated for high temperatures. Thank you
+cwescapexlt4x4 The new thermometer model uses a washer and wing nut. The process in the video has not been tested on your model. An alternate method is placing your thermometer in a small sealable bag with uncooked rice to absorb the moisture.
Why doesn't Primo just fix the thermometer so they don't do this ? I have a Primo as well.as a MHP has grill. I have never had this problem on the MHP grill. Primo should do their homework and fix this.
+Gene Myers It is uncommon, but we want to provide a solution in the event that it happens. It may be that your gas grill gets so hot on the dome that it doesn't have a chance to collect moisture.
Look. My has grill.never had this problem. I am one of the lucky ones that own a Primo oval large. The entire top.half of my grill fell off after around three weeks of using. The problem has been rectified, but I am doubting in the reputation and reliability of Primo.grills.
Finally a use for an indoor oven!
Nice video Derald.
+Kenneth Brunsman Hah! Thanks. Actually, you could use the grill indirectly to dry it out, but the oven works fine.
I wanted to thank you, your instructions were easy, clear and you saved me the stress of purchasing a new household meat thermometer :)

This worked like a charm on my Rubbermaid in-oven thermometer that was half full of water. Didn't take but 10 minutes. Thanks!
This is awesome! We love to hear that!
Tip: remove the glass and solve the problem forever. Or you can drill a small hole in it. The glass has no function other than to protect the needle.
i was thinking of drilling a mini hole myself.

What about an outdoor thermometer that isn’t designed to handle temperatures higher than 120°F?
That really worked! Thanks bro!

Thank you. I just did this on the temperature gauge on my Vision Kamado grill. Worked perfectly.
I don't know how this process will work on other thermometers, but we're glad to hear that it worked for you.

Hi Joseph, There is a pinhole in the thermometers to prevent them from exploding under extreme high heat.
Makes sense. Thanks!

Great video, thank you! Can I use this hack to remove moisture from a regular meat thermometer that is not attached to a barbie?
good advice it worked for me...thank youxx
❤️awesome! Happy Grilling!

Worked perfectly thanks
Worked great for me!
It worked exactly as he said. Thanks. Now, manufacturers, please make a thermometer that doesn't admit moisture so easily

Thanks for the helpful tip!

I imagine this should work for any removable grilling thermometer? I will have probably already tried this before someone replies.
Jr Did it work?
Your prediction was correct!

I'm sorry we do not have any information on digital thermometers.
